Who here suffers from Hayfever?

I had hayfever since I was 9-10 I think? I got it 4 days ago and started taking my tablets and I need my eye drops soon :p

Every year I take my tablets everyday but then when it gets into a pattern I forget to take it and it goes on and off and then eventually I forget totally and it stops!! :rotfl:

I got my SATs coming up in a week and Im dreading it even more.. I can just see the water eyes and sneezing all through the tests!! :crying:

I have had it since I was 5 (so 25yrs now)

I always take the antihistamine tablets that you can take during the day (one a day ones don't work for me) and I also have to use the eye drops and nasal spray - and guess what, so does Ste and Ci now too, so during the summer our kitchen is like a chemist, but on the good side, they will give me a prescription for Ci's Piriton and eye drops, and Ste uses the same ones so that saves me a lot of money.

i have to take these little pills in the summer to stop me becoming all stuffy and blocked up lol i cant breathe in summer when its hay fever season lol

.:SpIcYsPy:.
22-04-2006, 11:26
Yep!! Mum does that in my name too seeing as she uses the same stuff as me :p

I use Cetirizine tablets and I stop sneezing and everything in about 10-15 minutes, so that's good. I forgot what eye drops I use but I think I wrote it down somewhere :p So I need to find that and pop-over to the chemist before my eyes start playing up!!

I started taking tablets last year, before it was nasal spray.. Oh god I hate it!! :|

I got it really badly last year, my eyes were really swollen and itchy at school, which was annoying. The school nurse said she had never seen anything so bad :o so I was got quite worried after that, but the doctor gave me some tablets to take, so I'll take them again this year I think.

Sneezing is one of the many symptoms.

Symptoms differ from person to person, but in the majority you will:

Sneeze around cut grass
Have watery, itchy eyes
Runny nose

I get itchy if i sit on grass too. Its almost like a cold (sometimes it has been called the summer cold)

.:SpIcYsPy:.

I think it's best to go to the doc's Gadders. They will really know weather it's just grass or hayfever. :)

For any one who suffers really badly with nasal congestion and (like me) find nasal sprays and all the other stuff doesn't seem to be helping - in between taking my antihistamines, I have some Optrex Eye Bath, which really helps with the itchy eyes (washing all the pollen out and seems to be far better than eye drops - prevention better than cure maybe :D ) and i've also started taking Sudafed (over 12's only) Decongestant tablets (non drowsy) and suddenly, I can breathe through my nose again!!! :cheer:

Just wanted to share this with you, if any of you, like me, are having real problems this year, with nothing working.

Jojo
21-06-2006, 14:53
Is anyone else waking up with really sore throats?? Yep - its because (or for me at least) you are breathing through your mouth, rather than your nose, so it dries out your throat, causing you to wake up with a really sore one.

Nothing to recommend for the runny nose though Gadders, but to be honest, I'd rather that than it being blocked :)

Yep.. nose gets blocked as soon as I sleep and I sometimes have a bad cough too.. because of my throat :(

Thanks for that Emz :) I will tell dad as he gets it the worst.. my eyes are worse than usual but I see worse!!

I sneezed 5 times in a row at break and I looked as if I been crying.. Everyone asked me if I was ok and was like Ok...:hmm: I could have sneezed more but I tried to hold my breath and just do something to stop sneezing any more!! :wall:

my husband gets tablets called telfast 120mg from the doctor for his hayfever and these have been much better than anything he has had before. our neighbour has the same tablets in 180mg form so if you are really bad you can have very strong ones too.

Well guys it's that time of year again! I started taking my tablets last Monday when I started school from the Easter holidays and it slowly hit me on Wednesday.. Now I think I'm in the normal hayfever stages, sneezing everywhere and 'crying' I already experienced a 'bad' moment.. I was putting my make up on.. my mascara was just about the dry and then I had like a sneezing fit and tears were running all over the place.. not good

I heard of some New Era Hayfever tablets they are.. homeopathically prepared biochemic remedy! Whatever that means I'm guessing natural. I might get them and see.. I'm just wondering if you can use them with the tablet which are prescribed from the doctor. You can get them from Boots :) x

My tablets are something like Xzyal and are only 5mg this time.. The eyebaths I might try this year Emz! :p Oh and you know the Sudafed, is that the nasal spray or tablets? x

--------

Omg I just researched the eye bath.. so you have to place it over your eye.. them look up with your eyes open for about 30 secs?! It just sounds pretty scary to me

--------

Oh and can you mix eye drops? Eg. prescribed eye drops/with brightening eyes eye drops for example?

xTanya
28-04-2007, 19:13
Ooo the eye bath does sounds scary don't think I could do it:rotfl:

I don't get anything perscribed I just tend to take piriton when I need it, i'm just really at the sneezing stage at the minute and sometimes watery eyes. Actually the last couple of years I haven't been getting it that bad the first couple of years I got it pretty bad but it seems to have eased saying that i've probably jynxed it so *touch wood* hehe.

The eye bath isn't too scary, it's a bit uncomfortable though.

I wouldn't mix eye drops with eye brighteners, they may have chemicals in them that react with each other. You could use eye drops then put eye brighteners in a few hours later.

Think of the eyebath like swimming under water with your eyes open Spicy - strange at first, but really helps.

Me - suffering badly, but can't take a dime. Eye drops are doing absolutely diddly squat and by the time I use them, its too late anyway (I wouldn't mix them Spicy hun)

Sudafed - its the tablets that I took before Spicy, not the nasal spray. Once my nose is blocked how a nasal spray is supposed to be sniffed I really don't know - someone ask a doctor and see if they've tried it

Checked with my doc and whilst I can take Piriton apparently this year (my only solace) I tried one spoonful (teaspoon as I don't want to take more than that) and I ended up falling asleep at 9pm. Can't risk that happening whilst I'm driving or something, so that one is going straight back on the pin board.

Think of me whilst I suffer right through till Sept/Oct, through all 3 seasons :crying:

Guess I'm lucky if you suffer through 3 seasons. I only get it this time of year when rape seed oil is grown/coming to harvest time. It's all thats grown around here and every field is full of it so there's no escape

Have you tried beconase nasal spray? It's not particulary nice up your nose and it taste awful (got to tip your head back so it runs down your throat  ) but it works for me.

I've suffered from it since I was 5 JB, so have tried and tested so many different concoctions, both prescribed and over the counter, and unfortunately, the only thing that does it for me is the normal, "as many as you need" antihistamine tablets sold either at Asda, Boots etc (the cheapest ones) but like I said, this year I'm not allowed, so will be suffering.

All three seasons is no fun at all and living in the middle of the country, I know what you mean about the rape seed etc - nightmare isn't it!

I get mild Hayfever, which i mainly suffer from when i'm at school (We're surrounded by Oak Trees, so it must be something in that which doesn't agree with me). I just get itchy eyes though, so its not too bad. I've done the eye-bath thing for years, and it really works. Its not that bad, its just like standing in the shower with your eyes open for a bit, or going swimming, really. But as i said, i've never had it badly, so i really feel for all you guys who really suffer from it badly.

Its freshly cut grass that sets me off, as soon as spring arrives and people drag their lownmowers out I'm sneezing all over the place and only stop when people stop cutting it. I HATE HAYFEVER mine has started aain, tickly nose, itchy skin, constant snot!!!

went to my exercise thingy today and they had some natural precautions for hayfever in their newsletter, wasnt sure if any of these would be ok for you ems as you cant take the other stuff

Eat High-C Foods: Vitamin c is said to be a natural antihistamine, Good sources are citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, gree peppers and cabbage

Ask for yoghurt: A small pot of live culture yoghurt a day may reduce the severity of hay fever attacks

Increase your immunity: start easting locally produced hney to ward off attacks

Try supplements: The flavanoid quercetin (inhibits histmain release) plus nettle leaf ( combats sneezing) plus antioxidant Vitamin C, plus B vitamin pantothenic acid ( reduces naseal congetstion) ( DONT FORGET TO CHECK IF YOU CAN TAKE THEM, IF YOU ARE ON ANY MEDS)

hope this may help some of you :D

I had my first summer nosebleed.. + I finally know why..

Last night I was really hot so after a whole 6 months or so I switched my fan on (too late to put air con on) and went to bed.. Slept like an angel lol.

The next morning as soon as I stood up I had a nose bleed.. Here we go again lol.. So I held a tissue with some cold water.. I know this was going to happen time and time again so I quickly went on the comp and searched ways on preventing/stopping nosebleeds.. So I thought I'd share them with you..

Nose bleeds are caused when your nose is dry or you accidently cut it when cleaning your nose. In my case fan on all night so dry nose.. throat.. everything so explains that.

To prevent dryness in the nostrils.. Apply a thin layer vaseline with a cotton bud inside your nostrils before you got to bed..

If you have a nosebleed.. get an ice cube and hold it on (with your toungue) to the roof of your mouth as long as you can..

Or..

Roll up a tissue.. brown paper (from bag but I'm not sure if it's specific or anything) or paper(?).. and cut it into a small square and roll into (eg. a cylinder (ciggeratte) shape).. and place between the upper lip and the gums inside your mouth.. and wait for a few minutes..

Apparently it works I have yet to dry it if I ever experience another nosebleed but the last tip I will find handy in school!

Also I read something about a baby having a nosebleed and someone put the baby's index finger between the middle finger and the thumb and it stopped within a few minutes? It's something to do with accupenture thing apparently. Need to look into that more!..

Hope this helps to all you nose bleeders with(out) hayfever like me! x

Mum went to the docs to get some stronger tablets.. She told the doc that I tried hers which is a 10mg one.. (mine is 5mg one) so he prescribed that one for me :D Which is doing a better job than my other one. My mums got a stronger one which should hopefully work for her because she gets it 3x worse than me!.. He also said to my mum that's the one my mum used to take is the strongest one he can give me.. yet when I read the 'label/leaflet/instructions' it says anyone over 12 and adults can take it? Don't get that how that works..

Doc also prescribed some nasal spray.. WHICH I HATE! I'm going to give it a go again after like 2 years.. if everything is cleared for the whole day then maybe I might just stick to it lol!

You have to give nasal sprays a while to get into your system. Keep taking it and after a week it should start working.

Some of my mates sneeze and have red eyes they say it's been like that for a few weeks this summer.. When I ask them if they have hayfever they are like OH no no! It's just you know.. Like it's some bad thing lol! Oh well thier loss because the stuff works :p

Thanks for the post jelly belly. It seems to be working but I still get little runny nose and my right nose (lol) is still irratiting me all the time. Especially during lessons and I am bored and then I find it hard to concentrate on my work and I can't look down or my nose is 'set off' again!

my nose has been very runny at the mo and itchy eyes very annoying especially when you have no drink to take a tablet yesterday I ended up buying a bottle of water just to take the tablet then had to carry it around London all day lol.

the drops seemed to help though and the last day or so i have been fine as its been less hot and sunny. i just hope it doesnt develop any more.
it certainly makes me realise how bad it must be for all you hayfever sufferers who get it bad, including my husband!

I've had Hayfever a few years now. My Mum has it too. I use Beconase nasal spray twice a day and put eyedrops in my eyes. Luckily my hayfever is quite mild compared to my Mum's. Dust can set off my nose too.

I've started. Runny nose then its blocked then its runny again. My throat is really sore are well. Doesn't help that there's a big field of rape seed oil growing in front of my house. It calms down when I'm inside but as soon as I go out it starts up again.

Its mainly farm land around where I live and all the farmers grow rape seed oil every year. Open a door or window and all you can smell is rape seed.

Fresh cut grass and flowering trees set me off as well.

Snap! Walking home from school today and as it's been nice weather, they've decided to cut the grass. Cue runny nose, uncontrolable eye watering and sneezing!

if you suffer from hayfever and take the normal 10mg dose, 1 tablet each day, did you know some of the supermarkets do their own brand tablets now and they are about 85p a box. very good value and just the same stuff in as the expensive ones. and if you get 4 weeks supply that would be about £3.40, a lot cheaper than a months prescription!

Abigail

I wouldn't advise buying antihistamines from supermarkets if you are on other medication. There are several antihistamines that I can't take because they interfere with my other meds quite badly. The patient information leaflet inside doesn't always contain every drug containdication, with all the drugs on the market that would be impossible.

It's best to visit your GP if you have any other allergies or are on prescription meds.

First thing in the morning, last thing at night, all during the day - is there a time when I'm not sneezing or don't have a bunged up nose - nope lol.

They're bringing the jab in soon aren't they for it?? So I heard anyway - I hope my lad is able to get it as his eyeballs keep swelling so badly that you can't actually see his iris, just a teeny pupil - you've got to see it to believe it - so he really needs help with his, more than the normal antihistamines, eyedrops etc

Aww, poor mite, hope they can give him something suitable. I am lucky that I just a a little runny nose and eyes water at times but it is not too bad really.

It's the sneezing that get's me. I sneeze every morning about 6 or 7 times anyway but with the hayfever it's double that and I'm always scratching my eyes.

My #2 son's eyeballs have swelled far too many times this season already - they swell to the point where you can't see his iris and I then have to sit trying to clear them, applying drops etc. He's that bad, he's on 3 doses a day of the 1 a day meds, at the direction of the doctors!!

I've had to take sudafed again these last few days, which has helped, but hasn't. Eyes been manic and about to have some more meds, so I can go strawberry picking with the boys.

It seems my lil bro has got it this year! :( I constantly keep moaning but I feel bad for the lil guy, must be x10 worse for him!

The meds this year don't seem to working much for me.. I have to apply the prescription eye drops 3/4 times a day (just irritation), nasal spray twice a day and my tablets once a day. None of them exc. eye drops seem to be working :(

My hayfever has been awful this week. Im snuffly and snotty, wheezy, sore eyes. My mum pulled some weeds out in our front garden and i had to go inside as sson as she pulled them i was sneezing!!

Anyone got any ideas for a almost 6 month old?? Shes sneezing and has watery, puffy eyes but everything in shops is for one year plus

Jojo

Theres nothing Debs - GP's don't like to "diagnose" hayfever allergies etc below a year old. Nathan was bad but we couldn't give him anything, at least this year when he's been really bad he can have piriton.

One thing you could do though, is wipe a small bit of vaseline under her eyes and on her nostrils (works for adults too) - it prevents the pollen from getting in, kind of catching it itms, so makes it a lot easier for them.
