Should ice cream vans be banned from school gates?
Discuss.
Youngsters in part of a Leicestershire town are being stopped from buying ice creams - because the local van has been banned from the streets.
Wesley Wilkinson can no longer trade in the Meadow Lane area in Coalville.
It followed claims the van was attracting youngsters who were causing trouble outside residents' homes and dropping litter in the area.
North West Leicestershire District Council introduced a street trading ban after the complaints.
Mr Wilkinson hit out at the ban and said it had affected his business.
But councillor Adoline Smith said: "I don't think it is the van that is the problem, it's the litter from the products that are sold."
The ban applies to all vans going into the area.
no not now its getting hot they definatly shouldnt..i mean if you have healthy food at school they should allow you to still have some privelegeds (sorry spelt wrongly!)

we have not had a ice cream van on our street for 3 years now but it was annoying because soon has kids hear the music its 'mum can i have a ice cream'
and they work out expensive when they come 7 days a week!
and yes ice lolly wrappers get thrown on the floor little kids drop they ice creams penny sweets get dropped so they do create litter but kids love them so they shouldnt be taken away
although British kids are becoming Obese like American Kids they should not Ban the ice cream vans cause the weather is getting hot and kids need to keep cool
I agree with banning them from outside school gates as I wouldn't want to think of my kids running out from school to get one, but, they should still be allowed up streets etc - I don't mind that at all (in fact I'm normally the one running to be first in the queue when the music sounds :rotfl: )
the vans should be banned outside school gates but not banned totally. There is usually about 5 - 6 going around my area now and Charley would be an elephant if I got her one everytime.. I have to tell her when she hears them that it is a dirty icecream man who picks his nose before given the icecream out.. (I say this at 8pm when she needs to be going to bed not eaten icecream)
No its way too hot for them to be banned i mean i undertsand that they do block same space but no that much and afterall the ice cream is sooooo good
It's a couple of villages from where I live and I think they should ban them from schoo gates but try teaching the kids to put their litter in the right place the bin for a change as well cos they are the problem not the icecream vans
When I was at hight school we used to have two ice cream vans in the school yard as well as a snack shop. Used to fine back then as there were activities other than the telly and computers back then
We dont have a snack shop at our school. We dont even have any vending machines. No chocolate, or sweets or fizzy drinks are sold. We have the best PE department in our area, and people are really active. So whats wrong with having an ice cream man outside the gates when we leave? Only a handfull of people use it anyway, so its not like theres loads of rubbish, compared to snack shops.
I think outside Primary schools, i can understand people wanting rid of them, because your kids will just pull over to them everytime they leave. But you dont do that when you get older, so whats wrong with that option just being there, and having the option to go there and buy something if you want?
we don;t have an ice cream van. we used to but then the school went onto healthy eating thing and we can't have them anymore.
the litter wasn't a problem, as there were lots of bins
i think yes from outside primary schools, but i think at high schools the kids should no how often, i mean it is the summer.

I never knew they had them outside schools before. I would agree with them being banned from selling outside schools as we are supposed to be encouraging our kids and young people to eat healthy. We have an ice cream van that comes around our street twice a night, and in the main centre of edinburgh there is lots of ice-cream vans and burger vans but the council is trying to stop them trading as it creates a bad example of the city when the tourist are on holiday

No i think that ice cream vans should stay there, as they have been there for years. We all remember the vans from when we young its an great British tradicion why change it:cheer: :cheer:
i suppose i kinda aggree with them being banned from outside school gates but they shouldnt be banned from the streets. ice cream vancs are traditional and i love sitting in the garden in the summer and hearing the music and then i can go and get a lovely ice cream to cool me down on the lovely sunny day - wow this is really making me crave ice cream!
in a way they should be banned from the school gates to stop kids eating rubish but it should not be banned completly

yes because there is no need for them to be at school gates. no need to ban them altogether though!
Our ice cream van was outside school today they are so yummy lol
I think that they should be banned because with the growwing number of obece ( sorry I know I will have spelt that wrong!) children they would be getting ice creams and getting even more obese!
