Hello! i am due to go for a mini break to London in 2 weeks time. i think the area im in is covent garden and the hotel is 'Strand Palace'.i am going for about three days!
Does anyone know of any good things to do in this area or where the nearest shopping centre is???????????
Is there anything in London that anyone thinks is worthwhile doing or seeing and should not be missed for a traveller like myself??
Also is there anything i should avoid?? or look out for?
Any help from anyone regarding the particular area or advice on London as a whole will be greatly appreciated as i have never been before.
thankyou.

well why not make a looong day out it and...sightsee as many places as you can
covert garden is lovely just wander round it'll be great....but if you want a trek to the best places you could have a bus tour or a sightseeing boat round the thames
the london eye is something you shouldnt ever miss out on its great I think its time of the year you can visit buckingham place as well
if you got kids the rainforrest cafe is brilliant and still even if you havent its still great
As the others have said, Covent Garden has a great variety of shop, restaurants, bars, pubs, etc, so you'll probably not really want to go anywhere else really. If you want a bit of a change, then my advice would be to get the underground to Marble Arch, and when you get out the station, turn left and walk down from there. It leads through to Bond Street and Oxford Circus as well, and if a shop is worth going to, you'll find it there!
As for tips for around London... Well, if your planning on using any buses or the Underground, then get yourself an Oyster Card, otherwise you'll be ripped off big time. You have to fill in a form, if you get it from the station, but it only takes 2 minutes. An adult return into London for one day costs £6.20 without it. With one, it should only cost about £3 or so. On the buses it means you pay 80p single, instead of £1.20 single. So its much better.
And if you want to use cabs, then take a lot of money. They cost a bomb.
General things... well, if your walksing around Covent Garden at night especially, or around any backstreets, then dont wear any kind of bag that goes on your back. Honestly, you will get pick-pocketed or mugged. And avoid carrying cash as well, if i were you.
If you want something to do, then the London Eye is always a good bet for tourists to London. You can see everything, and it doesn't cost that much- 20 quid max.
And as diamond1 said, the Rainforest Cafe is good for kids- thats sort of near Leister Square. And Planet Hollywood is good for older teenagers, and adults. They can be a bit pricy though, if your going in a big group, so be warned. Although, to be honest, everywhere is expensive, unless you know the area well!!
Hope you have a fab time in London!! :D
Covent garden is good for shopping.but some of the shops can be prices, if you walk down Neals Yard (off covent garden) there is a wonderful lavender shop there that sells homopathic treatments as well as lavender goods, if you go to the top of neals yard that takes you to the top of sharfebury ave and forbidden Planet is in front of you well worth a visit full of movie stuff and other collectables, when you come out of the shop turn right and cross the road and have a walk down sharfsbury ave (its only a ten minute stroll to leicester square and then 5 mins to piccadilly, then when you see eros you will see regents street in front of you,if you walk down regents street you have the famous Hamleys toy store four floors of toys, aslo regents street t then leads to oxford st, all these places are within easy walking, so its quicker in the long run to walk, Also the rain forrest is in sharfesbury Avenue not leicester square, its on the left just before you get to piccadily, just before the rainforrest is Gerrad St which leads you onto china town well worth a look.Bag snatching isnt to bad,as it use to be just be aware and kept your hand on your bag,as they can unzip them and get your purse before you know it.the london bus tour is a good one to do you get your ticket at the little koisk in piccadilly, and you can get on and off them if I were you I wont, I think it is better to stay on and you get a full tour and commantry.have a fab time:thumbsup:

If the weather is good, then a boat trip from Embankment to Greenwich is a must, use the tunnel at Greenwich to go under the Thames and get the docklands Railway back into London. Its a great day out.

Oh yes while you are in London you must catch a show they are brilliant especially, the musicals. I absolutely loved Fame and this is actually at one of the theatres in Convent Garden if I am not mistaken.
