With all of the events of yesterday and the ongoing operation to stop the airplane bombings, will you still fly??

I will - I feel that if I don't, I am letting these people who wish to carry out these disgusting acts, win and I am not prepared to do that.

I am slightly concerned with going to New York in November now, but it isnt going to stop me from going.

I will still fly.. kinda have to. There is no way we can go back to spending days/weeks travelling to a country of our choice. If we did that, then the terroist are winning.

if its gonna happen, its gonna happen, but if we change our lives becuase of these threats then we have let the terrorists win.

that is true.. I don't want to have to live my life in fear.. wonder if the next flight I take might have a terrorist.. suspecting everyone on the plane with me... I can't live like that and I want to be able to travel to where I want

I am meant to to be flying tommrow to spain, (as of writing I still do not know I have checked teletext and the website and no word on if my flights ok) but to answer your question I am still going to fly regardless and if -god forbid- I do get killed in a terror attack at least I wont know about it for long.

I am grateful the MI-5 got to this like they did I mean it could have been my flight that was the plane I cant understand people moaning about this affecting their holidays, I mean it is a major threat it does need to be dealt with and If I cant go to spain tommorow Ill got another time its cool this way I might be able to catch hollyoaks in the city:)

call me a cynic, but does anyone recon thetre wasnt a threat and this has all been done to make our social security/police look good?

Jojo

I think this is all very real - considering the amount of money that would have been lost by the airlines through the cancelled flights etc apart from the way their shares went yesterday on the stock exchange. They wouldn't have done that for no valid reason IMO

mmmmm my first reaction was how convient it took the focus of Lebanon and what is going on there.. if there is news of an attack at home, people will forget what is happening elsewhere.. maybe I am cynical too but it always seems to me if Bush is getting flack then another Bin Laden video suddenly appears

I am cynical, but just dont they would cause this amount of stress, worry, loss of money, traveller problems etc unless they had definite information that this was going to happen.

Its very difficult - what if these people had carried out this act - wouldnt we all be sitting here saying, why didnt our security services pick up on this etc then??

That is true too, I am not saying there wasn't a threat but what I am saying it last night they said it would be carried out soon, it just seem to me that the panic was brought forward to take focus of Lebanon or something else..

Naturally I would want security to be a lot tighter but if they are going to do something, the terrorist will find other ways.. I am not sure if the threats can be stopped.. there is always more fanatics waiting to take the place of those captured.. They are not even sure if it is Al khida (sp?) it maybe another disgruntal group

I will still fly!

Although I think its more a querstion of when rather than if we get a terriorist attack.

From what I saw on the news etc yesterday, a dry run (could they smuggle the liquids necessary on board the planes) was due to be over this weekend with the actual attacks starting a couple of days later.

Terrorists will always find a way of doing what they want to do - unforunately there isnt really anyway of stopping it. Some of them are so fanatical that they will stop at nothing until they have carried out what they are planning. No matter how many people are arrested and taken out of the loop - there are always going to be that same amount over and over, sitting, waiting to take their places.

My hubby and I watched a drama called Sleeper Cell a month or so back and it highlighted this.

Surely the terriost now know that planes are a no go area.. Security is tighter and less people are going to be travelling through fear so they will be picked up eventually.. I know they will find another way to disrupt services like last years attacks in London..

The Bank of England have named 19 out of the 24 suspects arrested whos bank accounts were frozen.

They are all born between 1970 and 1984 with the majority born in the 80's.

So they are in their 20's.. that is pretty young.. how can they give up their lives so easily???

I think its so sad - that at such a young age you are willing to give up your life that easily.

I have never flew on a plane in my life and to be honest i don't really have too so it doesn't really effect me, i usually just go on holidays in this country, make the most of the country that i live in.

Well my best mate is flying tonight.. her family have no plans of cancelling lol. My next door neighbour and my other mate are probably on a plane now.. on their early morning flight..

Personally if I was going today or whatever I would be a bit worried.. Not sure..

i am usually quite sceptical about things but i really do believe it was a very real threat and if they hadnt have acted there may have been thousands dead now.
the problem is this is never going to end now because when one of their plans is thwarted there is always somebody else planning the next one.
its easy to say we should carry on living our lives as normal but this is going to be a continual threat to us and we do need to be aware now as we live our lives that attacks could happen.

I will still fly but maybe not transatlantic which I was going to do this year I know I shouldn't let these people ruin my plans to go to new york but I honestly don't feel safe so I will have to find somewhere else to go away

I would still fly but it doesnt mean i wont be scared and probably sitting through the whole 9hour jounrey thinking something is going to happen. :o We shouldnt me made to fele like this. I would never stop traveling because of this, while you would reduce your chance of being in a terror attack you aint really living a life by avoiding everything around you, thats not living! Its not just planes its trains and even buses as we experienced last year. Nowadays you cant even walk down the street without the risk of beeing mugged or worse. You cant avoid ti and have to (though its hard0 deal with these things and not let these people win.

I think now is the safest time to travel even though whats going on, because the security is at it's highest level and theres no chance of anything happending. I think its good they are doing all of this because it makes people fele safe. Even if somethign did happen whilst i was on a plane at least i know i didnt live my life in fear!

I heard this morning that today was supposed to be a dummy run of the attack and the actual attack would go ahgead on wednesday the 16th of august but the police stepped in the night before last.

Its all ironic the timing too. The night they arrested all them people (wednesday night) i saw on the news that it was the premiere of the first real 9/11 film. not the documentry based united 93. Wonder if had anythign to do with that the reason it was at this time... people were saying how they will never get over that and now its all happening again... or hopefully not!

I think its so sad - that at such a young age you are willing to give up your life that easily. Think its probably due to the promise of 76 virgins waiting for them in paradise some folk would believe anything for the chance of a s*ag

Seriously though I believe its just their sheer religious fanatacism and hatred of Christianity that drives them. If they are so keen on a fundamentalist state ruled under Sharia law then Im sure they could emigrate to Iran

I'm still going to fly. We flew to America 3 weeks after 911, figured, security is going to be so high now. You've just got to take the chance reeally, there are far more risky things to do i guess.

I am not afraid to fly,, and in fact I am looking forward to it, no matter what level the security is,,hubby is not too keen but hey if he wants to spend 4 weeks in the USA hes gonna have to go thru the dog and pony show ..:hmm:

With all of the events of yesterday and the ongoing operation to stop the airplane bombings, will you still fly??

yep i will, have done already, we flew back from america on thursday (the day the attacks were announced), i mean we had to, we had to get back home and that was our flight! luckily my dad had put the news on at 1am in the morning when we got back to the hotel so we knew what was going on otherwise we would have turned up at the airport without knowing what was happening. when i first heard it my first reaction without even thinking was omg i dont wanna go home, but after a few minutes i thought well theyve caught them and the securitys going to be so high atm that ill probably be safer than usual so its probably more likely to happen if we had changed our flight to another time

however, saying that about security, the flight we took from las vegas to LA to get our flight back to heathrow, the security wasnt that great. on the news it had said that you wouldnt be allowed to take hand luggage in england or america, so we packed everything into our suitcases except a small handbag and a book which we were going to ask about when we got to the airport and if we werent allowed to take them on we were just going to quickly shove them in the suitcase. however when we got to the airport we found out we could take almost anything onto the plane, mobiles, laptops, other electronic stuff, basically everything you can normally take except fluids! i was shocked seeing as only a few hours before they had stressed that nothing would be allowed only essentials! apparently it would have been too much of a fuss to ban all hand luggage! plus you could purchase drinks after security and they just said dont take them on the aeroplane but they didnt do any checks to see! i saw a few people put their water bottles in their bag!

plus i asked my mum if a bomb did go off what we would do and she said that youd probably die before you could even take in what was happening, which although still doesnt make me think dying would be ok but i didnt mind as much seeing as i wouldnt know what was happening therefore wouldnt be afraid. also she said, and i agree with her on this, that i shouldnt worry as although id die, itd be worse for my family and friends that we would leave behind cos theyd have to live with us dying like that

if its gonna happen, its gonna happen, but if we change our lives becuase of these threats then we have let the terrorists win.

i agree, we cant stop it happening, i believe that everyone has a time to die, if its not your time then you wont be on an attacked plane, if it is your time then you will be, or if you decided not to get on that then something else will happen to you anyway, well thats my theory anyway so theres no point really worrying too much about things. we cant change our lives just cos of terrorists, thats what they want us to do

I cant understand people moaning about this affecting their holidays, I mean it is a major threat it does need to be dealt with and If I cant go to spain tommorow Ill got another time its cool

i cant believe people are moaning about it either, when i got to the airport on thursday there were poster everywhere saying about no liquids were going to be allowed on the plane and they told you at the checkin desk therefore everyone had the opportunity to put any liquid they had in a suitcase, when we got to security they were telling people that if they still had liquid they had to put it in the bins that theyd put there. so i couldnt believe it when i heard this lady moaning cos she had $700 worth of perfume in her bag! and she kept going on about it, everytime they said you had to throw liquid away she kept going "but ive got $700 worth of perfume in my bag", then the man with her eventually said "you should have put it in the case then darling" (personally id have said stop moaning you stupid old bat you were told!) and she said "well you know what happened last time i put it in the suitcase some of it got lost! i thought what an idiot, you didnt put it in your suitcase cos it might get lost, well know youre going to have to throw it all away, i cant believe she was moaning about it! and i agree with you about your flight, if its cancelled its not the end of the world, you can get another one, its not essential you get on the plane, i dont understand why people are moaning so much about it!

I have only ever flown once, and I really didn't enjoy it, so it's not a huge problem for me- we go on holiday in the car/train/ go on a ferry instead. I would be worried if I was going to be on a plane for more than say 2 hrs, but then again if they blow it up, I'll die so I won't know about it.

well i have infact i flew back from orlando this morning, ive been there a month and had a biut a week to go when this all happened, i think because i was away i didnt think much of it, and at the airport i could still have hand luggage, but of course no liquids and there were still tables out where people had to dump them cos they werent allowed to take them any further.

we met a group of americans who were on a cruise ship near us in #scotland and not one of them had been put off by the events even though they had lost all there luggage and loads of things had gone wrong, but they still came and it definatly was nt for the weather.

When i went on holiday, it was a few days before these threats happened. They didn't check my passport at all, and no one was even looking at the screen as they X-rayed my bag. Coming home, my passport was checked 3 times, 3 people were watching the screen during the x-ray, i went through the normal x-ray machine, then was body seacrhed, and had my bag checked by hand.

It just goes to show how easy it could've been for these terrorits to go through with the plots. Hopefully security will be up-ed to this standard throughout all of the year. It just reassures you when you're fliying that you will be safe, really.

I guess it's good that they have stepped it up, but what gets me... when we ever go out of the UK by whatever means they don;t care but when I was at the airport in france they body searched me, and looked at me and my passport for ages, made me nearly strip (and this was at easter!) but in manchester they just glanced to check it was in date and didn't make me nearly strip despite wearing the same clothes!

I wouldn't fly in the forseeable future. Not that it's likely, but I'd want to leave it a good few years first, seeing as I've never flown before so I don't really miss anything by not wanting to fly.

I don't know if it will help anyone not to be afraid to fly but i found this on the Register web site

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/08/17/flying_toilet_terror_labs/

But if without them blown a plane up, they stil managed to have people running scared and now we can't take fluids on the planes which is much needed on long flights..

We are leaving this coming Thursday... We are both ready to go.. and we are not going to let a bunch of idiots ruin our flight or our trip .. I have never been afraid to fly,, I flew out 2 weeks after 9/11 from the usa to holland ..hubby flew out from chicago to holland on 9/14 .. so if we let those terrorists think we are afraid,, then they have won,,,
I am looking forward getting in a plane again..The liquids will be readily availble on the plane ( we called the airlines ) if we need it since it is an 8 hour non stop flight,, so we are not gonna become dehydrated :D
I hope that every one who has plans to fly soon will go:)

I am going back to Germany soon. my friend who regularly flys to USA said the prices for Aer lingus are gone really expensive but the BA flights are cheaper. People are afraid to get on a UK plane to the states.
