Corrie actor Roy Hudd has been lined up for another stint in the show.

Hudd - who plays undertaker Archie Shuttleworth - will return to the Street later this year for what is believed to be the funeral of yet another character. There are plenty of faces lined up to leave the show over the next couple of months - it could be anybody!

The actor speculated in a newspaper: "I have a feeling that someone will be snuffing it soon. I've just been booked to film half a dozen episodes - something's up!".

A spokeswoman for the show told me: "Roy is returning for a short period but we're not revealing why just yet."

Hudd last appeared on the Street for the funeral of Corrie veteran Mike Baldwin (Johnny Briggs).

I thought Fred and Bev were leaving together, but there could be a twist in the tale.

It could be Fred, and then Bev goes to join Shelley,

I don't know though, maybe they both die.

Noooooooo....... is that true he dies on his wedding day? The poor bloke has been desperate to get married for yonks (how many women did he propose to over the years?!) and when he finally does the deed (get married that is!) he is going to drop down dead!!

Im hoping for a kinder ending to his time on Corrie, that he and Bev will go off in his butchers van into the sunset together! lol

But did John Sullivan not slate the writers in the papers a while back and that is why his character was written out. I'm sure Sharon Marshall said about it all on this morning ages ago!

When is the wedding then? The timing of it could give us some clues as to whose funeral it will be that Archie returns for.

I hope these rumours of Fred dying aren't true! Fred being killed off on his wedding day to Bev would be awful! It would be a fitting ending for the character of Fred if he tied the knot with Bev and they both drove into the sunset together with a happy future ahead of them.

I am not sure when the wedding will be but your right Kim, it may give an indication of when Archie will return again.

Coronation Street has confirmed the off-screen death of a former character in the run-up to Christmas.

In an episode that will be broadcast on Friday, December 14, Audrey Roberts will tell Rita Sullivan that Archie Shuttleworth has died.

'Archie who?', we hear you ask. Well, let us take you on a trip down memory lane street.

Archie was the local undertaker who first appeared on the soap in 2002, hanging around for a year before leaving and popping back briefly in both 2006 and 2010.

He was a mischievous friend of Rita and Audrey, having flirted with both of them and telling them both they should work with dead people. He last appeared at Blanche's funeral.

Audrey is going to have quite the dramatic Christmas this year, as she will receive a large surprise windfall. Unfortunately for her, devious Lewis Archer is still hanging around, and he's got his eyes on that money.

Yes, I am so very sad to hear this. Over the last 25 years, Roy had become a good personal friend of mine. He was patron of the West Cliff Theatre in Clacton, where I am Chairman.

He supported us in all sorts of ways from putting on shows with all proceeds going to the theatre and behind the scenes publicity. Unlike a lot of the stars, he always spent a lot of time talking to our voluntary staff, thanking them personally for all their help and support. A true gentleman as they say. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him.

Such a nice man, such a great star and such a loss. :crying:
