View Full Version : A levels
I hate drama a level.
I love it.
But i HATE IT.
Awww I love it :D
why do you hate it?:p
Theory - the Unit 6 exam. I want it to melt away.
I also hate how much work it needs, im always constantly doing drama work, maybe thats just our teacher
Also, don't you hate it when people think drama is easy and a doss!
I do love it though :) My joint favourite subject :D
Yeah we have a Unit 6 theory exam where you do 6 different essays
And yeah I hate it when people think drama is easy! its soo not!

I have my first AS resit on Friday, I know that A Level Drama pieces were yesterday
Resit tomorrow - oh the joys
Have revised all day and i swear i know nothing!
Despite this; i only have one A2 exam this month, the rest are in June - which is good :D
Mine start on monday
5 exams this time round :(
I know the webiste where you can find the summer timetbale
I have a horrible week! :( Its pure evil!

Each exam board will have theie exam timetable on their website. Pretty scary when you look at it for the first time. A2 finals are always the worst for timetabling.
yeah thats where I found them, through AQA and Edexcel
Its really evil the only good point is I finish really early

I had Psychology Unit 1 on Thursday. It was a year since my gran died on so I won't be surprised if I have to redo it. I couldn't concentrate that well and ended up having to rush some questions. Some of them were really random too which didn't help.
Economics on Friday.

im sure you did better than you think. good luck with your economics on fri :)
Had geography re-sit this morning, im really not sure what to make of it
English tomorrow
Hmm Economics this morning. Part of it was nothing like the Specimen Paper (of which they only did one and it's a new course ) Some bits were a bit dodgy but I think it was ok overall.. don't want to convince myself I've done really well though incase I haven't.
I had to rush multiple choice at the end which wasn't so good but the teachers said it was best to leave that section until last as it is easier to rush and do well on than the other section.
I was in the exam and a class in the next room had a video on, took 10 minutes to turn it off while I had to keep working and then turned it back on again. They had to move me and give me an extra 5 minutes because of it; I hope I didn't write a load of rubbish while the video was on as I didn't have time to check it.

Unit 4, we do the option of microbiology ans biotechnoloy which is horrible
is that the unit about the kidney or is that another unit? we did the option of food science cos apparently its the easiest! i think that was for unit 4 anyway
Yep the one with the kidney and the eye and respiration and other stuff
I find microbiology stuff so hard, just cos theres so much learn and all these different names!
Unit 4, we do the option of microbiology ans biotechnoloy which is horrible
I did that module. There's a fair bit to learn about micro techniques, serial dilution, plates etc. It was better than unit one (biochemistry) but still difficult because there was so much to learn.

oh right, i sort of understood the stuff about the kidney and eye but still did badly in the exam! the food science option we took was quite easy, although you did have to remember how to spell all these really long weird words!

Good luck to everyone on Thursday. I know you will all to brilliantly.
 Do not want to knowwww! We have to go to the deputy head of 6th form's office to get ours (my psychology teacher.) I'll know if I haven't got an A in that straight away; he'll most likely frown at me or something for underachieving lol. I have Economics second lesson on Thursday but we are not allowed our results until 11am (if we have a free at that time), which I don't; I hope the teacher doesn't get them earlier than us and drop hints as to what we've got.
I want to open mine when I get home but I know I can't. I'm bound to come across one out of the four teachers who's bound to mention results. Psychology lesson last as well.
Your teacher should get them either the day before or the morning i.e. before you do.
It's not the end of the world if you fail a module (I should know, I failed pretty much every module in my A levels  ).
I thought the teacher got them that day via email .... ahhh well who knows!
Kim im sure you'll be fine, and as Abigail said its not the end of the world if you fail or dont do aswell (not that you wont...) you can always retake :)
di marco

I feel really CRAP posting mine but here I go
English unit 2 resit : B :)
English unit 5 (accent and dialect one :p) : A :D
Geography unit 2 resit: B (improved this one by 49 marks cos I got an E before)
Geography unit4 : C (im gonna resit this one)
Biology unit 4: D!
biology is the grade i need so im resitting that one
Mine:
Psychology - A  I was the second highest in the school I think :D :D I really thought I'd messed that exam up given the circumstances on the day.
Economics - B :crying: Grrr. I was on my way to my last lesson when one of the teachers stopped me and said that he was disappointed with my result. I'm annoyed enough anyway without having disappointed the teachers :(

I'd be over the moon if I got a B at A level. You've done great, congrats. Don't worry about what your teachers think, you can make the marks up in other modules and coursework.
Thanks :)
I am proud of some of them apart from my unit 4's in geog and biology, I know I can do better, especially geography in that unit
Improvement of 49 marks is excellent :cheer:
Yeah I know thats good cos that mean my overall AS grade is an A :D
But still my A2 geog exam a C just 2 mark over the grade boundary, I hope I do better in the resit

what did you get for AS? i found mostly in my year that people got the same for alevel in biology as they did in AS. it is really hard though, only one person in my year got a B in biology, most people got Ds or Es (including me) and quite a few people failed, even though most of the people were really clever. my sis failed biology too. although they ask for a B, often they will let you in anyway depending on everyones results, just do your best :)

Had a Sociology Unit 1 exam yesterday, General Studies tomrrow and ICT Unit 2 on Friday! :)
how did it go?
My first exam English langauge resit, im resitting a B, is on friday morning
I only started revsing this morning but I can only revise for half the paper AND I find the stuff easy to remember
I had Psychology Unit 2 this afternoon. Business on Monday then English on Wednesday. I hate them all being crammed in, I think I focused too much on Psychology. I have like 2 weeks after English until Economics.
How did it go Abbie? I'm resitting a B in January I think; didn't want to do it in June as it is at exactly the same time as the Unit 2 so I would've had the whole AS back to back which I didn't fancy.
I loved it!!!
 lol I know that sounds really odd to say but it was good. Text Analysis was good, I did the paragrahs in order that my teacher sugested. Hes an examiner so his advice is always good.
The the esssay on language and representation was the best. It was quite broad in a way even though it had a focus but it was the best question I could have got. I just hope I got an A otherwise there would have been no point in me doing the exam!

2 down 2 to go. 12 mark question on Interest Rates in Business... Economics saved me! We've covered them in Economics but not in Business.
you only have 4 exams??
In total I have 10
A2 finals are a killer. I did more resits than A2 summer modules. Shouldn't have bothered, I failed anyway
Good luck to you all. Don't stress too much afterwards, there's nothing you can do about it.

Yeah. It's because most A Levels are now only 2 units in each year. I'm not resitting the B I got in Economics yet because I could make up the marks on this one anyway and it clashed with Unit 2. English is 1 unit coursework and Business is 3 units with 2 courseworks. Psychology I got an A for in Jan so only had the Unit 2 to do (thank god, there is too much on that unit as it is!)

I have decided to prioritize, history sources paper and pre release science paper are going out of the window until a few days before the exam! I know thats not what your meant to do but the pre release you can't really revise for its more general knowledge and depends on the questions on the day and the sources paper is pretty basic..I didn't revise for that at all last year. This year I have actually looked at the material a bit.
Throwing myself into revising for physics paper and the essay bit for history because those are the ones I really need to revise for!
Good luck everyone. :)

hey Layne how are you finding the Unit 6 stuff?
Not bad, to be fair i haven't looked at it in a while! But i have got most of my notes sorted, actually no i need to go through them to sort out my notes for the exam. Need to annotate my Trojan women loads more though! Urgh fun times. Going to do it after the practical though!
How is yours going? x
Well Shakespeare is okay but Trojan women not so much :S
One more left :D And that's not for 2 weeks. I went to see one of the Economics teachers when I got out of my English exam today and got him to email the powerpoint he was meant to have emailed us before. He told me to take a break for today. So I won't argue I don't think haha.
I hate the fact none of my exams have happened yet ... ii want them over!! Haha!!
Abbie - i know what you mean about Trojan women its so .... meh! I deffo need to major annotate it up for the exam, ive already page marked the different units and the major points :D
It seems like the A2's are starting late, when do you finish? Do you get annotations in the drama exam then?
My friend had her first exam today and her Music and Physics clash tomorrow. I've found 3 in the last 6 days too much.

Was it someone on here who I offered my unit 6 biology revision question spider diagrams to? I can't remember who it was.
erm I dont remember but as far as I know arent I the only one at the moment doing the same biology course you did :D
Hmm wonder who it was then. I was really chuffed with my fifteen spider diagrams on key areas. Shame I failed the module after all the hard work
Aww, well are they helpful cos I could really use all the help I can get!
Yeah. Some of them are what my teacher did and the others I did myself. Complete with full colour and a few doodles/diagrams. Key words and phrases.
Wow you got loads of help
with Unit 6 we have done NOTHING our teacher has basically told us just to revise
Done suppose I can have a peek? :p
Of course you can. I can scan them when I go back to uni in a few days and email you them or I can post them all to you. I'm not bothered which, I don't want them back. The only reason I kept them was because I knew you were doing the same course.
Aww :D
erm can you scan them if thats ok :)
I cant believe we have like done no class work on it
Ok, it won't be until Friday though. These are the areas and questions we were told to do:
Mitosis
Meiosis I
Meiosis II
Phosopholipid bilayer
Membranes
Nutrition
Enzymes
Gene technology
Cell structure
My teacher did these: Not nearly as impressive as mine :p
Roles of lipids in living organisms
Digestion and absorption of carbs and the regulation of blood glucose
Uptake, transport and roles of mineral ions by flowering plants
Detection of light by mammals and flowering plants
Transport of molecules and ions through the cell surface membrane
Give an account of variation, natural selection and speciation (this was similar to a question on June 08 paper)
I did your paper as a mock the other day
What did you think? I did the ecology 15 mark.
erm it was ok, I had to guess on the the Biogas! had no idea
And the genetics I made a right silly mistake on the diagram
I did the ecology one
I didn't get the biogas one either. It's either not in the syllabus or we weren't taught it, I don't ever remember doing it.

nah it was alright, i found it a lot easier than the cw we did in yr12. i was worried to start with when they told us we wouldnt be doing cw but we went through a lot of past papers and were told how to structure it etc. i was dreading it being one about chemicals cos you had to know the names of the ones you would use but it was to do with animals and environment so i managed to get an A in that paper, shame the other paper for unit 6 i got a D or E in!

I wish I finished that early! :(

Its because I only do two subjects. Well one of them is worth 2 A levels, but that is 70% coursework, meaning I only have 2 exams in that and I also have 2 in History and they are all quite close together.
Yeah but still, I know other people that finish that early
and 2 of my closest friends finish their exams on my birthday :ninja:

Kim you will walk it stop worrying.
 omg! really?
Mine finish on the 19th june :(
It's because I got a B with 75% on Unit 1. So to get them both to 80% I need 85% in this. Looks like I'm in for resits :ninja:
You shouldnt put to much pressure on youself
Wouldnt you be pleased with a B
Kim, once you get to uni nobody cares what A levels you got. Work hard enough to get the grades for uni but don't stress over it. And if your teachers put pressure on you to get 85%, take it with a pinch of salt. They may want the best for you but there's a line that has to be drawn somewhere.
You don't have to satisfy anybody but yourself. Your teachers and family aren't going to hold it against you for the rest of your life if you get a B instead of an A. After a few hours, they won't really care.
I really agree with abigail, at the end of the day as long as you meet what a uni wants, thats all that matters

I should really have looked at the specification for history earlier. Could have saved myself some revision on topics I didn't need to revise.
Surprisingly four main topics questions are going to be asked are on Versailles, Appeasement, Munich crisis and to the outbreak of wars. Emphasis on 1930s, specifically 1938-9 rather than 1920s. Obviously this is all including opposition, support, pacts, agreements, guarantees...
I am now currently on wikipedia researching the six specific events e.g. Stresa Front; they list. Revision is going so slow today...
You probably already know this but don't rely on wiki for accuracy. And don't cite it in your coursework.

Oh yeah I know, I've got a text book to check, its good but not specifically for the Edexcel course so its a bit lacking in detail in places for what I need.
I don't think I used Wikipedia in my coursework..
Had my biology unit 1 resit this afternoon

Sampling testing and processing today.
Two five mark questions I had no idea what to do so I made it up. Think all of the calculations but one were ok. The third section of the paper was awful, I know they do something you don't have to know but Radon. Seriously. To get rid of radon gases you fumigate a house, right? :rotfl: Dear me. I tried my best.
Bit hit and miss that paper. Some bits I answered well, some I didn't have a clue. Overall I don't think I failed it spectacularly. I hope. ;) Yay for coursework.
I always do that with calculations, I get confused and not sure what to do so I make it up :p
Had my last one this afternoon. I don't know what to think about how it went to be honest. I remembered an example when I got out of the exam which isn't good :(

That's been in at my school for a while, at least since I did my first set of science modules in Year 10. I don't know if it was in when I did my SATs, but I remember being allowed a pencil case that wasn't see through back then. Or do the rules only apply to GCSE upwards?

Yeah, I think it's very unlikely that someone wouldn't be heard in a silent exam hall if they tried to take the label off of their bottle.
I've never heard of the water bottle thing. We had see through pencil cases and no calculator lids (everyone ignored that though) and the other usual suspects.

i always hated physics, couldnt do it at all! i did even worse in my m1 resit than i did the first time! i was glad that we only did one mechanics module and did statistics for the other one. is it edexcel your doing?
maths (M1)

My friend who does Maths with Mechanics finds it the hardest module. Maths is the subject she's doing the least well in but she got a C for C1 and then 4 marks or something for her M1 mock! I can't count how many times she's stayed after class/school to get extra help with it.
My other friend got an A* in GCSE Maths when she took it in Year 8. She got a B on M1 the first time she took it; the only Maths module she ever got a B on.

"Chamberlain's conduct of foreign policy from May 1937-September 1939 was sensible, if not un-heroic. How far do you agree with this opinion" Couldn't remember much in 1937, I could only think of the war between China and Japan. But now I see I have missed out the agreement between Italy and Britain, Nazi-Soviet pact and the Pact of steel. Damn damn damn
I wrote 9 and a half pages. I had a lot to say, which I guess is good, but I kind of ran out of time at the end. 1 hour is not enough!! Wrote a bad conclusion in that 10 minutes left panic. I don't think I failed but I spent far too much time describing the events.
No more British foreign policy thank goodness! (well unless I fail but lets not hope it comes to that )
9 and a half pages in an hour  As you say an hour isn't long and you probably couldn't have written about every event in that time anyway.

I hate hate hate OCR! The way they word their questions its like they are deliberately trying to confuse you. They are so obscure.
Its like...One question was is the wavelength of blue light higher than, lower than or the same as red light and then next one was is the frequency of red light higher, lower or the same as blue light.
I know they are supposed to test you but can they make it so I don't have to work out the question as well as the answer!
I am soooo sick of biology revision I feel like I know nothing and im going to fail, Im really stressed right now!
Leave the books for a couple of hours and chill  Too much revision will make your brain explode.
When are your exams? You'll be fine, you've done well in the others.
Today they told us that we are sitting the A2 Business exam in January! I hope my exams were ok as I will have so many in January otherwise.
I'm really praying for that 85% now otherwise I have to do a resit on my 18th birthday if I read the timetable correctly. And if I read it correctly also my Psychology and Economics Unit 3's will be on the same day  There is sooo much to know for them :(
Kim, you will be fine. It's better to do some exams in January, especially with A2, because it reduces the number of exams and stress in the summer exam period. And if you don't do as well as you hoped, you can do it again.

I had my first English exam on Monday on Paradise Lost. I don't think it went too well to be honest - I wrote four pages, though I could have added more to my answer to give a more balanced argument and I don't think I addressed the question fully... I had to say whether I thought Satan was essentially like a human by the end of Book 2. I discussed the presentation of his character and how I thought he only became more human to the reader by Book 2, and in Book 1, the reader would just admire him, but I didn't really discuss Milton's form or structure so I think I went wrong there!
Do they give you your predicted grade if you don't turn up then?

Naah they don't take your predicted grade - its just an instant U, i was just over-exaggerating the point of my poop exam on monday.
It was english Abbie, it was awful - saw my teacher today and she agreed the extracts were horrible! But hopefully if everyone thought that the grade boundaries might be lower.
Psychology yesterday was okay - could have been better, but could have been ALOT worse!
English part 2 today - drama and poetry (Hamlet and Byron) was not bad at all - did the other question for Hamlet compared to everyone else but i thought it was a better option for me! And the byron question was good - i just hope the ramble i wrote constitutes a good mark  Just drama left next week now .... woo!
Lol I really can't tell when people are joking!
I did Hamlet for coursework this year. I would have hated to sit an exam on that. I wasn't a fan of that play and am now dropping the subject

Much more. It was "was Hitler's rule a despotic tyranny". I didn't know what that meant. I thought it meant the opposite to what it did. Handy.
There is so much more that I could have put if I had known it was totalitarian, I could have used own knowledge, which I hardly used.
I'm hoping the examiner will understand that I didn't know what it meant. Because to be fair I did present a for and against argument, which is what you are meant to. I am just annoyed that they had to word it so obscurely...its not like I was taking english.

Drama wasn't too bad - running out of time towards the end, but coped okay!
The PErformance question was horrible - Directors :| Managed to cover it okay - only referred to one example of another time period so thats a bit bad!
LOVED the Trojan women questions - we planned loads of Cassandra things this morning :) And for the direction one i did what a did in a previous essay and directed the beginning and a couple of other bits :) Ooh good old suffering!
Ive finished too!!! :D :cheer:
then some of drama people went to the pub for a drink :D I love being 18 :p

I'm all done as well. Drama exam wasn't too bad today, it could have been worse but I still think I've near enough failed the paper as I just found it very difficult generally - reading 10 pages of an extract, annotating it and answering two questions worth 25 marks each in the space of about an hour and a half is a bit tough! but oh well.. it's all done now :)
I am also off out tonight to the pub with some friends.
god it seems like a lifetime ago that i finished my a levels. i feel so old :( :thumbsdow
Awww lol, your not!
Like the new SBBB thing on the logo on the boards, very cool

It's only a year since mind but it seems so long ago. It's a year and a day since my last A level exam.
