Peggy Mitchell may be small, but she certainly packs a punch – as she proves when she gives her daughter-in-law Carla a smack round the chops. The Peroxide Pixie administers the traditional East End farewell after son Grant exposes his Brazilian wife’s scheming.
Carla stormed into Albert Square last week, seemingly determined to win Grant back – but it’s about to emerge that she and her lover Ray are actually trying to con him out of £25,000. The twist is all part of actor Ross Kemp’s departure from the show after a three-month stint as Grant.
An EastEnders insider revealed: “Carla is completely out for herself. When Grant left Brazil their business was going down the pan. Carla was left with a lot of debt and Ray had to bail her out. He turns up in Walford determined to get his money back. He’s a real nasty piece of work and Grant has no choice but to come up with the cash.
“There are a few twists and turns until Grant realises Carla is on the plot. She tries her best to worm her way back into his affections but he sees through her and calls her lying, cheating scum. And as she tries to flee the pub, his mum Peggy can’t resist throwing her out first – and sends her back to Brazil with a good slap.”
Despite her quick departure, scriptwriters are planning to bring Carla back to the Square - and soap bosses will be monitoring audience reaction to the dramatic plot as they bid to build up her role.
