--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Superintendent John Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN) breezes into the building and gets straight down to business, making it clear to the team that he is intent on finding out what Sun Hill is made of. The objective is to find drug dealer Tom Dwyer (JOE JACOBS), on the run for GBH and supplying class A drugs. A thorough investigation starts, putting the team to the test - can they handle Heaton’s pace and apply his tough policing methods? DS Samantha Nixon (LISA MAXWELL) and DS Stuart Turner (DOUG RAO) start off interrogating Tom’s mother, Letitia (TROY TITUS ADAMS), but they reach a stalemate when Tom’s junkie parent refuses to divulge her son’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, DS Phil Hunter (SCOTT MASLEN) and DC Zain Nadir (TJ RAMINI) do their best to get something useful out of Tom’s granddad, Marcus Dwyer (RAM JOHN HOLDER), but his stubbornness is getting the officers nowhere. However, when the new Superintendent intervenes, the investigation starts to gather pace and the target is soon within the team’s grasp. The question now is who can impress Heaton and get the right result. For Stuart and Phil though, a competition of a different nature is top of the agenda: they are after a prize quite apart from the drug dealer – they are set on someone’s heart – and that heart is certainly not Heaton’s.
Elsewhere, DC Suzie Sim (WENDY KWEH) and Trainee DC Kezia Walker (CAT SIMMONS) interview Beth Adamson (KEELEY FORSYTH), a young woman who is confused about what happened to her after a heavy night out at a club. Beth doesn’t remember anything after leaving the night club and similarities to a previous potential rape case lead Kezia to believe that they are searching for a serial rapist. Facing the truth on CCTV footage is too painful for the victim and the search for suspects is slow. But will the Trainee DC’s instincts prove to be correct?
THE BILL is a talkbackTHAMES production and a direct commission by ITV. This episode was written by Jonathan Rich, directed by David Innes Edward and produced by Tim Key.
