Unlucky-in-love hairdresser Maria Sutherland will be jumping for joy when she finds out that Corrie bosses are lining her up with a handsome new boyfriend. Actor Michael Dixon will play wealthy property developer Christopher Pitcher, who falls for Maria after knocking her down in his car (well, that’s one way to make an impression…)

Maria, you may recall, was dumped by mechanic fiancé Tyrone in February after he finally realised she was from a higher gene pool entirely. Then she fell for an unscrupulous Weatherfield Gazette reporter – but their brief fling ended in tears after Maria discovered he was only using her to get some inside info on her break up with Tyrone to use in his filthy rag.

But with Chris’ arrival, things seem to be looking up for the lovely Maria. “Both of them are very good looking and we believe they could become a strong force,” said a soap source. The scenes will be screened in June.

I think that Maria is a good character but she needs more to do would have been good to see her buy the salon when Audrey was going to sell to her.

She needs something that will bring her character back into the foreground. At the moment she's been shoved to an "extra" as far as storylines are concerned
