FOOTBALLERS' WIVES has been axed by ITV after five years.

The bizarre and bitchy goings on of Tanya Turner and co have been kicked into touch by ITV bosses following poor ratings.

Audiences for the last series slumped to an abysmal 3.7m for the final episode last month.

An insider said that the hugely successful formula, which included storylines including hermaphrodite babies, orgies, rapes, murders and over the top weddings, "had run out of steam" and was axed because of "falling ratings."

Not even a guest star of the calibre of ex-Dynasty legend Joan Collins in the last run could save the trashy drama from oblivion.

Guest stars over the years have included players Sol Campbell and Teddy Sheringham.

But surely they'll have to do a one off episode or something to tie up the loose ends of the last series.

Hmm, think it was time to end it really as all the best characters had left/were leaving. I was an avid watcher for the first two series but the other series were not as good and the new characters were not that great.

BUT there are so many unanswered questions. It like suddenly ending lost (ok maybe not quite as bad. I hope they do a one off eppisode as said above just so they can tie up the loose ends!

I don't think they will do a one off episode to tie up the loose ends. When ITV axe dramas that is usually it, end of story.

Well i'm not surprised really. Bye Bye Footie Wives. Best ever character on that show would have to be Liberty..

Not surprosed at all, it wasnt the same this year and i doubt id have watched another anyway!

It wasnt the same since Tanya and Hazel left, even with Tanyas return the show was still pap apart from her! So its not loss, i jus hope to see Zoe in some more tv shows soon

i do agree that it wasnt going anywhere all the older characters have left :( its like wacthing another tv programme without hazel and the rest

this should have been the last series yeah but they shouldn't have left any cliffhangers for us to wonder about they should have had all storylines concluded, ITV did this with "at home with the braithwaite's" they ended the show when so many questions were un answered its really unfair

Oh this is so unfair. The end of the current series just ended with so many unanswered questions and a big cliffhanger and now they won't be showing what happened :( :angry: :( I am really dissapointed. I thought the latest series was really good, i just wish they would do a one off special to tell us what happened next because i am really angry about this. :mad:
Apart from that, Footie Wives was a great drama and really kept me on the edge of my seat but i just wished they resolved everything in the final episode. :)

It wasn't the same when Tanya and Hazel left. What a shame its gone and so is dream team.

i think Jason was the best character in the show and once he left it went downhill

it'll be pretty rubbish if they dont do a one off episode just to tie up the loose ends maybe even bring back a few characters

It is a shame i thought it was great but it was not the same like has been said from when Tanya and Hazel left the new characters just were not as good .I agree i am annoyed they ended it with all those cliffhangers.

No they won't be showing another series, as Footie Wives has been axed.
