View Full Version : Max and Tanya
So what's everyones first impressions of them? Personally I prefer Tanya, find Max a tad annoying the way he grovelles and does nothing but flirt.
Found an interview with the person who plays Tanya:

Max is great! I think he's a character will a lot of scope. He's a very good actor. Those scenes with him and Bradley were incredible. I like his flirty side as well. The way he reacted when he saw Stacey, it was like shall I say anything or not. And then he just looked her straight in the eye, sly!
Tanya seems good as well, fiery! But they are staying permanently so her ultimatums must not count for much. Max is bound to have more affairs, that's his character isn't it?!

I didn't like Max - no matter what Jim was like in the past, you don't go into your fathers own home and shove him against a wall - when Max was a child, Jim was a lot younger - from the sounds of it, yes Jim wasn't a particularly nice person or parent, but you don't go into his house and treat him that way, especially at his age. I dont like him one bit...
I think it would be cool if Tanya had an affair to get back at Max. I think she would be a good match for Jake.
I think they will fit in in Albert Square. Not to sure at the moment but im sure that they will grow on me.

Jim tried to throw him out the house, he went to grab him, which is when Max told him not to touch him, and pushed Jim against the wall. I don't think he was about to hit him, he was just trying to make it clear that he wasn't going to be pushed around anymore. It probably brought back old memories.
I don't think we know the full story about Max's childhood. It's clear Jim is very old school. And that Max has very different ideas about raising his family. Like he said he never hit Bradley, and I can imagine he's good to his daughters. He just seems like the kind of dad you can have fun with.
I agree that Max shouldn't have been aggressive, and I could see the fear on Jim's face, it wasn't a pretty sight, but then again you can see that Max would have reasons for it.
I'm not sure whether the age of somebody is really an issue. Is it worse hitting a pensioner than a child?! I can imagine Max would have been very scared of Jim, at the age he was.

Jim had every right to throw Max out of his house - its Jims home, not Max's. Max had hold of him round the collars and yes, maybe he was trying to point out that he wasn't about to be pushed around anymore, but he was an uninvited guest who lied his was through the door, was asked to leave and refused.
Working out it, Max left when Bradley was about 5, so I would hope that he hadn't "hit" him in terms of punching etc, but I think you have totally missed my point - grown men of his age do not go round hitting pensioners especially in their own home....I wasn't saying anything about hitting children - I was specifically referring to Max shoving Jim against the door.
Bringing children up back then is far different to what it is now (hands up older members who remember the cane :D ) so what may be seen as harsh punishment these days, was the norm back then.

I don't think Max should have been aggressive to Jim, but I just think there's more too it than meets the eye. Also Max is his son, and he treated him like dirt. Why would you turn your back on him, just because he happened to cheat on his wife?! It doesn't matter if he was in the wrong. You can still keep a relationship with him. I read that he took Rachel's side when the marriage broke down. Understandable, but family is family, blood is thicker than water.

Tina Baker said (apparently) that we were going to see more of a dark side to Jim. Like the way he was when he first arrived.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree in terms of the generation being to blame for hitting children. I come from a long line of generations that haven't used hitting as a punishment, I've been brought up that way. Maybe corporal punishment was more widely used back then, but you don't have to go along with the crowd. People have a mind of their own.

I can see Jim and Dot coming to blows over this. There's bits of them in the webcam. Dot believes in looking after your kids no matter what they've done. She's given Nick chance after chance. And I don't reckon Max is half as bad as him.
Most likely Dot will expect Jim to make an effort with his son.
There is an interview with Jake Wood on the Eastenders website it says that Max blames Jim for the deterioration of his mothers health and that Jim was an abusive father

We know that Jim is a bigot. But having experienced family members cheating on their respective partners and then leaving them and their children behind, causing the children pain - I can fully see where Jim is coming from I'm afraid. You can choose your friends but not your family....
Maybe you were one of the lucky ones, but most people my age and older have been smacked (not hit - there is a difference). It may not be agreed with these days or even back then, but it happened. No one said anything about a crowd, or about people going along with it - fact: the cane was used - that was all i was stating - and I didn't say whether I agreed with it or not either, so please dont shoot me down for stating an opinion.

O.k, sorry if I was a bit harsh. I really don't know what the 'norm' was back then, i'm not from that generation.
Strictly talking about the storyline though, I think Jim should have supported Max, he seems to have tried to make up for it since, with his grandchildren (Sonia and Bradley), he's been really terrific with them. It's a shame that sometimes that's the way it goes (grandchildren reap the benefits).
I hope he puts things right with Max, and that they are able to form some sort of truce, and perhaps build a relationship again.

Jo Joyner who plays Tanya is on a year's contract. Do you reckon Charlie Clements got the same?! I hope he stays in it a long long time. Well forever!

I can't see him going anywhere in a hurry to be honest. Probably on a years contract, but a bet he will be offered a new contract and a load of cash soon to stay in enders for another 2 years or so. They powers that be know how popular characters like Bradley and Stacey are.
However, I hope they dont renew Deanooooooo's contract.

My first impressions of Max and Tanya are great. I like both characters from what i seen of them last week, and i think they will bring a lot of drama to the show. I really like them and i feel that there characters have so much depth that can be explored. There is a lot to come from both characters i think!

I like him. I think he's going to be good. He's already growing on me. He's got charm, sophistication, sexiness, and he's a bit of a bad boy as well. He seems to have it all. It's all good!

I think the pair will be a top addition, and I can see a long future for them in Walford, two very talented actors.
She reminds me a litttle bit like tina who was Jonny Allens mistress. I prefer the woman to Max. I think he will take some getting used to . The little girl looked cute as well.

Anyone else find Jim's behaviour towards his grandchildren horrible tonight. 'Your my grandaughter, they are Max's kids'. What was that?! Bradley is Max's child. What just because Lauren and Abi happen to come from his second marriage, he's supposed to care about them less?!
I sort of understand him not wanting to have Max in his life, because of what's happened in the past (although I still think he should make an effort with his own son), but his grandchildren are a different story. Is it fair that Lauren and Abi should be snubbed like that for what they're parents have done?!

I agree with everything you have said here. Jim was so horrible tonight, i think we are seeing a bit of his nasty side now. He should really make an effort with Lauren and Abi. I felt so sorry for Lauren when she tried to introduce herself to Jim and he totally ignored her, that was really out of order and not in Jim's usual nature.

I don't think Jim was incredibly horrible to be honest. I think it was just sort of his first initial response. I have a feeling he'll warm up to them, Jim loves his grandchildren, and he will with these too I think.

I reckon he will too eventually. But I didn't like the way he sectioned them off initially, like Sonia and Bradley are his 'real' family and Lauren and Abi don't exist in it. And Sonia's attitude annoyed me too. My grandad's lovely, and I will never choose Max, she doesn't even know Max. How can she possibly comment?! Somehow she has a crystal ball into the past?!

I see they are saying Max sells life insurance,do you think its actual life insurance or do you think its the pay up or youll have a nasty accident type of life insurance??I mean, the way Jim makes him out............:hmm:
I think she's a really good mum as well - finally, a new character that doesn't bore all the viewers. Especially loved her scenes with Abi after she had had her accident.

He does seem a bit of a dodgy dude! lol Does it say that he sells Life insurance somewhere?! Mind he seems quite a persuasive chappy, and there must be a lot of money in it! Im obviously in the wrong job! lol
I don't understand why Jim won't have anything to do with Abi or Lauren. They're Max's kids, but so is Bradley, and it isn't their faults that they are products of their dad's second marriage.

I know...I couldn't understand that either. I thought Jim was quite horrible at that time, it wasn't like his normal self. I felt so sorry for Abi or Lauren (forgot which one) tried to introduce themselves to Jim and he just blanked them out....hopefully he will accept them as his grandkids soon.

It was Lauren that he blanked, the brown haired one.
Max is proving to be a very good character at the moment and I am enjoying his storylines. Tanya we haven't really got to know that well yet but again I think that she too will be good.

I really like these two, both have spark, they remind me of Angie and Den to start off with, but without the Pub.
Lets hope that Eastenders dont put the lids on the coffin's for a very long time to come
