View Full Version : Smoothies - Ideas
Just a thought - as smoothies are "the" thing to have (and I love them :D ) I thought maybe people could put their recipes/ideas for smoothies in this thread, rather than paying £2 or £3 for a bottled variety.
My fave homemade one at the moment is apple, banana, strawberries, splash of orange juice and ice.
Any more concoctions you can think of ? I'll add more when I think of them (although for a nice milkshake style one, have a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream, bananas (or strawberries etc) and some milk - yummy!)
Me and my mate made one, it was
Starwberry and banana, with a few shots of tropical juice and a couple if apple juice. Vanilla ice cream, milk and crushed ice all added to it aswell.
It was very nice! A bit like a milkshakey one!

i used to have the every morning coz my housemate had this fantastic blender, i miss it!
one GREAT thing for smoothies are those bags of frozen berries you can get at tesco/wherever, they really thicken up the mix and a little goes a long way. plus they're yummy coz you can get more expensive things like cherries cheaper frozen. and you dont have to defrost them, just chuck them in the blender with a banana and a satsuma or something and you have a nice cold smoothie. mangoes are also really good in smoothies too coz they're nice and thick.
my other one was to do ones with milk and a cheap yoghurt in them. my fave was milk, a banana and a walnut yoghurt. and i did make a 'peaches and cream' type one with a yoghurt and an actual peach.
Now that sounds nice LostVoodoo!!
The other thing I heard, was to freeze Bio Yoghurt and to use that with some orange juice and your fruit etc and that makes it really creamy too.
i just made myself one after reading this thread lol i had banana in with a little bit of milk to make it easier to drink and a tiny bit of grated nutmeg in, mixed it all in the blender-tastes bloody gorgeous!
My fav is Monkey business one, very filling : Banana, peanut butter, orange juice, natural yougart and honey.. very very yum!!!
That sounds different!! Nice though - might have to give it a try. I love the way you can make them from all things you already have at home too, rather than having to make a special trip to the shops to go get the stuff.
Does everyone make their own, or buy in a bottle etc.
My new blender is arriving soon, so shall be using that, but have been known to buy fresh off a smoothie stall quite local to us too and theirs were freshly made in front of you and was delish!

Well me and my mum buy ours... We tried Innocent smoothies.. they are alright but we prefer Sainsbury's own brand smoothies.. yummmm... it's like a colourful carton??...
+ Sometimes when I feel bored  I just pop in a banana and a couple of strawberries and semi skimmed milk.. nothing too fancy :p
I preferred the Tescos own ones to the Innocent ones, plus they are loads cheaper!
I find I prefer them drinking through a straw too - very strange lol
I usually get my ones from Zumo juice bar.. really really yum
my mum bought a book with a load of recipes in. I like the one with orang and melon. Theres loads in there though ill have to find it.
Some recipes i've found:
Strawberry, Orange Juice and Kiwi
Orange juice and kiwi fruit are quite sharp, but are also packed with vitamin C, which makes this smoothie ideal for breakfast – and for banishing hangovers. If it tastes too sharp, add a teaspoonful of honey.
Makes 2-3 glasses
250g fresh strawberries, hulled
300ml orange juice
2 kiwi fruit, peeled and core removed
1 tsp honey (optional)
1 halved strawberry and 2 slices peeled kiwi fruit, to decorate
Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
Decorate each glass with half a strawberry and a slice of kiwi fruit, then serve.
Creamy Raspberry, Mint and Yoghurt
Raspberries and mint are a classic combination that work well in a glass, too! Yoghurt adds a smooth creaminess and gives the finished smoothie agorgeous pink colour. If you are watching your weight, use low-fat naturalyoghurt; otherwise increase the creaminess with full-fat or even Greekyoghurt.
Makes 2-3 glasses
250g fresh raspberries
3-4 mint leaves, plus 2 extra for decoration
300ml low-fat natural or Greek yoghurt
Blend the raspberries and mint in a blender until almost smooth.
Add the yoghurt and blend again until smooth.
Decorate with mint leaves, then serve
Strawberry, Blueberry and Raspberry – Very Berry
Blending these fruits results in a fantastic deep red drink that is very lowin calories and full of energising flavours. It is best when strawberriesand raspberries are home-grown, as they have so much more taste and juicethan their imported cousins. It’s also a great way of using up pick-your-ownfruit or a glut from the garden.
Makes 2-3 glasses
125g fresh, ripe strawberries
125g blueberries
125g fresh raspberries
125ml yoghurt (optional)
Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
Serve immediately.
Peach, Nectarine and Apricot
Both the peaches and nectarines must be really ripe or the fruit won’tgenerate enough juice. You can, of course, peel the fruit before blending, but I prefer to leave it in – it adds fibre and pretty flecks of colour tothe smoothie. If you want to, add a few drops of almond extract to this one,as almonds and peaches have a great affinity with each other. You can alsoadd yoghurt to this one, if you wish.
Makes 2 glasses
2 medium, ripe peaches, stone removed and sliced
2 ripe nectarines, stone removed and sliced
4 ripe apricots, stone removed and quartered
125ml yoghurt (optional)
Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
Serve immediately.
Mango, Banana and Orange Juice – The Fibre Provider
This smoothie is filling and fibre-rich, which makes it a good choice for those who are on a diet and need sustenance without calories. The only downside is that you have to drink it more or less straight away, as the bananas and mangoes will give the drink a sludgy grey colour in quite a short time.
Makes 2-3 glasses
1 large mango, peeled, stone removed and sliced
2 bananas, peeled
300ml orange juice
Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
Serve immediately.
Three-melon Smoothie
Use any three melons, such as cantaloupe, Ogen and honeydew, but make sure they are ripe.
Makes 2 glasses
125g ripe cantaloupe melon, peeled, seeds removed and cut into chunks
125g ripe Ogen melon, peeled, seeds removed and cut into chunks
125g ripe honeydew melon, peeled, seeds removed and cut into chunks
Blend all the ingredients until smooth
Serve immediately.
Thanks for those :) ! My friend had those innocent ones, and to be honest i don't think they are that nice. And they are a bit expensive too.
The Innocent ones are really expensive for what they are IMO. I wasn't too keen on the Banana and Strawberry one either till I tried it through a straw - surprising the difference it made - drinking it normally, gross, through a straw yum!! Strange but true!
No it is true. I always love drinking smoothies through a straw. They taste better.
No it is true. I always love drinking smoothies through a straw. They taste better. Phew - even though I knew I thought like that, I was wondering if it was just me and I was weird or not! :rotfl:

:rotfl: Well if your weird then i am too!! I'll drink the smoothies just normally but they do taste alot better through a straw. And i prefer like thinner smoothies. I don't like it when they are really thick with bits in.
Smooth smoothies are definitely best - and ice cold too.
I'm soooo excited about my new blender arriving - I want to get making some more - what a life I lead :rotfl:!!!

Lmao really?! If they taste better through a straw then I'll try and it let you know if I'm in :rotfl: xx lol - you'll be surprised at how true it is Spicy (unless me and Layne are wierdos!! :hmm: :ninja: :rotfl: )
I've read in Bliss that custard, berries and banana's and strawberries are great in a smoothie. I don't like custard but it sounds like a good alternative.

I went to Cardiff last Saturday and had a Terry's Chocolate Orange smoothie, the man got a bar of chocolate orange, split up the pieces, and then he put some stuff in that looked like ice cream (smoothie mixture?) then put it all in a blender. It was absolutely lush!! And i would love to have another one just thinking about it...
