Billy Murray to Return

Actor Billy Murray is to return to Walford as gangster Johnny Allen for a handful of EastEnders episodes in the autumn - only five months after he left the programme.

Exact details of the storyline are still under wraps, but what is known is that Johnny will not be returning to the Square as such, but will be seen behind bars as he serves a 27-year sentence for murder.

His brief comeback will be part of the exit storyline of his on-screen daughter, Ruby (Louisa Lytton), in which he receives a tip-off about her involvement with a new boyfriend.

Of his return, the 64-year-old actor said: “Viewers are in for a treat. I'm pleased to be back for such an exciting storyline."

An EastEnders spokeswoman told DS: “We are delighted that Billy is returning to the Square and he has an explosive storyline which will air in late autumn.”

Murray left the programme earlier this year following a disagreement over scripting which he claimed had turned his character into a softie.

Nigella Harman sugested on DS that Ruby's new boyfriend could be Al. I just wondered how you know that she asks him out. I read Chelsea asks him out but not Ruby.

Also Al didn't strike me as a permanent character. I don't know if he is, but what with him being Sean's enemy, I thought he would be got rid of pretty quickly by him.

Apologies to Nigella Harman re-read the spoilers and saw that Ruby does ask Al out, it just didn't stick in my mind before. Still I wonder if Sean will be involved with Ruby sometime down the line.

It's great news that Billy Murray will return as Johnny Allen! A shame it's from prison though, he should have stayed in Eastenders! He had the potential to be a brilliant character but EE ruined him which was a shame...i doubt this storyline will be "explosive" as every EE storyline is described as "explosive" :rolleyes:

I think that it could be Al. Nice to see Billy Murray back again, but unfortuantely his character was a victim of this character destruction that Enders is intent on doing. He was brilliant when he first came into Enders.

I am pleased he is coming back for a few episodes, its great to have the types of episodes, because it gets a chance to clear up some lose ends. They should have done a few of these episodes with Chrissie and Sharon, both who are unlikely to return and off course Michelle. I cant believe that these actors are that busy that they cant fit in a few of these episodes every now and then

Billy Murray interviewed in todays Sun stated that he only agreed to return to EE because he was fed up with them pressurising him to come back and h has asked them to kill off his character. Murray also said he didnt blame Wendy Richards for quitting as the scriptwriters wanted to change her character

Most of the violet men in Eastenders over the years have all spoken to Dot, such as Dirty Den and Dennis! Andy trusted Pat (Bit Random I know) but Johnny spoke to Dot because she is old Eastend the same has him and villian or not we all need someone to speak to every now and then

Thank-you Crazygirl for agreeing with me, I am not for one moment saying that wither Jake or Johnny will return, all I was pointing out was that it was left open is such a way that they could return if the Soap wished, the same as Dirty Den, it took well over 15 years to do the same with Den, and throught those 15 years it was always said that his death or fake death could lead to a return and it did !
