View Full Version : Keeping them amused in the 6 weeks holidays
How about some suggestions for keeping the children (or yourselves) amused for this years annual bore fest :D
Having the 3 boys of differing ages (and all of the grockles coming down here at the moment so you can't actually get on the roads  ) It means being cooped up indoors or trying to go somewhere that will avoid all of the traffic.
So how can we all keep the family's amused this year?? (Cos if no one else needs any help with this, I certainly do!! :rotfl: )

Maybe this (http://www.soapboards.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=18218) thread will bring back memories and ideas :D
I'm hoping so Spicy as with all the grockles down here at the moment, I can't venture outside my town in the car as it would take me 1/2 hour to drive a normally 10 min drive at the mo

I will try looking around on the sites too see if they have any nice ideas...
Since the weather looks good..
- Park
- Theme parks
- Swimming :D Nice in this hot weather too
- Picnic
- Making a tent thing out of chairs and blankets :rotfl: I used to love doing that
- Cinema or renting a DVD
- Watching video's of when your children were small kids.. makes me laugh :rotfl:
- Taking them around their family's or friend's house
- Invite mates around and go out after?
- Summer workshops
- BBQ's :p x
*Goes in search for sites now..*
I remember going swimming loads in the summer holidays which is always a popular choice. Also I used to spend like the whole time on the park with a football and jumpers as goal posts. I was quite an easy child to please.

Right found these on the sites and they sound good :p Even too me
- Take your kids around your local area and give them a digital camera or any cheap type ones and take pictures of nice shops and whatever.. Use photos to make a college of their day out :p
- Cooking easy to cook recipes or the ones which you just need to add water or egg to things!! Be creative.. like smiley faces or a pattern on a pizza or biscuit/cake?
- Go to a back/seaside if there's one near you :D Most obvious lol
- Buy them some arts and craft supplies - that'll keep them occupied for a few hours!
- Check out your local library and find out if they have special activies going on; they are usually free.
- Go to the Museum.. Science museums are quite 'entertaining' :p
- Play family board games. One that will get all family members involved. Don't do this all the time because it will get boring all the time..
- Feed the duckies
- If you got Sky.. if you press the red button
- Water guns and bombs :cheer:

dunno if this will help but i found this article (theres a list of things to do at the end):
"33 Things Kids Should Do Before They're 10
Have your children experienced the 33 things they should do before they're 10? Have they cycled through a muddy puddle, made perfume from flower petals, organised a teddy bears' picnic or baked bread, asks Sarah Stone.
The list was compiled last year by the washing powder company Persil to encourage children to experience different types of play without the worry of getting dirty. According to Persil, one third of children avoid certain forms of fun because they are too concerned about getting grubby.
A plug for washing powder it may be, but I do think the list stands on its own merits as an excellent childhood checklist. My eight-year-old daughter and I pinned it up on the fridge and tick off the activities as she does them. She started off on a pretty good footing, having completed 25 of the 33 things listed, and now we've just got three to go: camping out in the garden (yes, but only if I sit up in the kitchen keeping watch all night with an intravenous drip of coffee attached to one hand and a baseball bat to the other); making and flying a kite (well, she's flown plenty of kites, but make one? I'm sure there'll be instructions in my Blue Peter annual circa 1976); and collecting frogspawn (this one might have to be tippexed out when she's not looking. Frogspawn belongs in ponds, not jam jars on windowsills, and then there are our two cats…).
Anyway, why not get your kids to take the challenge this summer and work their way through the list (although making snow angels - No. 16 - will have to wait). Ooh, and take a look at point 32 - you might even get breakfast in bed.
1. Roll on your side down a grassy bank
2. Make a mud pie
3. Make your own modelling dough mixture
4. Collect frogspawn
5. Make perfume from flower petals
6. Grow cress on a windowsill
7. Make a papier mâché mask
8. Build a sandcastle
9. Climb a tree
10. Make a den in the garden
11. Make a painting using your hands and feet
12. Organise your own teddy bears' picnic
13. Have your face painted
14. Play with a friend in the sand
15. Make some bread
16. Make snow angels
17. Create a clay sculpture
18. Take part in a scavenger hunt
19. Camp out in the garden
20. Bake a cake
21. Feed a farm animal
22. Pick some strawberries
23. Play pooh sticks
24. Recognise five different bird species
25. Find some worms
26. Ride a bike through a muddy puddle
27. Make and fly a kite
28. Plant a tree
29. Build a nest out of grass and twigs
30. Find ten different leaves in the park
31. Grow vegetables
32. Make breakfast in bed for your parents
33. Make a mini assault course in your garden/the park
