View Full Version : Is ITV in crisis??

ITV1 has slumped to its worst ever monthly audience figures. The channel attracted an audience share of just 16.7% for July. And guess what has contributed to the ratings slide? Love Island.

The second series launch (with the word 'celebrity' quietly and tellingly dropped from the title) featuring Sophie Anderton and Shane Lynch was beaten in the ratings by Channel 4's Big Brother and the BBC's Only Fools On Horses.

Other disappointments include Phillip Schofield's flop show It's Now Or Never (pulled from primetime Saturday night after one episode), Prehistoric Park (which has seen its ratings fall from 3.3 million to 2.5 million by episode two) and ITV1's coverage of the World Cup final (it was beaten five viewers to one by the BBC).

The rot has been a long time coming thanks to some high-profile failures (Celebrity Wrestling anyone? Fat Families?) and ITV chief executive Charles Allen was under pressure to quit, and has now done so.

What do you think - is ITV losing it?

viewing figure will be back up again soon..X factor starting on Saturday.. I think it is just a quiet season in general with people away on holidays and there is nothing good on ITV at the moment

I only watch ITV on Tuesday for bad lads army and I sometimes catch the end of Driving mum and dad mad if the irish channel is not shown Father Ted so I don't watch it at all.. I don't watch C4 either, it got switched to a different frequency and I haven't retune it..

switch the times for Emmerdale and Coronation Street with Emmerdale becoming their top soap - then they will get the ratings.

With the recent spell of good weather I have spent most evenings outside and I have been taping all my favourite progs to watch later so presumably the folk who are connected to the BARB black boxes may be doing the same. After all didnt the good old Beeb blame the hot weather for a fall in its viewers to a certain soap or was that due to leaves on the railway line

I think its losing it a bit, but im sure once Love Island has gone and X Factor is well and truely back rating should go up again!

The only thing i watch on ITV1 is the bill. thats it. I think itv has more channels than it can handle and so just shows rubbish now days. Or repeats which will ring down viewing figures

i dont really watch anything on itv at all, watch bbc and ch4 mostly

and ITV1's coverage of the World Cup final (it was beaten five viewers to one by the BBC).

im not surprised by that, itv commentary is rubbish, and all the adverts they show are annoying!
