Sergeant June Ackland (TRUDIE GOODWIN) and PC Roger Valentine (JOHN BOWLER) attend a road traffic accident where a young woman, Sara Grange (KELLI HOLLIS) has aimlessly wandered into the road causing a collision. June is quick to take Roger to one side when he takes it upon himself to lecture a sullen Sara about being irresponsible.

Later, June and Roger are both called out to an assault where Sara is again involved. June takes down a statement from Carl Preston (SHAUN STONE), who came to repossess Sara’s car. Carl claims that she went berserk and attacked him and, with witnesses to prove this, June is forced to arrest her. Trainee DC Kezia Walker (CAT SIMMONS) investigates further and accuses Carl of treating Sara unethically. Kezia tells him that she has uncovered a transcript of a conversation which clearly states that although Sara was struggling to make the repayments for the car, he continued to take money out of her account every month.

As soon as Sara is released, June and Roger find themselves yet again confronted with Sara - they are horrified to find a distressed Sara stood on the rooftop of a car park preparing to jump. Inspector Gina Gold (ROBERTA TAYLOR) and June are uneasy as they watch reckless Roger climb out onto the ledge in order to talk her down. Knowing the emotional state he is in, will Roger be tempted to join her in her suicide mission?

Meanwhile, following his attack on Louis Drake (PETER SILVERLEAF), DC Zain Nadir (TJ RAMINI) is stunned to discover that PCs Honey Harman (KIM TIDDY) and Yvonne Hemmingway (MICHELE AUSTIN) have been questioning Kristen (CHRISTINE STEPHEN-DALY) after Drake reported the attack was from one of her ‘heavies’. Zain is horrified when Kristen tells him she has had to hand CCTV tapes over to the police. The undercover cop desperately comes up with a cover story to explain why he was at the club and an alibi for the time of the attack. DI Neil Manson (ANDREW LANCEL) watches the footage and, on seeing Zain in the club, calls him in to find out what has been going on. Zain tries to cover his tracks but when he positively identified by Drake as his attacker, Neil questions whether Zain is in too deep…

Later, at the pub, Kezia and Sergeant Smithy (ALEX WALKINSHAW) flirt over a game of pool while PC Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE) makes his excuses as he is moving his father, Norman (JOHN WOODVINE) in with him. June is delighted when Rod (RICHARD HOPE) announces he has booked a two week holiday in the Seychelles and they are unable to hide their excitement when June admits she is ready to take their relationship a step further…

Thursday 7 September

Detective Sergeants Sam Nixon (LISA MAXWELL) and Stuart Turner (DOUG RAO) take over from PCs Lewis Hardy (AML AMEEN) and Honey Harman (KIM TIDDY) who have attended the stabbing of Jimmy Todd (SHAUN PRENDERGAST). They interview Mel Hickey (CHRIS TUMMINGS) who was at the scene and he tells the officers they are best friends after doing time in Longmarsh prison together. Honey reports that Jimmy’s wallet wasn’t stolen so it can’t have been a robbery. Stuart discovers that Jimmy has just been released from prison after being sent down for sixteen but serving only eight years for armed robbery on a security van in which the guard, Martin Hooper (GARRY ROBSON), was shot. Wheelchair-bound, Martin answers the door to Stuart who questions him about the stabbing. He admits to knowing about Jimmy Todd’s release but denies stabbing him. He explains that after he was shot, his life fell apart. He left his wife and son and turned to drink. However, since joining AA, life is looking good.

Inspector Gina Gold (ROBERTA TAYLOR) admits to Sergeant Smithy (ALEX WALKINSHAW) that she has sneaked a peak at a spreadsheet on Superintendent John Heaton’s (DANIEL FLYNN) desk outlining the fact that younger officers are half the price than older and more experienced ones. Gina says that if John thinks he can get rid of experienced officers like PCs Reg Hollis (JEFF STEWART) and Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE), he can think again. Gina is pleased to see Borough Commander, Adam Okaro (CYRIL NRI), visiting Sun Hill and is happy that he is looking after himself and taking some unpaid leave to spend time in Nigeria.

Later, an angry John calls Gina into his office and shows her a news article stating that the Jasmine Allen estate is one of the top-ten crime hotspots in East London. John demands that she organise some high visible relief officers to patrol the estate. During the patrol, PC Tony Stamp rushes home to his father, Norman, (JOHN WOODVINE) who has called to say his carer has walked out and he is in a lot of pain. Tony is enraged to find that his father is just attention seeking and after shouting at him, his heart breaks when Norman tells him he is just treading water until he dies. On arriving back at the estate, Tony is confronted by Smithy who berates him for leaving his partner, PC Honey Harman (KIM TIDDY), during an investigation. Smithy dismisses Tony and makes him walk back to the station.

During the day, Sam confides in DS Phil Hunter (SCOTT MASLEN) telling him she has done a second pregnancy test as she has been feeling terrible and it has confirmed that she is pregnant. Boyfriend Stuart finally asks her what the problem is as she has been acting strange all day, and on discovering she is expecting, tells her whatever she wants - that he is there for her. Sam is tearful and tells him she’ll decide what to do, alone.

I do hate that new super. Hope Gina and Smithy give him what for. Reg and Tony are excellent characters and officers.

Nice to see some focus on Tony's problems of working a shift as a cop and having to look after his dad also.

Zain is becoming more and more dodgy, I'm really looking forward to more of this Kristen storyline which also involves Paul (aka Gary Webster). A very good storyline.

Looks like things are happening for Smithy and Kezia.:)

More excellent viewing ahead.
