Brian Capron has revealed that the pressure of working on Coronation Street was "terrible".

The actor, who played killer Richard Hillman on the soap, says that he is glad he decided to leave when he did.

"I always knew I would leave," he told The People. "I never wanted to stay in Corrie for too long. It was important to me to try something new."

"When I went in to Corrie it was on a bit of downer then some old writers returned and some new writers were brought in," Brian explained. "They were responsible for this character, Richard Hillman. They spotted something. But I found as the show became more successful the pressure on me increased. You have to keep delivering and you know that if you fail you let everyone down.

"I had sleepless nights and sometimes nightmares. The biggest worry was learning the lines. One week we did a double week to catch up and I was working on 14 different scripts.

"My treat of an evening was a glass of red wine and ten minutes of telly. Most of the time that's what it was like. You can't enjoy it and the pressure is terrible. Absolutely terrible."

* Brian can now be seen in the current series of popular & long-running ITV1 Sunday evening drama "Where The Heart Is". He plays a good guy for once - factory boss Ozias Harding.

I'm not surprised with it being broadcast 5 times a week.

It must be hard though trying to learn 14 different scrips at a time, i find it hard learning one thing.

I am not surprised by what he says to be honest, playing one of the show's most popular characters can really put pressure on you to deliver and not let the viewers down..plus it's on 5 times a week and that would make it harder. He played an excellent character though..he's a good actor, atleast the pressure isn't on him so much on Where The Heart Is.
