I thought it was the biggest pile of twaddle, I have ever had the misfortune to watch. There was I, believing that the programme was going to portray, an accurate account of gaining entry on such a competitive course, such as medicine. However, she managed to walk in off the street, with no further education, fill in a form, sit an entrance test, and bob's your uncle, she is on ward rounds. Sadly, this is not the case. I ended up writing th following email to ITV:

As a checkout girl with no A-Levels or medical experience, your new drama 'Vital Signs' has provided me with a lifeline in escaping a future of minimum wage obscurity.

Before witnessing this televisual prophecy, I had been falsely lead to believe that you needed a degree, or at least to get on to an arduous access course in order to be even considered by a medical school. I cannotbelieve that it took until now to realise that if you decided on a whim to be a doctor that you were actually guaranteed to become one.

I have advised my five teenage children to drop out of school now, they might as well enjoy life now, be content with a menial job or even ponce of the state. All they need to do is knock on a medical school admissions department door with a sob story in ten years' time and Bob's your uncle!

It also highlights the fraudulent activities of this so-called "UCAS" organisation that I've heard about, fleecing prospective students out of £25 a pop, when they could easily bypass their ridiculous application process altogether.

From Tesco's to ward rounds in the space of a few weeks, this programme is patronising to the medical profession, mature students and people employed in supermarkets.

I imagine next week, she'll have graduated. Probably purchase her own Harley Street consultancy in the climatic final episode?

It's supposed to highlight the struggle of a working mum from a working-class background suceeding against all odds in an elitist profession - but trust me, it's a lot harder than that! Filling in an application form might be a start!

Urmm but Rhonda did have like 11 (i think) a/o (can't remember which) Levels?!

She had 8 GCSE's, oooh that's really going to get her into medicine! I don't think so!

Maybe you should look at my forum, and read the views of medical students and doctors, on the programme. http://www.medschoolguide.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=21995

yeh that is a bit stupid, i mean you need alevels to get into any uni and medical is very competive so youd need to have really good results

So it looks like you medics have been bluffing us all along. Wasting 5 years at Uni/Medical school, a year as a houseman working 120hrs a week when all you have to do is buy your qualifications of the shelf at Doctors R' US. Of course Im kidding although when you listen to our Health Secretary Ms Hewitt this could be the way forward.
Tamzin claims to be an expert because her son has cystic fibrosis and she knows the names of his antibiotics.

My wife had cancer and had to recieve radiotherapy. Maybe i should get a white coat and become a Consultant Oncologist

yeh it might which isnt good. i didnt actually see the programme, my mum recorded it though so i was thinking of watching it, but it seems that the research wasnt very well done even if the acting was good!

i agree with everything thats been said, i watched it and laughed all the way through it. The acting was good but not very realistic, it was right until she was walking round the wards with her white coat after like a day and a night in the pub.

I think tomorrow night ill watch the street.

im glad im not the only one that thought this was very unrealistic. i liked the program but it doesnt have any truth in it at allIt may have been more realistic if she had decided to become a nurse, but then again thats now a degree course too I believe. It really is a shame that there was not better research into this.

Well we have had the second episode of this totally crap programme. 1nweeks trainining and Dr Rhoda knows more than a Consultant. Hats off to Bliars education system. How can we be short of doctors and nurses when medical training is so easy.
Tamzin seems to be playing the same character she played in Redcaps, a know all suercillious b***h who 'knows' more than people with years of experience. Tamzin is a fine actress but the script is S**T the storylines crap and I for one will never watch this rubbish again. Not only is it an insult to my intelligence but it is an insult to the medical profession as a whole.

I had to watch, Thursday episode out of interest, and I am appaulled!!!!!!! It's shocking, that after only one week at medical school, she now knows more then the consultant! I could rant on, but I'm going to bite my tongue, otherwise this thread might get closed.

Fair enough. I care however, for obvious reasons! I hope they don't ever make another series of it, and if they do, make it more realistic, as I know for a fact, ITV have had many complaints to date.

Dr. Tangliss
30-04-2006, 14:42
Have a look at my forum. My heated debate. Basically saying how crap it is, that it makes a mockery out of the whole admissions system, the fact it's unbelievable, etc...

alan45
30-04-2006, 17:54
I hope they don't ever make another series of it, and if they do, make it more realistic

Its too late now!!! The show is a farce. It started off with the premise that a checkout girl could within a couple of weeks be out performing a consultant. So with that as the supposed basis to the story how can we believe any of the rest of it. ITV have scrapped better programmes than this

This without doubt has to be the worst programme on television. Nothing wrong with Tamzin she isnt a bad actor but the script is woeful. The character and her premise is an insult to anyones intelligence. Why on earth did ITV not research this idea more thoughourly. SO CRAP its funny

The crap medical drama:rolleyes: Vital Signs is set to be dropped by ITV following its disasterous ratings fall. Just over 3 million people tune it to watch this half baked medical drama startring Tamzin Outhwaite. There are two mor episodes left in the series and an ITV spokesman has confirmed it has a weak pulse and will soon pass away.
