I've just found this and to say the least, I'm astonished!!

---------------------------------------------------------

A NEW show in which celebrities "adopt" a child sparked fury last night.

BBC1 chiefs want a gay man, a single mum and a black or Asian star - all household names - to feature in the controversial programme.

One adoption agency furiously snubbed pleas to help with the show, Family Wanted, and blasted: "We were told they would love a celebrity to end up adopting a child.

"We gave them short shrift. It just doesn't seem appropriate for an issue as sensitive as this."

John Beyer, of TV watchdog Media watch, added: "It's a sensitive area to make into entertainment. To bring in stars to jazz it up is wrong."

Next year's series will follow three names as adoption chiefs assess them. The BBC said none would adopt via the show but might later. It added: "We're only using personalities with a genuine commitment to adoption and who intend becoming parents in the long-term."

A spokeswoman claimed having stars would draw more attention to the issue.

The charity Adoption UK said it had held BBC talks but not yet said yes.

Thoughts??

that is scandalous.. a child is not an accessory.. Celebs think they can do anything, have anything they want.. I am glad the agency slammed this, I would have been even more disgusted if it went ahead :angry:

Is it going to be shown next year though?? I haven't managed to find anything that suggests it isn't yet. Its utterly disgusting to have this. Childless couples go through so much heartache going through the process that to have celebrities doing this, in the name of tv viewing is ....... well, I don't think I want to say the word that is currently being thought.

I am shocked they are actually considering this! You cant play with people's lives! They shouldnt be dealing with these issues on a tv show. If they want to adopt then fine let them but you'd get stupid celebs doing it just to get on tv and reboost their fame without really wanting to adopt a child! Like you said there are people out there who have difficulties trying to adopt and just because they are celebs they get the chance without going through the hassels ordinary couples go through! I cant believe it! The lengths people would go to to draw viewers or to have a reclain on fame! What is happening to tv these days! :nono:

this has been in the pipeline for a while i remember reading about it when the it was first thought of.

I dont understand why they have to do this with celebs - it might raised awarness for adoption and fostering but really will the child be happy later on when they find out they only go adopted because of a reality tv show?

Why not do this with some "normal" people
