'Smoke Gets In Your Pies'
Airs Monday, July 24 2006 at 17:35 BST on BBC One

Sky breaks JP’s heart when she tells him their night together was a mistake. When Sky faces up to Dylan he instinctively guesses the truth and orders Sky out of his sight. Seeking an outlet for his anger, Dylan fronts up to JP but sees that his rival is in almost as much pain as he is - Sky alone deserves his wrath. As guilty Sky suffers alone, JP leaves town and Dylan exorcises his grief by angle-grinding Sky’s artwork off his car – the bonds with his first love have been severed forever.

Steph and Max delight in simple, joyful moments spent with Charlie. Steph is nervous about an approaching check-up with her oncologist but Max declares an end to fear and negative thinking – the Hoylands are due for some good news!

Lyn’s success in her job at Lassiter’s gives her new confidence and the chutzpah to stand up to Paul – something he values. Feeling rushed by her mum, Steph signs on the dotted line for her baby-belt deal with Paul. Unbeknownst to “middle-man” Lyn, Steph hasn’t actually read the contract.

The General Store is hit with a surprise “routine” building inspection. Could this development be related to Mishka’s secret scheme for winning back Lou’s business?

Lou discovers Mishka’s secret smoking habit and begs her to quit – he couldn’t bear to lose her. Mishka wants to make Lou happy but it’s clear she’s going to find quitting very difficult indeed.

'Curiosity Killed The Katya'

Taking the first tentative steps in her relationship with her stepmother, Katya admits to Susan the depth of her problems with intimacy. With Susan’s prompting, Katya forces herself to put aside her fears and surrender to intimacy with ‘Cameron’. But when Katya plucks up the courage to suggest they spend the night together, Robert firmly rejects her. On a visit to his comatose brother, the real Cameron, Robert explains that Katya is making him experience unwanted feelings of care and affection – perhaps even ‘love’. It’s an unacceptable distraction from his mission and he decides that Katya must be removed, permanently.

Sky’s confronted when she sees that Dylan has removed her artwork from his car and mortified when he makes it clear it’s symbolic of the way he’s cutting her out of his life. Determined to stay focussed, Dylan starts a new job at the ScarletBar; he’s a success and regains Paul’s respect – not that he needs, or even wants it anymore. Meanwhile, Sky capitulates, theorising that her actions with Dylan are reminiscent of her affair with Lana – she senses a self-destructive pattern forming.

Connor’s appalled when Ned appears to be encouraging Karl’s musical ambitions – he’s glad ‘nice guy Ned’ is back but there are limits. However, Connor’s resistance softens markedly when Karl suggests he join their band, playing the tin whistle. Max despairs as their musical car crash descends on ScarletBar but is given hope when Ned reveals he’s been offered a gig at another venue. Max assumes it’s the last he’ll see of the band, but Ned qualifies – he’s been offered a solo gig and will have to tell Connor and Karl their services aren’t required.

'Quiche And Tell'

After the previous evening’s disaster, Katya isn’t sure she should pursue her relationship with ‘Cameron’. Susan counsels Katya to be gentle and give inexperienced ‘Cam’ time to overcome his fears. Katya agrees and is pleased when Robert entices her with the offer of a romantic picnic the next day. However, Robert’s intention is to kill her in remote bushland. When the moment comes to strike, however, Robert’s resolve leaves him. Then Katya slips and falls down a bank – after a moment’s hesitation Robert finds himself saving her life. He can’t harm the woman he’s growing to love.

Paul receives word that the General Store is rife with serious structural problems and needs to be closed for repairs. Irate at been left a white elephant, Paul hits upon a diabolical plan – sell Lou back the lease to his beloved store and enjoy watching the old coot suffer repairing the joint. But is there more to this scam than meets the eye…?

Lyn’s forced to run errands for Paul and finds herself in the right place at the right time. She overhears a piece of information with serious ramifications for Paul. Is Lyn prepared to use the knowledge to further her own career?

When Ned and Connor discover Karl’s unexpected popularity with the female demographic, they make vile plans to remove him from the band.

'It Started With A Kick'

The secret of Bree’s parentage weighs heavy on Janae and she unconsciously withdraws from her sister as a result. Bree assumes Janae’s jealous of her success and angrily confronts her. Janae snaps and reveals the truth during a bitter exchange. Bree initially thinks she’s joking but her parents’ reaction confirms Janae’s words. Bree retreats inside her shell, struggling to make sense of the earth-shattering information. Her family waits on tenterhooks for Bree to crack. Regretting her outburst, Janae offers support and Bree’s moved by her sister’s unconditional love. For Bree it answers many questions she had about feeling the odd one out in her family. Janelle and Kim’s world is turned upside when Bree’s announces she wants to find her “real” parents.

When Zeke isn’t selected for the local footy team, Susan realises he has no male role models in his life to offer encouragement. She approaches Karl for help. Mindful of Jenny’s past issues with Susan, Karl initially declines. Feeling secure in Karl’s affections, Jenny pushes him to help Zeke, and both Susan and Zeke are grateful when Karl changes his mind. But after having a kick with Zeke, Karl’s dubious he can be much help – Zeke’s the worst footballer he’s ever seen!

Karl begins to realise his current happiness with Jenny is threatened if he can’t find a way to shake the ghost of Izzy.

'Black Eyed Pleased'
Airs Friday, July 28 2006 at 17:35 BST on BBC One

Janelle, Janae and Stingray are threatened by Bree’s desire to meet her birth parents and they all refuse to emotionally support Bree’s quest. When Bree confides to her mother how alone she now feels in the world, Janelle finally relents. Janae tries to deter Bree from her quest by pointing out that Bree could potentially ruin the lives of the other family involved. Janae’s words ringing in her ears, Bree finally puts a stop to the search.

Karl takes Zeke under his wing and, after giving some sage advice about avoiding violence, he accompanies the lad to his footy match. They both return with black eyes, and Karl comes to realise that, as Zeke has been so over-protected in his life, a bit of roughing up might not be such a bad thing. After some prompting from Steph and Max, Karl offers Zeke his friendship.

Upset by the troubles at home, Stingray turns to Rachel for support and the two head off to film Stingray’s new movie. But when he’s pulled over by the police and it soon comes to pass that he snuck a beer at Rachel’s house and now stands to lose his licence. As they discuss the disaster, Stingray goes to kiss Rachel, but they’re interrupted by Janae. Their feelings for each other threaten to step into forbidden territory.

Steph and Max are thrilled when Steph’s prognosis is good. Their happiness is short-lived, when Max realises that the baby utility belt contract Lyn got Steph to sign, is not in their best interests.
