A DREAM has come true for one Northampton schoolgirl, who has just won her ticket to fame by landing a part in the hit TV soap EastEnders.
To many, soap characters Dot Cotton, Jim Branning and Bradley on the BBC show may seem like members of the family, but for 10-year-old Lorna Fitzgerald this will actually be the case.
Young Lorna, who lives in Hunsbury, last week started filming in her new role as Abi Branning, half-sister to Bradley and granddaughter to Jim.
She is set to hit the screens at the end of June, as part of a new family to move into Albert Square, alongside father Max – played by Jake Wood – and Jo Joyner, who is to play her mother, Tania.
Her real-life mother, Teresa Fitzgerald, said: "Personally, I feel I want to show how proud we are of her and to thank everyone who has prayed for her and helped her in any way."
This is the first major role for Lorna, although she has previously had parts in hospital drama Casualty.
She started acting classes at the age of four, before winning a part in a small film called Big Girl, Little Girl.
She later joined the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Stony Stratford, as well as Derngate Theatre School.
It was through her agent that she heard about the role in EastEnders and turned up to the BBC studios in London for the first of three auditions.
Mrs Fitzgerald, who has two other daughters, said: "At first, it is just the look they go for. Then it is more intensive and she had to read from a script.
"By the second audition, she was still up against 60 or 70 people."
She added: "You start thinking about it when she gets to the third audition, but when the agent rang up and said she had got the part it was an overwhelming feeling.
"You don't know what it means until that point."
Lorna will now face a hectic schedule of balancing life and school in Northampton with learning lines and filming in London.
Mrs Fitzgerald said: "It is exciting for her to be in something her friends may be watching. In the past, she has been in programmes they couldn't watch."

'EastEnders' star Lorna Fitzgerald says Abi Branning is too ''innocent'' to kill Lucy Beale.
The 18-year-old actress admits she's shocked that so many fans suspect her character of killing the young businesswoman because she's so harmless.
Lorna told SoapSquawk.co.uk: ''I think it's quite funny because she's so innocent. I didn't expect everyone to think it was her, but everyone thinks it is Abi!
''In the street, people keep saying to me, 'I know you killed her.' ''
Abi's father Max Branning (Jake Wood) had an illicit romance with Lucy in the weeks before her tragic murder in April, while her sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) was the blonde beauty's business partner.
Earlier this week, viewers saw Max admit he had a heated argument with Lucy before her death, which resulted in her hitting her head and bleeding inside Max's car dealership. Concerned Abi then volunteered to help Max clean the office to get rid of any incriminating evidence.
Lorna admits she would be happy to be revealed as Lucy's killer - who will be exposed in February to tie in with the soap's 30th anniversary - because it would present an acting challenge.
She said: ''I'd be excited about the challenge as an actress. But it would change her character completely.''

abi's dark side is to be explored more, she attacks lauren and lola, so no bolton for her
I'm looking forward to Abi turning nasty. I don't blame her after the uncaring and downright nasty way Jay's treated her this week. She's been through a lot of trauma in her young life.
EastEnders aired another shock moment in the show's Halloween episode, as Abi Branning was caught out after a secret attempt to scare her own sister Lauren.
When Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) spotted that a creepy figure in a Halloween costume was following her, she chased the individual down and was stunned to unmask Abi as the culprit.
Lauren had already been followed by DC Cameron Bryant (Glen Wallace) in recent weeks, leaving her spooked and providing Abi with an opportunity to make things worse.
Digital Spy recently caught up with Lorna Fitzgerald, who plays Abi, for an exclusive insight into her character's actions.
What was your reaction when you found out this story was coming up?
"It was quite funny at first, because obviously me and Jacqueline both knew that it was going to be me in the costume and we both thought that I'm not very scary! But once we watched those scenes back, it did actually look quite scary because Abi was wearing her mask and was dressed all in black, so it was hard to tell who it was.
"I think it looked quite good on screen and I also think it's great that it was Abi - I don't think many people will have expected that!"
What were Abi's reasons for following Lauren?
"Abi is annoyed with Lauren, because she insulted her about Ben before this. She's quite embarrassed about that and she's also just annoyed at Lauren always getting so much attention. That's the thing, really - she just wanted to scare Lauren.
"I don't think there was any malice in it, but Abi has just reached the end of her tether now that Jay has dumped her. She just wants somebody to notice her, really!"
How do you think the EastEnders fans are going to react?
"I think it's going to be like the reaction I had when Abi killed Tramp - people saying, 'Oh, you killed Lucy!' I was reading the script thinking, 'I wonder who's going to be following Lauren?' and then I was shocked when I got to the part where it turned out to be me!"

Abi tried to scare Lauren
We'll see things get a little bit aggressive, as Abi attacks Lauren in the aftermath of this next week! What was it like to film those scenes?
"It's always great to do a stunt scene. Jacqueline is always up for that too. It was weird because being aggressive doesn't really come naturally to me, especially acting alongside Jacqueline because we get along really well, but it was quite fun to film."
Are you glad the show is keeping so many secrets like this now?
"Definitely! I think that's what makes the show so good at the moment - you just don't know what could be coming up. It was great the other week when Barbara Windsor returned and nobody had a clue. That makes things exciting and I think it's a good move by the producers, because it's really clever."
We are seeing a different side to Abi in general at the moment. Are you enjoying that, or would you like to see her return to her old self?
"I'm really enjoying it. I'd say don't bring the old Abi back because I love doing this! It's good and it's the right time now that Jay has dumped her. People had said before that she could maybe change, but I think it's the right time now that she is growing up."
Were you sad to see Abi and Jay break up?
"It was sad! Me and Jamie were both saying that it felt like the end of an era! I do enjoying working with him, so it was sad."
We've also heard there's an interesting dynamic coming up between Abi and Ben…
"Yes, obviously Abi has always liked Ben as they've been best mates for a long time. I think Abi is just confused at the moment after being dumped by Jay, and now she sees Ben as the closest thing to him. It's not that she's getting fixated on Ben, but she starts to have a level of affection for him that she didn't have before.
"I've enjoyed working with Harry [Reid, who plays Ben] on the storyline. He's lovely and we get along really well. We've got a lot of scenes together coming up too. It's nice when you get someone who you just naturally get on with, because it makes it more of a natural relationship on screen."

Ben and Abi
Would you like Abi to be Lucy's killer?
"I honestly don't know who it is as it could be anyone, but I would like it to be Abi because it would be a challenge for me to act it. Why not? It could be fun to film!"
Are the cast feeling excited or nervous about the upcoming live week?
"I think it's a bit of both really, but at the moment it's more excitement because it feels like ages away, so we're not really that nervous! There's a real buzz about the place at the moment, especially in group scenes because we're all trying to figure out who the killer is and discussing all the clues!"
Will it be another busy Christmas for the Brannings this year?
"I don't want to give too much away, but Christmas isn't really heavy for the Brannings - but then New Year is going to be good for them!"
Are you happy to stick with EastEnders for the foreseeable future?
"Definitely. You never know what's around the corner, but I'm definitely happy to stay there. I love working on the show, so I'm glad that Abi didn't go off to uni!"
EastEnders star Lorna Fitzgerald has teased that her character Abi Branning's dark side is set to continue, with some big drama coming up around Max's trial.
Viewers recently saw Abi turn on her dad Max as she told the police about his antics on the night Lucy Beale died, in order to get her boyfriend Ben Mitchell off the hook.
Abi's behaviour has become much darker over the last year, and Fitzgerald confirmed that there is still a lot more to come from her.
She told Inside Soap: "The dark side of Abi is set to continue. There is some really good stuff coming up with Max's murder trial, and you'll see that Abi really isn't as nice as she used to be.
"She is embracing her new role as an honorary Mitchell, and she loves it."
Fitzgerald also admitted that she has received a backlash since Abi reported Max to the police, but insisted that her alter ego's nasty streak has always been there.
She said: "When bosses first told me [about reporting Max], I thought, 'Maybe this won't be too bad and I can still look kind of sweet'. But then I got the scripts and I was like, 'No, there is nothing sweet about this at all'.
"To be fair, I think that side of her has always been there. People from her own family have left her and since she moved in with the Mitchells she has jumped on their bandwagon.
"You wouldn't believe the amount of hate I have had for dobbing in poor Max! It is quite funny that Abi is saying and doing all these mean things when she couldn't look more like an angel in her bird-print blouses."
She's currently in a relationship with Ben Mitchell, but EastEnders star Lorna Fitzgerald has admitted that she wants her character Abi Branning to reunite with Jay Brown.
Abi and Jay were in a long-term relationship before he decided to break it off last year, leading Abi to pursue a romance with her friend Ben.
Speaking to Inside Soap about her hopes for an Abi and Jay reunion, Fitzgerald said: "Jamie and I have always been close and he is so easy to work with.
"I really want Jay and Abi to get back together actually. They are such great characters and really suit one another. Come on, Abi, forget about Ben - that's clearly going nowhere fast!"
Abi has been in denial over Ben's sexuality ever since they got together, and is currently unaware of his secret fling with Paul Coker. However, Fitzgerald thinks that her alter ego will do whatever it takes to keep hold of her man.

She said: "Abi definitely has the potential to be a classic soap bunny boiler! I wouldn't put it past her to do anything to keep Ben.
"She is trying to convince herself that everything is fine, but deep down she knows that he doesn't really love her."
Fitzgerald has also confirmed that Abi's darker side is set to continue.

Should Abi be arrested and charged now, I mean how many times has she lied or changed statement about Max and also her own fight with Lucy, does the police know this?
EastEnders star Lorna Fitzgerald has hinted that there will be lots of twists and turns in Max Branning's murder trial.
Max is currently awaiting trial after being wrongly accused of murdering Lucy Beale last year. Viewers know that young Bobby Beale is actually the guilty culprit, but Max was thrown into the limelight when his daughter Abi decided to report him.
Fitzgerald, who plays Abi, told Inside Soap: "I reckon the viewers are going to be surprised by the outcome of Max's murder trial.
"It's not as straightforward as Abi dobbing him in - so much more is revealed. There are lots of twists and turns in the story, and the repercussions aren't necessarily what you might expect.
"Abi isn't going to be able to reverse what she does and come back from it."
Fitzgerald was interviewed by the magazine to promote her nomination for Best Bad Girl at the Inside Soap Awards 2015.
When asked which soap villain she thinks Abi is most like, Fitzgerald said: "Janine Butcher! It's a similar story in that she grew up in Walford and went over to the dark side.
"I also like Sienna in Hollyoaks, but she is really nuts. I give Abi a week before she gets that bad!"
Soap fans can vote for the awards via the Inside Soap website.

Tbh, I'm sick of Abi. She just really annoys me. She's one of those people who believes you can change a person's sexuality, which obviously is not possible, yet she's still staying with Ben because she believes she can. She sooo needs to face reality!
Although I do feel somewhat sorry for her at the moment. I mean she's dobbed her dad in, she's only recently seemed to to come to grips with it thanks to the letter and everything that Sharon told her to write to him... How's that going to work out when she finds out the truth, and that she dobbed Max in for a crime he didn't do? (That doesn't mean, though, I won't enjoy the look on her face when she does find out) And everyone knows this thing with Ben isn't going to end well.
Someday she's going to find out that she's basically given her all for the Mitchells, by dating Ben and turning against her dad, for nothing. (And knowing Phil, I'm willing to bet he'll turn his back on her once she's no longer necessary or doesn't have anything to contribute). Plus, when she finds out Sharon's been holding back and didn't tell her the truth about Max and Bobby... That's definitely going to rub salt in the wound, together with Ben betraying her and everyone basically telling her "We told you so!" I wouldn't be surprised if she has a psychotic break at the end of all this.
Tbh, I'm sick of Abi.
I agree with a lot of what you say, but I'm finding this new darker incarnation of Abi fascinating. Her world's going to come tumbling down when she discovers the truth about Ben and Max. I can't yet predict whether I'm going to feel sorry for her or not because she's complicit in all the lies - yet I still find her strangely sympathetic.

youre sure she was really sweet and innocent.?
children from unhappy homes deal with

whilst inside they are more angry than

In soap terms particularly I would say

She probably blamed him for the break-up.
And chose Walford and her life there
rather than Max specifically.
Perhaps the "dobbing in" is pay back.!
The more resentment is hidden -
probably the worse the effects later on.
Which is why it will be"interesting"
when she has to face the truth about
Ben eventually -those she does know!

I think you're right about Abi putting on a "sweet facade". Thinking about it, she was always very bitter that Lauren (the disruptive one) got most of the attention from their parents. Yes, her apparent change of personality - although rather sudden - seems inevitable when you think about it like that.

That would be sweet! Abi finally accepts her dad's guilty, and she did the right thing by dobbing him in...then Lauren comes in, saves the day and reveals the truth! If Abi ever thought Lauren was the fave daughter, then she would do after that!
EastEnders return for Tanya Branning?
EastEnders could see the return of Jo Joyner as Tanya Branning if Lorna Fitzgerald gets her way.
The actress, who has played Abi Branning for the last decade, says she thinks it’s about time her on-screen mum came back to Walford.
Lorna believes that given all the drama that’s going on in Abi’s life right now she could do with the help and support of her mum.
She said: “I’d love it if we could have a family reunion. Abi needs her mum! Tanya needs to make her a cup of tea, sit her down and help sort her life out.
“There’s a lot coming up and I feel very lucky to be getting such great storylines. It’s been an incredible ten years when I look back on it all. I’m really enjoying what we’re filming at the moment. It’s keeping me very busy and I couldn’t be happier.”
Speaking the the Daily Star Sunday’s Susan Hill, she added: “I’ve loved all the stuff that I’ve been doing recently. It’s been a gradual transition into more mature storylines.”
EastEnders' Abi Branning and Jay Mitchell set to rekindle romance
EastEnders is set to see Abi Branning shockingly rekindle her love with Jay Brown, if Abi actress Lorna Fitzgerald gets her way.
The pair have had some rocky relationships since they were originally an item - with Ben Mitchell ditching Abi and going after Paul Coker and Jay's latest flame Linzi Bragg being exposed as a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
Now it seems Abi and Jay will get back together in 2016, with Lorna saying Ben was a 'massive rebound'.
Talking about a possible reunion with Jay, Lorna - who has played Abi since 2006 - revealed to Express Online: “I think they could. I think character wise they could definitely get back together.
“I think specifically the character of Abi, she always sees her home in Jay and that’s why she got so caught up in Ben.
"It was massively a rebound, I mean she ran over her dog and then got with Ben a week later! Yeah, I think they’re soulmates.”
Speaking to to Mirror Online in December about her character's relationships she knew Abi would never be a Mitchell.
"I don't think she will ever properly be a Mitchell," she said, as she grinned about her character's future. "She just doesn't have it in her. She is a good person - which I think she tries to fight but at the end of the day. She's not, she's a Branning at the end of the day."

Abi's fall from grace has seen the youngster go from one of EastEnders most endearing heroines to becoming one of Walford’s most manipulative villains.
Earlier this month, her “fake pregnancy” with Ben Mitchell was finally exposed and left the teenager with very little friends and few more enemies.
But this darker side of the woman scorned is just the beginning, according to actress Lorna Fitzgerald, who’s teased there’s a “craftier” Abi to come.
When asked if Aunt Babe - who conjured up Abi’s web of lies - would get her comeuppance, Lorna wasn’t so sure. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the 20-year-old explained: “Aunt Babe’s crafty - she’s been doing it a longer time. Abi’s Aunt Babe in the making. One day she’ll be that crafty.”
However, the pair’s poisonous chemistry is a friendship Lorna actually cherishes to play. Admitting that she would love Abi and Babe’s relationship to flourish, she added: “I personally would love it to. The twosome and the friendship between them is so intricate, there’s so many layers in that.
Earlier this month, her “fake pregnancy” with Ben Mitchell was finally exposed and left the teenager with very little friends and few more enemies.
Abi getting all the blame for a toxic situation in which Ben was just as complicit (STD anyone?) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. She's now alone and friendless while he's happy in a new relationship after his thuggish and misogynistic display in the Vic. There's something very wrong with that picture in my opinion.

Yeah. I couldn't believe that out of the entire EE cast, they neglected to have her there at that scene where she would have found out the truth! I was so looking forward to seeing her face when she heard it, and realised she had sent her dad to jail for something he didn't do.
There's good news in store for Lorna Fitzgerald's Abi Branning in Thursday's (July 14) episode of EastEnders.
In the new preview clip, Babe (Annette Badland) and Linda (Kellie Bright) are willing to put the past behind them as they ask Abi if she'd like to get her old job back in the Queen Vic.
"We'd really like it if you came back, wouldn't we Babe?" Linda tells the stunned teen.
"Put all that palaver in the past," Babe added.

That "palaver", of course, relates back to Babe encouraging Abi to fake a pregnancy to save her relationship with Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid), only for Ben to eventually find out and humiliate Abi in front of all the patrons in the Vic in retaliation.
Since then, Abi's been a bit down on luck, as she's also been trying to deal with the fallout from sister Lauren's (Jacqueline Jossa) confession that she knew it was Bobby Beale who killed Lucy, and not their father Max.
Still, that all looks set to change as she accepts the job offer and agrees to a night out with her sister and her friends on Thursday - at least until Whitney Dean and Lee Carter's baby news threatens to expose Abi and Lee's one-night stand, that is.
EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday, July 14 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Abi Branning can't help fearing the worst when she hears that her dad Max is back in Walford.
Max returns to Albert Square on Christmas Day, but Abi is the last to hear the news as she spends a few days with her mum Tanya over the festive period.
By the time Abi arrives back home, Max has already taken steps to reacquaint himself with various people on the Square – including Stacey, Lauren and the Beales.
As Abi steps foot off the Tube, Lauren is waiting for her at the station and warns her that Max is back.
Later, Max seems ready for a fresh start as he attempts to get back on good terms with his family, but is he really being genuine? Or could he still hold a grudge over the way his loved ones turned against him when he needed them most?

Oh yes, quite right, Perdy. Couples who try for babies never get one. The best way to ensure having a baby is a one night stand with someone you don't actually like.
The Branning sisters are set to depart after 11 years in Walford.
Lauren and Abi Branning are being written out of EastEnders in a major cast shake up.
Sources from the BBC One soap have confirmed the sisters – played by Jacqueline Jossa and Lorna Fitzgerald – will leave Walford, with their exits likely to be part of this year's Christmas storylines.
A show spokesman told Digital Spy: "We can confirm that Jacqueline and Lorna will be leaving EastEnders.
"They have both been wonderful to work with and we wish them all the best for the future."
Lorna joined EastEnders 11 years ago, while Jacqueline joined seven years ago when she replaced Madeline Duggan as Lauren Branning.
Their exit storyline is sure to bring lots of drama to the Branning family too, as not only is their father Max currently embroiled in an elaborate revenge plot that Jane Beale has recently found out about, but Abi is currently pregnant with Lauren's fiancé's Steven Beale's baby.
And then, of course, there's the fact that Steven himself was revealed to be the unfortunate victim of EastEnders' big gas explosion week on Friday (September 8), succumbing to injuries just after telling Abi he loved her and wanted to be a better person for her and the baby.
Steven's death will see Lauren turn to alcohol as she struggles with her guilt in next week's episodes – believing he rushed into the burning building to save her – while wrestling with her conscience over never really loving him.
Although pregnant Abi is desperate to keep her big secret, she struggles to hide her hatred of Lauren – and eventually lets her true colours show by angrily accusing her of never loving Steven.
Is a new war brewing between the siblings? And could it be what leads to the pair's departure?
It's not known yet how the duo's exit will play out on screen, but here's hoping their fate is better than that of the Mitchell sisters Ronnie and Roxy, who drowned in a horrific accident in the New Year's episode.

Hmm, so this must mean Jane's not squealed - either because she's not able to, or is protecting Max?
new producer does not like real sisters

Possibly protecting Lauren. Thinking she's gone through enough, losing stephen. Even tho we know the truth about Laurens real feelings.

Lorna Fitzgerald has spoken out about her upcoming exit as Abi Branning, for the first time since the news was announced.
Lorna is being written out of the show alongside Jacqueline Jossa – who plays her on-screen sister Lauren. Joining them in departing is Ben Mitchell actor Harry Reid, while Laurie Brett's final scenes as Jane aired last night.
Further details about the Branning sister's exit storyline are being kept under wraps for the time being, but Lorna has insisted that she's looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
Speaking about her departure, she said: "I've been here since I was 10 so I am just going along with it, really. I've been here for a fantastic 11 years, so I'm just looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
"I'd like to do a bit of theatre – something completely different. I know it sounds really crazy but The Exorcist is showing in the West End for Halloween. Imagine playing that?
"It would just be so weird and completely different. No-one could compare it to Abi – well, I hope not! Perhaps I should be playing Mary Poppins instead..."
But fans still have plenty more of Abi to look forward to before she leaves, with Lorna promising high drama for the Brannings over the festive season.
"It will be good and it will be explosive. It could top the DVD one, why not?"

But will it rock the Square? Obviously no-one's life is going to be the same again.
If I was the Brannings I think I'd give up celebrating Christmas and just hide under the duvet for 12 days.
6 months pregnant no bump

It's really pathetic scripting to kill off more sisters over the Christmas period.
Next year?? Denise and her sister? rubbish with names.

Kim Fox-Hubbard.
Nah, she might be safe since Sean O'connor made it so they aren't actually sisters.

Only if she's actually pregnant. I saw an article the other day; apparently people are thinking she's not.
I'm inclined to think she is though. Didn't she already do the fake pregnancy thing with Ben?

But then no-one heard the gunshot earlier when Phil and Max were fighting. They seem to have hearing difficulties in Albert Square.

It would have been far better not to have brought Tanya back at all and give some excuse like she was in the middle of the Amazon Jungle and uncontactable, rather than have her somewhere nearby but not taking any interest in Abi dying or the baby. It just makes the whole thing look ridiculous....though, come to think of it, being completely ridiculous fits in much better with the rest of what is going on in Eastenders at the moment.

I think it is a mistake losing Lauren and Abi. Assumming Max is not leaving, the only family he will have is Jack and Dot. I doubt he will have much to do with Stacey now and whilst he is related to Robbie, Sonia and , Bex and Tiffany he has never had anything to do with them really. It's a shame as it would have been nice to have seen a new set up with Max, Abi, Lauren, Louie and baby Abi together rebuilding their family and dealing with stuff like Max's obvious mental issues..
