Adam Woodyatt has threatened to quit the show because he's fed up being “Walford’s whipping boy”. The actor, who plays batter-complexioned chip shop mogul Ian Beale, has told bosses he’s had enough of being singled out for “special treatment” by the Mitchell brothers. “Adam took his screen fate on the chin to begin with, but he's totally fed up now,” an insider told the Sunday Mirror. “After 21 years on the show he feels he deserves some respect.”

After 21 years on the show he is finally developing a back bone to speak out ?????:searchme: :wall: I just do not get it, this guy has so many more story lines built around him than any character on the show,, :searchme:

I do agree a bit with what Adam is saying about being the whipping boy for the mitchells but I think that's the writers fault for recycling storylines, but on the other hand he has been in employment for 21 years look at the money he earns. If he was to leave EE would other offers come flooding in :hmm: He does not know when he is well of he should just do the job and keep his mouth closed, if he wants to leave let him

I agree with Adam if he left.. He is been used as a whipping boy by the Mitchells, it is just going over old storylines again.. how many times can we see phil flush his head down a toilet, or bully him? same old same old and as for his women having affairs!!!! We have been there before EE, give Ian a bit of a break can you blame him for been whiney and boring???

Just what I thought, now Adam, next Wendy, June etc. The scripts are crap and repetitive especially for poor Adam. My advice to you mate is RUN!

:cheer: i thought ian was leaving eventually anyway so i really dont see what his problem is u got to admit he is a wimp and although he has been in the soap loads of years and he can sometimes be funny its getting a tad boring now he gets all sorts of women throwing themselves at him (strange) and then it all goes wrong over and over again i mean how many times can they do this one with ian time to change the record !

Well said Siobhan. I don't think this story is true however, which is a relief.

Adam of course only said in February that he was on the brink of walking out last year, due to the hammering the show got in the press. The boss persuaded him to stay though, but I think Adam has said he isn't going to 'do a Ken Barlow' - stay in the show from a teenager forever that is.

i think Eastenders would really not be the same without Ian Beale. His storylines are really repetative though.

I think he works better when hes being humorous

I'm sure there's enough characters in the show to conjure up someone! I don't think it's true. The Mitchells have been in it since the 90's and ever since then Ian has been on the receiving end of their frustrations. Why get upset about it now?! It's a good storyline.

well you think he would have said something earlier, I can see where he's coming from but then thats his character Ian, he's a wimp when it comes to being in front of the Mitchell's. Many fans and critics alike would soon start moaning if they changed his character like they have done with so many, Adam should be aware that Ian is The Mitchell's whipping, always has been. Besides him and Phil have been getting on better so may be the bullying will stop.

I would be very sorry to see him go...really annoyed about the Jane/Grunt storyline..no doubt there will be a baby storyline in the future when we wonder who will be the father..yawn:thumbsdow

I think that Adam will have a problem trying to find other employment IF he did quit EE, hes been Ian Beale for 21 years and I honestly think he is well and truly sterotyped. Can any one honestly say that former EE "stars" have not struggled to find other work, What has Jessie Wallace, Leslie Grantham, Hannah Waterman( Laura),Shaun Williams ( Barry), Lucy Speed and Jack Ryder,, been doing to date ??? Not much I am sure,,If Adam is smart he will keep his mouth shut,,, :searchme: Just my opinion.

i do get what he is saying but i think he has been a great contribution to the show and is one of the legendary characters. EE should give Iain a backbone it would be great for iain to turn into a hard man

It would be hard after all these years of being picked on for Ian to grow a backbone. Personally i'd like to see him get one over on the Mitchells but I do think he'd have to leave and come back a stronger person for it to work. It wouldn't work for him to suddenly become a hard man after all the years of being a doormat.

I agree with you.. Ian, after he finds out about Jane's affair, should sell up, and take the kids aways somewhere, maybe to US to Sharon.. and then come back and get one up on the mitchells or something...

Rain that does make tons of sense,, yea let him leave to the States for say 6 mos and come back empowered and totally STRONGER, and able to take on the Mitchells, wonder if he would leave Ben behind ???:searchme:

I don't think he will have a choice about Ben.. he is legally Phil's. I want to see Ian come back a better man, not just to get one up on the Mitchells and go on and on about it like he does now... done in a nice way, no gloat, just an inner peace for Ian

We have now had Paul Ross confirm that Adam Woodyatt is not leaving EE (on This Morning). So I think we can close this thread now.
