Does it really matter? Most people get hold of it and do it whenever and whatever age they are!!

i suppose 18 because then you are officially an adult, but any stricter restrictions on it would be fine by me!
I think it should be 18, but I blame alot of shops because they dont always check at the moment that a person is 16. so raising the age wont make a lot of differance I dont think
I think 21. Tobacco obviously impaires health much more than alcohol does, and 18 is the age restriction for that, 21 is the next milestone age beyond 18, so 21.
Not that it will make a difference but i think it should be 18.

think it should be 18, but would be better if they never smoked at all it is a dirty smelly habit. I have never even tryed a fag cant stand the smell.:thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow
i think it should rise to 18 instead of 16

i dont think it matters because round my area most of the shops will sell to children under the age of 16 at the moment, but i do think it should be higher.
Surely with all of the Health Risks being so obvious now, on every packet, and us bing more aware of them now, no one should even smoke, no matter what their age! I can accept that older people who have smoked all their lives find it hard to give up, and i dont blame them for that. But every single person my age knows it gives you cancer and heart disease as well as other health problems, so why do they do it?! Smoking kills. End of. Its not just something people say to convince you to give up, because beleive me, people die way too young because of smoking. As far as i'm concerned, Life is more valuable then a fag in the park, or whatever. It should gradually be outlawed over many years, in my opinion, and the age should be drastically increased.
if i ever work behind a counter i will not sell kids fags and would ask for ID but if no ID then No sale

Thats great.. now if all shops would follow suit !!!
I think its the same principle as alcohol, 18 to buy it but if you look under 21 then ID should be given.
i do work in a shop and i always ask for id from anyone who looks under 21, it can be difficult to tell but sometimes it can be really obvious, its got nothing to do with the fines you can get if you sell to underage people, i don't want to sell to kids!!!
They all ask for ID round my way. What I don't get is why you have to be 18 to buy a lighter when it is legal to smoke at 16.
the reason you have to be 18 for a lighter is, i think because of what it is filled with, i did work in a shop once that would not sell lighters to anyone under 21!!!!

I was just curious as this girl was in the local shop the other week, and they wouldn't sell her one.
