DVD Decrypters

Does anyone know anything about DVD Decrypters? What they do? Im currently downloading one as a friend recommended it to me, as I'm trying to get clips from a family party thats on dvd. Apparantly it rips the dvd onto your computer, into files that are readbable on the PC?? Personally I'm baffled.

Any help or info would be greatfully appreciated.

yeah my partner has one i think he uses his low if he wants to copy a dvd and the dvd has a copy right on it
