I have just read that the governemt want to get rid of Single sex state schools. I have no experience of what they are like but certanly in my area they always get better results and are highly thought of. do you think that if they were to merge would it be a good idea. I think its slightly stupid in my opinio.

Hmm well I guess with single sex schools you don't get as many people fancying the opposite sex and doing stuff with them but then you're only friends with the same sex and it's not really socialising as well and a social life can be quite important, especially in teenage years. Not sure whether they should be kept or not... :hmm:

i go to a mixed school i think hats better ebcause in single schools you dont get to mix with boys or girls (depending on what sex you are) aswell and you dont get to experience boyfriends/girlfriends as easily i just think its a good idea to have mixed then you grow up learning mistakes in life and learning more about boys /or gilrs ,and stuff

I think they are good but I prefer mixed schools. Single sex schools are always achieveing higher grades and do really well. I think they are not good for socialising later in life because both sex's are quite seperate.

I got some mates who go to single sex schools and all claim they got boyfriend's but god knows.. I haven't seen them in 2 years.. (because I moved a few days before primary to find somewhere better :D)

i went to an all girls school, for the first year i was there it had boys in the sixth form, but then it stopped cos of all the "disruptions" having boys there was apparently causing!

my school was partnered with the local all boys school (and also for a few years was partnered with the boys school i go to now as they fell out with the girls school across the road from them so we were lucky and got the choice of 2 lots of boys lol!), anyway going back to being serious, we were partnered with the boys school and so had social events with them like discos and other theme events such as film nights and stuff, this was mainly in the younger years, but it meant that we did get to socialise with boys and even when we got into year 9 and the discos seemed to stop we were all still friends with the majority of the boys in our year and so carried on making new friends through them (if that makes sense)

so i think it was good in a way, cos when we went to school we didnt have to worry us much about what we looked like and could learn better cos we didnt have boys in our lessons which would obviously have distracted the majority of us, but seeing us we socialised with them at weekends and after school, it wasnt like we were only socialising with girls. i know for definite that i would no where near have done as well as i did at school if the boys were there cos i couldnt always be bothered to work anyway and if we had a mixed school, there is no way that id have gone to school each day with the main priority to work

so i think that single sex schools are quite a good idea, especially if you are partnered with a school of the opposite sex like they are in my area, but even if not everyone agrees, surely single sex schools should be kept if they prove to be working and getting better grades in some cases than the mixed schools, and also it gives people the choice whether to go to a mixed or a single sex school

In some ways I think they are better. Generally, more girls than boys want to learn whilst they are in compulsory education. I'm sick with being in classes with boys that don't want to learn, it seems to be them that the teachers cannot control.

Yeah, boys are really, really immature in my lessons... there's only about 3 boys in the year who are actually a bit mature lol! I'd like to go to an all girls school... it'd just be so much simpler lol! :D

Oooo, there's one person in my school that says fish. I thought it was only him, he's completely weird. He's even strutting around the school declaring that his name is Finlay because fish have fins.

I'd prefer to go to an all girls school.

I'd also want to go to a mixed school because it is generally the boys that bully most in my school.

do you know what really bugs me about boys though , most of them go round saying oh ye i have a massive six pack i have a really big..... , but its not as if girls go around saying i have huge tits boasting about it or anything!

lads at school are competitive you have to forget about it large six pack usually means theyre trying to impress someone or whaever.....and the whole growing up thing remember the old saying is 'boys will be boys' it gets worse as you get older it seems when your 18 people your age still havent seemed to grow up

i went to a single sex grammar school and really wanted my daughter to do the same. you automatically do the 11+ in our area and although she was expected to do really well she missed out by 3 points so is now in the mixed high school. she is doing really well academically but although i know girls are far from perfect the boys are terrible, messing, fighting. so i am all for single sex schools!

I'm not sure about that - girls are awful bitchy, keep arguments going for ages - make snide comments etc. I've heard of a number of lads from my eldest's school where the girls have had a problem, so stirred that other girls boyfriends are cheating on them, resulting in those girls attacking them! The main "fun" comes when girlfriend/boyfriend stuff starts - then the lads tend to be out to impress the girls etc, but then the same can be said for lads. I know my parents always said that they would far prefer to have sons, than daughters - especially after the way I was in comparison to my brother through my teenage years :D

although i went to a single sex school and got on ok, i havent voted in the poll, cos unless you have experienced both (which would be unlikely) i dont think you can really say which one is better

where i live there isnt any the ones where people go are in Manchester and it is seenas being superior to those who go to the mixed schools. It also means having to travel alot further. but i feel that dealing with arkward people is all part of growing up, but for others its not therefore abolishing them completly is abit stupid.
