Having just looked at "Death in the deep freeze: Stranger than Fiction" on Channel 5, it got me wondering what everyone thought about Body Freezing, through Cryonics...

For those who didn't see it, Cryonics is just the method that some companies in America use to freeze peoples bodies after they die, in the hope that in the future, when we have a cure for whatever killed them, they can be resurrected and cured from the disease, leaving them with another lease of life.

So what do you think about this? Is it right to "cheat death" by being preserved?

I agree with it. Although I'm a bit skeptical, I don't think that it works... I'll believe it, if and when I actually see it happen.

I dont agree with it, really. I just think that having this slight hope that your friend or family member *might* come back to life in the future, just stops you getting over their death and moving on. You'll constantly live in the past, and wont move on.

No one knows if they'll even be able to bring these people back to life, so clinging onto this faint hope isn't going to help the surviving family and friends get over them, because they'll never know if they will see them again, or not. In the same way, the people that die and have ther bodies frozen, go with the idea that they're not actually dying. Even though they probably are, as we probably wont even be able to bring them back in the future....

Plus, its all well and good saying that the bodies will be respected and everything now, but what happens in the future? It could be 50, 100, 200 years, or maybe even more. Whose to say that they'll have the same respect in the future?

Yes that's another thing. They're being frozen, in hope of coming back, yet like you said it could be 50, 100, 200 or maybe more years, til it actually works.. if at all. And life changes over the years, who's to say that that person will be able to cope in the new world, and what kind of life will they have, cause everyone they know will more than likely be dead. And what with global warming the way it is at the moment, they may not een be able to live, not adapted.

I realise I just changed my point completely lol! But I do still agree with it.. But I guess I'm bit of both really..

I don't agree with it, because there might never be a cure, but the family members will never get over it. It also seems wrong, because God will have wanted them to die, so trying to defy God isn't good. Also, with the currently changing climate, evolution happens. To me is seems wrong to freeze someone for an unlimited amount of time. I remember hearing about a family who did this, and the container stopped working, so then they were trying to bring her back, believing that she would, but because she was dead they couldn't.

Whatever will happen will happen

this morning were discussing this a while ago and they were saying that you pay a lot of money for it and when you die do they actually freeze your body or is it a con! and also said to this couple who were going to have this done when they die that if they could bring them back alive about 50+ after they have died how strange it would be in a world you dont know anymore and plus they would be still elderly when they were brought back to life

i think its a scarey thought i dont see the point in it! if you were frozen when you were 80 well you would be the same age when you came back alive so i dont understand why people do it

So they put your body in a huge freezer? Mmmmm..... wouldnt be overly keen on the idea myself! lol

I think there is so much more to a person than just their shell, ie your soul, or whatever you want to call it and how can they bring that back?

Also I think that there maybe the possibility of bringing you back to life, in a few years time, but it your brain etc... isnt working (beyond prepare) then you are just going to be a cabbage. Thus I cant see the point of it.

Whatever the case, I dont think you would ever be your true self, so would it be worth it?

But if it brings people comfort about the great unknown, then fair enough! Each to their own! lol

I agree with it, as Im very scared of dying . but I wouldnt see the point of freezing someone who is very old, unless they were doing it for scientific purposes.
