I read in Broadcast magazine this morning that Tony Jordan is leaving Easties after nearly 2 decades, in January 2007. He's going to devote his energies into his production company.

I think this is good news. He used to be a shining light amongst the writing team, but I don't think he has it in him anymore. I think he's the one behind some of the sensational storylines we've had in recent years, so I hope his departure (if true) means a more natural and grounded Easties, with the realism ploughed back into the old machine.

i agree with you ritchie,i think hes been coming and going as many times as sharon watts,i also think he lost touch with what ee was all about,he's become to succsessful for his own good,i also think he was resposible for building shane ritchies ego, didn't he say alfie was really him, more like how he sees himself, out with the old and hopefully his salary will be enough to pay for a couple of fresh new writers with somthing to prove

Yes Callum he's got too big for his own boots, and was definately the architect of Alfie Moon.

I hope they get Phelps into his chair. She's their only hope.

He has written some really good episodes but I think he's lost his touch. If he said that Alfie was really him then he needs to go in June 2006!

They need to get some new writers in, ones with fresh ideas.

I really liked some of his work, but I must admit, that things need to change at EE for it to continue to be a big hit on the BBC. :hmm:

Tony Jordan is/was one of the best writers they had, so this just says it all.

A shame that Tony Jordan is going but i suppose he wants to move on and try other projects. He has been a great writer for EE and hopefully someone good will replace him. :)

From DS

Former EastEnders scriptwriter Tony Jordan has made a comeback to the BBC soap less than 12 months after quitting.

Jordan – who quit the soap in February to create Holby City spin-off HolbyBlue through his own production company Red Planet Pictures – has already penned an episode of the Albert Square drama since his return.

Speaking to The Stage, the BBC's Controller of Continuing Drama Series John Yorke said: "He has come back to write another episode. I can't say too much but it is really exciting."

He added: "We had an idea and we went to him and he said, 'Wow, I have to do that'. He has come back because he could not resist. It is in his blood. He loves it."
