Actor and entertainer Les Dennis will guest star in an episode of The Bill this summer.

He will be back on our television screens in August playing Tom Walker, a man who helps Sun Hill coppers with their enquiries following the mysterious death of his father.

Les’s appearance in the popular ITV1’s drama will also reunite him with his former comedy side-kick, Lisa Maxwell, who plays DS Sam Nixon. The pair became firm friends when they worked together on Russ Abbot’s Madhouse and The Les Dennis Laughter Show back in the Eighties.

Perhaps best known for presenting Family Fortunes, Les has more recently received acclaim for sending himself up in the BBC series Extras with Ricky Gervais.

Les, who begins filming later this month, is excited about his new role: “It’s great! I watch The Bill and I’ve got loads of actor friends who have been in it so I’m really happy to be in it playing such a meaty role.”

“The bonus is to be back working with Lisa again as we did so much together in the early days. Straight away when we met up again the chemistry was there.”

Lisa is also looking forward to working with Les again. Her character, DS Sam Nixon, becomes involved with Tom Walker (Les Dennis) when she investigates the strange circumstances surrounding the death of his father. Tom appears to be the grieving son, but are things really as they seem?

“It comes as no surprise to me Les is respected as an actor,” explains Lisa. “Back when we were doing comedy together, he always approached his characters the same way an actor would so I’m really looking forward to doing drama with him.”

A spokesperson said: “This time though Les and Lisa won’t be vying for laughs – there won’t be a single gag in the script. The character Les will be playing is very dark.”
