View Full Version : DVD Screenshots
Does anyone know how to do screenshots of stills from dvds? No matter what programme i use the images appear as black boxes, preusmably due to copyright. however i used to use a package called Power DVD that would do it, so i doubt it's illegal. Does anyone know how to screenshot dvd's probably or how to avoid this black box?

Well a way you could probably do it, is to do a print screen, then just crop the pic you want.

thats my method of doing it...but thats when the black box appears
I'm not sure if this would make a difference, but could you obtain rental copies of the DVDs you want screenshots of and then do it?

i dont know if this is any help but i came across this link on a forum http://www.videolan.org/
here is the forum linkhttp://www.inthe00s.com/index.php/topic,7772.0.html
I use PowerDVD as it was on my computer, and i just put the dvd in and then press the camera button. But you can change it so like instead of the picture saving on the clipboard it automatically saves to a folder.
But i don't know why your getting black boxes, i've capped loads of different DVd's :hmm:

Your getting the black box because of the way you are doing it. Yes you need to use something like Powed DVD or Nero etc. Your picture will be framed, but you won't actually lose any of the picture it's self.

Pause, then click on video -> snapshot.
Gets saved in you "my pictures" folder automatically
thanks all thats helped a great deal, i dont see why windows media doesnt allow you to do this, as other players obviously do. I dont see whats the problem with showing capped images as long as you link back or mention the original copyright owners.
