Hi, i just thought that i would start a new thread to discuss current episodes of Doctor Who for this series.
Well i thought tonight's first episode of series 2 was great! :) I think David Tennant and Billie Piper have great on-screen chemistry and work very well together :) Glad to see that Lady Cassandra made another appearance as well :D A very good first episode to kick off series 2. 10/10 :)

It was fantastic. Absolutly fantastic. (in the words of Doctor Who :p)

The plot wasn't great, but the effects were first class. And seriously, Billie Piper deserves an award just for that one line;

"OMG i'm a CHAV!"

:rotfl: Classic...

The Doctor's;
"Two Hearts. I'm beating out a samba, Baby!"

Got some laughs from my house as well :rotfl:

Brilliant. Loved it. (i'll probably watch it again tonight...:ninja: :rotfl: )

Okay, so the plot wasn't brilliant, but it wasn't last series either. I loved it though. David Tennant is a fabulous doctor, Chris was good, but he never gripped me. David has. I also didn't like Billie Piper/Rose last year, but I am already starting to like her. All the chav comments from Casandra/Rose!, the "It's like living inside a bouncy castle" and when Cassandra was in the doctor! Great comback for Doctor Who. I feel that they could have dropped a few more hints with the Face of Boe to create a Bad Wolf type of thing. Made it a bit more of a mystery. They were also very clever with the kiss. The trailer made it seem that it was Rose that kissed the doctor, but infact it was Cassandra. Bravo on that BBC. The ending was a bit pathetic, with Cassandra accepting her death. Otherwise brilliant.

Over all I'd give it 8-9 out of 10. It really made the relationship between The Doctor and Rose clear and showed the chemistry. Role on next week! It looks brilliant, plus David uses his real accent!!!!!!!!The story will really be built up from next week I feel.

Yeah i have to agree. David Tennant is playing the part of the Doctor very well and he is way better than Christopher Eccleston in my opinion.

I am going to miss next week's episode because going to an 18th birthday party. I must not forget to tape it :)

David Tennant not only looks good but his charm, humour and all round acting have made his Dr Who ever so watchable. Even Billy Piper impressed me with some of her comical one-liners, top episode, next weeks looks ace, werewolves.

That story was strange, even for Doctor Who. They're normally kind of light hearted, but not as much as that!! Next weeks is the opposite (i think!), so you'll see the two extremes of Doctor Who.

i quite liked the episode. did not like the ending with the sort of redemption of cassandra. but liked the idea of cat people. hope next week's episode is even better!

by the way, did anyone see the 3 minute (or longer) advert for doctor who that was on just before robin hood: prince of thieves yesterday? everything looks so good!

Abi
18-04-2006, 18:54
I didn't see it, but apparently it was on BBCi all last week. I've kept an eye out for it on the adverts, because it has a clip from every episode in this series in it. But the BBC aren't using it as a normal advert i dont think, so you'll probably only catch it a couple of times (unlike the Tooth and Claw one- thats on all the time now) :(

I just seen the advert just before Eastenders and this week's episode looks really good. I like the idea of a werewolf going against the Doctor and Rose.
From the adverts i think that this week's episode will be better than the "New Earth" episode last week. I like the idea that Queen Victoria is being used in this upcoming episode as well :)

I too enjoyed the first episode of the new series of the show. In a way I think David will be an even better dr than Christopher was (not knocking his talents though - he is also a good actor. Anwho, anyone know if John Barrowman will be appearing as Captain Jack from the first series or is he just going to be in the spin-off now.

May just be me, but I liked him. On IMDB he comes up as being in the final two episodes, and apparently Russel T Davies said he would be in them, but that was all before trochwood was announced and Dancing On Ice, so John may not have been able to appear. We'll have to wait and see. He will be in Series 3 though :)

Tooth and Claw was 10 tens better then New Earth. Russel T Davis actually managed to write a half decent script for a change :cheer:

The beginning was good, really atmospheric. The ending was quite weak, and a bit too coinsidental... but it was still fab :p

This one was better than New Earth. New Earth was more of a comedy script. I like the 'we're not amused bit' and 'I'm tired of the nakedness' David Tennant is a fabulous doctor, and loved the accent and the glasses! Rose has really grown on me now. The werewolf was brilliantly done and that episode was scarier than last week. Did anyone else jump when the werewolf grabbed that man when they'd thought it had gone? I must say I am thankful Russel T Davies did not use the misltoe for a moment between Rose and Doctor, that would have wrecked the episode. One final thing:
"arise Sir Doctor of Tardis and Dame Rose of the Powell Estate!"

Just watched last night's episode on bbc3 and i agree with most of you that the "i am not amused" line was so funny and i also liked the Doctor doing the Scottish accent and Rose was trying her best to do it as well :D
Way better than last week's episode mainly because of the plot used this week, a good ending as well :)
Overall 10/10 :)

It was good the way that they didn't just bring Sarah back for hte sake of doing so. They gave her a purpose, and sort of summed everything up abut her and K9. I think they did it really well. The actual story with the monsters had a rubbish ending, but the scenes with the Doctor, Rose and Sarah-Jane made up for it IMO.

It starts in October, they've just started filming it recently. They said in a welsh newspaper interview that they're going to feed Torchwood links through all of this series, so i guess thats the first of many. I noticed one tonight, in fact. When Micky was looking into the Army records, and the screen locked- it said that Torchwood had locked him out.

I loved this eppy! I agree with you about Sarah Jane, Abi. I liked how the Doctor didn't find her on purpose, just by chance. If he had found her purposefully it would have ruined the story IMO.

Another thing, it reminded me of The Demon Headmaster for some reason. Perhaps the scary headteacher?

I agree with you 100%. That scene with them by the pool was great as Rose would say "You could almost smell the testosterone"

David Tennant proved himself to be good in this episode, though i still think Chris was better at the darker more emotional stuff. When David's doctor told Sarah that all the Time Lords had died, he just didn't have the emotion behind it, compared to Chris. I'm not saying i dont like David's doctor, because i think he's better then Chris in other ways. I just think that because Chris was so good at those type of scenes, Davids got too much to live up to, maybe.

it was clever with the mobile phone and everything, but i did feel sorry for rose when her 'dad' blanked her and just left.
ooh and the bit where the cyberman's emotion chip thing broke and it was called sally and she was going to marry a guy called gareth and the doctor had to 'let her sleep'. very moving.

That was a great episode. Loved it.

A few things annoyed me though. Last week they had a great cliffhanger, but i think this week they kind of destroyed it by turning it into something like Inspector Gadget- where you magically pull out a tool to save the day.

Also, (I read this on the internet, but noticed it later on) did anyone else notice that at the very end, when Mickey was pulling away in the van, there was a sign to the right of the van. It says (i'm 90% sure) "Welcome to Newport". Baring in mind they were meant to be in London, and Newport is in South Wales, i think they cocked up a bit!!

But overall it was great, one of the best this series.

I saw the sign Abbey - it was on the right hand side as the drove the van away. :rotfl:

Brilliant though - really enjoyed the Cybermen's return.

I quite liked tonights', thought that them being told to run through random doors was rather pointless though. I may have missed some of it, I was at my uncle's house and was in the garden when it started. I can't believe they ended it where they did , I can't wait a week to find out what happenes. I think tonights' episode may be the run up to a certain spoiler.

Tonight was such a good episode. Can't wait to see next week's episode, because they had such a good build up to it this week. Loved the way that they managed to have an action-packed start to a two parter, that didn't involve a monster from the past (like the Cybermen or the Daleks). It proved that they do have some originality, imagination and creativity in the writers, which i for one, was doubting.

Wow that episode was brilliant, the storyline was very simular to the old dr who classics.

i loved the buildd up but i hate 2 parters for the simple reason that i have to wait a whole week to find out the conclusion.

it was definately the most frightening episode of doctor who so far, and i am really desperate to see what came out of the ground at the end. loved the scene where they couldnt find the girl and she was getting sucked into the black hole, that was very well done.

couldnt help but notice the guy who played woody in casualty, and also some other people i recognise but couldnt place. the girl who died was one, and so was the captain. any thoughts?

What  They can't stop now, i can't wait till next week to see what happens  !

Loves last nights eppi, was really good, and the build up was fab aswell, although the writing man (aka the one who used to play Woody in casualty and who had red eyes and writitng all over him) was pretty scary!

I watched doctor who on bbc3 last night and it was another good episode.

This episode was quite scary, one of the scariest this series.

Nice to see Will Thorp back on our screens after his stint on Casualty, he was really freaky when he had all the chinese stuff on his head and his red eyes were especially freaky.

I didn't know it was a two part story so at the end, i was like wow! they can't leave it like this, it ended on such a dramatic note. I can't wait to see the outcome next week. :)

The Episode was the best of the new series.

Thought the end of the opening scene was a good cliff hanger, but the resolution to it after opening titles was a bit lame. I hope the resolution to this episode is better than some from other episodes.

Did anyone notice the homage/ripoffs of the Alien Films!

I loved the last two episodes. Really clever plot and great acting; especially by Billie Piper when Rose thought the Doc had died! It was so sad! I was sitting there thinking how the hell are they gonna get out of that one?!?! But they did as usual! Looking forward to next week's.

17-06-2006, 22:42
completely agree Crazy Lea, it was awful, one minute Kay has a real posh accent the next he's talking Northern. Don't get me wrong he was good but he is so much better at comedy and so was Warren it was just ever so pointless with a really bad cop out ending, and not nearly enough of the doctor. And the slab thing at the end don't get me started.

Oh and we have a contender for worst quote so far.
Tastes like chicken:lol:

That was...erm.... interesting...

Or to put it another way: ****!

It was awfull! They shouldn't have even considered making an episode around a monster made by a 9 year old boy. It totally destroyed an episode, and we only have 3 more left of this series, now!

I never thought you could have an episode, where the Doctor appears for less then 5 minutes. Appears now that you can. And its **** when you do!

I thought it was quite good actually. Peter Kay was good and i liked the woman that used to be in the bill. You would have thought that theyd have realised something was wrong though when each personm he asked to stay behind disapperaed.

I'm with Jodi on this one. Not one of the best episodes. Peter Kay was fine, though. I didn't like the main bloke though. I was just sitting waiting for the Doctor and Rose for the whole episode.

One thing I did like was the fact that ordinary people had notice the strange goings on, sometimes it seems like the doctor spends the whole time saving London/Cardiff and no one notices!

Only 3 eppis left now :(

18-06-2006, 20:08
I enjoyed it, I thought the concept was interesting and it just made a change from the usual show. I did miss the doctor and rose a bit but I thought Marc Warren carried the episode well.....and as for Peter Kay - He's hilarious! When he jumped up and started running after Elton I couldn't stop laughing!

Best lines

Rose "He looks a bit Slovein..."
Absorbaloff "I am not!......The swines!"

Doctor - "Where you from rygaflagomarus?"
Absorbaloff ".........Klum" :rotfl:

I think it was the bolton accent it just souded so funny on an alien!

I felt really let down by this episode. It was nowhere near as good as previous episodes. I think they were bold in trying something new but it just didn't work- you can't have Doctor Who without the Doctor or Rose!! I hope this episode isn't a taste of what's to come because i'm really looking forward to the finale! My little sister said it was rubbish and so did my friend Stevo- and he's a massive Who fan so that's saying something.

Watched saturday's episode and switched it on to find myself completely lost! I switched on too see Marc Warren on video cam making a video diary and i really felt like "is this really Doctor Who?!!" It was the worst episode so far this series, but watchable.

We hardly saw any screen time of the Doctor and Rose and this is what let the episode down! I thought the plot was pretty poor but watchable, but when i was watching the episode, it just didn't seem like a normal Doctor Who episode!!

Last nights episdoe was fantastic. It was absolutely fantastic. one of the best episodes of the new series. It was a couple of bits which were obvious , The first that the it wasn't the cybermen in the sphere. and that one of those two torchwood employees were gonna get killed when they went for a quicky.

We were told that the new assistant is in the final episodes. What would everyone think if Jackie turned out to be the new assistant. Or Mickie.

was reading a post on IMDB and people are saying that when rose says that this is the story of her death, that it is just that.... a story. What if she doesnt die and she goes to live in the alternate earth with Normal Jackie and AltPete

I think TAO will get worse theres been a lot of hype for her being in doctor who,I actually thought that that raj guy would get taken in my that sphere and become evil because there was a moment when he went to shake the doctors hand and he didnt I assumed that was a blow off but if you go on the doctor who website theres a big picture of TAO which makes me belve shes gonna get badder.

well now that would be a good reason for her to die but it still will be very very sad.

It would be very very sad but it would be a good way to end the series.

but that doesnt explain the line "She's not Rose Tyler. Not anymore". So tend to lean towards 2 options.

1. She will become a cyberman and try to kill the doc or jackie

or

2. She will become bad wiolf again and will destory the Cybermen and the daleks, but before she can be saved by the doc she dies and takes the world with her

after a couple of disappointing episodes, finally Dr Who got it right. A cracking episode, every bit as good as I could have hoped, humour and plenty of action, plus Jackie getting plenty of screen time and David Tennant looking as good as ever, and Tracy Ann Oberman was perfect in her role. Top class, and I was concerned when I saw it was Russell T Davies. Cant wait for next weeks.

I totally agree with you, Johnny Allen. RTD wrote some great episodes in the 1st series of the new run, but this series they're been very disappointing (Love & Monsters, New Earth, School Reunion, Tooth and Claw to name a few...). This one was actually very good. All the reviews have been saying that this episode was the "Calm before the storm", meaning that next week should be even better. I for one thought that Yvonne was a great character, and was pulled off well by TAO.

The plot was slightly predictable, you knew it was going to be the Daleks as soon as he put his hand close and felt the force field. I thought Mickeys entrance was good, the classic cheesy smile and double-thumbs up was good for younger viewers, i guess.

Next week is looking good. I have doubts as to if Rose actually dies. I think Jackie probably will, after her speak in L&A about "protecting them no matter what", and Torchwood will think its Rose, as Yvonne is the only one that knows otherwise. I dont think RTD would kill her off.

Its all looking good though!

That he is a father? Don't forget, the first ever episode of Dr Who ("An Unearthly Child"), Susan was the Doctor's grand daughter, and the only way that's posible is if the Doctor has sons and/or daughters.

well the way the doctor dropped the fact about being a father once into the conversation insinuates it might or they wouldnt bring it up.

can someone who watched the original eppisodes tell me what happened to susan?

Oh my god....what a brilliant final episode to finish the series! Absolutely superb!

I am glad Rose didn't die. She may have died in the parallel world but atleast she's alive and with her family and Mickey. The end scene was really sad though where Rose and the Doctor had to say goodbye, it definetly is the end of an era.

I thought the ending was a bit ruined with Catherine Tate, i thought the episode should have finished with the Doctor's line saying "This is the last time i will say this Rose Tyler" but oh well, a superb episode all round!

Definetly 10/10!!

I can't wait until the Christmas Special now! 178 days to wait!!

Absolutley superb! It was a sad eppisode but it was brilliant! I felt sorry for Rose at the end but I am glad they didn't kill her off. Even though she is never going to see the Doctor again, she is with her family. Loved the Dalek and Cybermen war- what a way to end the series. Wasn't too keen on the Catherine Tate bit at the end.

I thought the cyberman/dalek war was going to be a bit pathetic, and just prove that RTD has no imagination and has run out of ideas, so has to go back to the classic series. That part, i was right about, in my opinion. It was OK, but not the greatest "war" they've ever done.

I loved the way they linked the episodes they'd had previously together. The ending with them on the beach was really cute, and got rid of Rose in a humane way, rather then just chucking her out the back of the TARDIS, in a Sarah-Jane Smith style exit.

By all means, link the series together. But not by sticking a loud-mouth, rude Catherine Tate in the TARDIS with the Doctor- making him suddenly forget that he's heart-broken and has lost Rose, but just plain shocked that shes in there with him! That was just pathetic. They ended it in the beach in such a cute way, and then just go and ruin it by sticking some bride in the TARDIS!! What was the point, seriously?!

Damn you, Russel T Davies! You finally get a good episode going on, and once again you throw it down the drainpipe!

But hey, it was still good. Better then last years, cop out of a series finale, anyway! It beat that hands down, no competition!

I agree, they could have left the catherine tate bit as a tiny little clip forchildren in need/comic relief (but maybe a tad longer).

I agree completly. That bit at the end just annoyed me, because they finally seperate, and RTD goes and ruins it! They're bound to have some kind of clip at Comic Releif or whatever, so why not have that?! That would make sense. Having her appear in the TARDIS doesn't!

It was so sad when the doctor was about to say he loved rose but then didnt get to! The doctors face when he was back in the tardis just broke my heart! :crying: It was just so sad! I'll miss you Rose! OK - one thing - How did Pete know to pop up at that particular moment and grab Rose and take her back?! Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased Rose didn't "die", but I'm confused as to how he knew to do that, just at that precise time.

But brilliant episode - boy did i cry at the end (hiding my sniffs and tears so hubby wouldn't take the mick) Shame the Doc was just a hologram, so couldn't hug Rose, and when he was about to tell her he loved her :crying: and his face when he couldn't tell her.

And with TAO when she was a Cyber"wo"man when she prevented the Cybermen from entering the room to escape (must have been one strong minded woman to have retained her emotions in the "upgrade")

Great stuff - totally ignoring the final 2 mins. May give "The Runaway Bride" a miss :hmm:

Cool episode. Im male and at the end i was allmost in tears :crying:. the acting from both David and Billie was superb, i'm glad the doctor didn' t get to say i love you because it is sort of inkeeping with past ...experiences when he left other assistance.

i have been thinking about the ending.

The is no way that ALL of the cybermen were sucked into the void because some of them were created in our world and never visited the parralel earth so would not be cover with "Void Stuff"

Those people who said that they didn't like the ending with catherine tate should think before they post. The idea of an end of season shot is to keep the audience think and talking about the series whilst it off the air. And you are doing just that,

When rose and the family were in the norwigan city at the end that was called Bad Wolf Bay, Did they expect that black Dalek to turn up. Cos he wasn't sucked into the void. he just disappeared. The name of the town was norwegian for "Bad Wolf Bay"

i thought it was a fitting way to end the series. everyone acted their socks off, and there was humour (some of the dalek lines were pure class) and heartbreak (the doctor not being able to say he loved rose, made me cry:crying: ) overall, one of the best of the series, if not, the best!

Last nights eppi - 10/10. Fantastic. Loved it all and even though it was sad, there was still bits of humour added in which i really liked and which i think David tenant does really well. I liked how Rose didn't die, but i did cry it was a very sad goodbye. I think though instead of just saying 'Rose Tylr' the doctor should of maybe said 'Rose Tyler i loov' then got cut off.

The Catherine tate bit at the end did ruin it for me, it really did.

I was actually disappointed with this episode. The whole Daleks v Cyberman fan fantasy, the love story inbetween - it just didn't go. I can see where the romantic appeal comes from, but that just isn't Dr Who in my books. I was looking forward to Rose dying. Instead we got happy families at the end.

The prison ship was a good idea which implies that the Time Lords may also have survived. Having TAO as the only Cyberman willing to die for "queen and country" was just plain daft. A bit like the Ghostbusters scene from the previous episode.

Lets hope we have less Earth bound adventures and more alien adventures in Series 3. Tourchwood will also be airing soon, and for us die hard Dr Who fans how do we reconcile UNIT and Tourchwood? Surely one would know about the other and thus the Doctors affiliation with UNIT. Doesn't make sense at the moment.

Jojo

I can see where the romantic appeal comes from, but that just isn't Dr Who in my books. I agree - its understandable in a way, but Dr Who was never about a romance between the Doctor and his assistant. Maybe this is how they have decided to bring it back into the 21st century, but it didn't feel right to me.

Having TAO as the only Cyberman willing to die for "queen and country" was just plain daft. A bit like the Ghostbusters scene from the previous episode. That bit I really did not understand. When an "upgrade" to Cyberman occurs, all feelings and emotions are erased, so how did she a) be willing to die for Queen and Country b) shed a tear and c) show any emotion at all :searchme:

Maybe they wanted to show that emotions can't be wiped completely? True - could be that because she was such a strong personality anyway, that no matter what they did, some feelings and emotions would remain.

Considering not all the Cybermen went across the void though, strange how they were all sucked back into it. I thought that only those that had already crossed the void, were the only ones that would be able to be sucked back into it :searchme: Maybe I'm just analysing it too much as I did enjoy it. :D

It was fantastic. Absolutly fantastic. (in the words of Doctor Who :p)

The plot wasn't great, but the effects were first class. And seriously, Billie Piper deserves an award just for that one line;

"OMG i'm a CHAV!"

:rotfl: Classic...

The Doctor's;
"Two Hearts. I'm beating out a samba, Baby!"

Got some laughs from my house as well :rotfl:

Brilliant. Loved it. (i'll probably watch it again tonight...:ninja: :rotfl: ) yeah i totaly agree but i was quite shocked when my grandma almost fell of her chair laughing when the doctor said "so many parts..." "and unused !" because she would usually have gone "oh my gosh what a thing to put on at this time of night!"

All of them would've had to of come through the void, because seeing as thats the gap between the two worlds. So those Cybermen that came across first followed the Sphere, but still went through the void. And those Cybermen who came through as Ghosts still had to go through the void. And those, like Yvonne, who had been cybernized whilst on this Earth would be in Metal Suits that came through the Void into this world, so would be sucked back into the void.

Thing i found ironic, was the fact that you saw millions of Daleks get sucked into the void, but not once do you actually see a Cyberman get sucked into it. Considering theres meant to be hundreds of thousands of them, it doesn't make sense. True, you see a group of them get lifted off the ground by it, but not once do you see one actually go back into the void....

Strange... :D

Hmm :hmm: tonights episode was okay. As it was a Christmas episode, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt

The storyline - Great in points, I personally, thought it was also a little jeuvenile (sp?)

Catherine Tate - Very bad choice of actress. Again, probably just personal preference, but I think she overacts. And she did tonight alot.

The Doctor was fab though! And when it starts back properly looks fab!

Oh and I enjoyed the references to Rose. Quite touching, I thought.

I thought it was really good. Poor doctor, having to have Donna shouting at him and asking about Rose, when he was still near the sun, which was where he said goodbye to Rose.

Give me that money lol. Loved the parts where the Tardis was on some sort of destruction mission - the looks on those kids' faces.

I liked Catherine Tate in it - looks far better than that Martha woman did in the preview. Didn't think I'd enjoy it without Billie Piper in.

Like all christmas tv this year, bar Casualty, this was a let down, not up to its usual quality.

I for one never liked Billie Piper in the role as the doctor's assistant, but its a case of not knowing what you've got until it's gone. It clearly lost something special when Billie left, Catherine couldnt live up to the role, and I doubt Freema (sp?) will be able to in Series 3.

The whole episode just seemed to be too comic and too OTT, a bit like that episode with Peter Kay in it, Sarah Parish's character was just too unbelievable and the plot seemed too far fetched, even for a sci fi fantasy show like Dr Who, it just seemed out of place when compared to some of the great episodes that have been produced in the past 2 years.

Yes there were a few funny moments "Pockets!?" etc, but in general I felt as tough I'd wasted an hour watching drivel...

I for one hope series 3 is better than this.

So think what Russel T Davis was up against when he wrote this. Its a Christmas episode, so people want a bit of light entertainment, and nothing too heavy. They want a good plot, with some humour, but not Over the Top. And the good plot must be light, as already mentioned, because its Christmas. And lets not forget the way they ended Series 2, with a companion leaving, and a heartbroken Doctor. He would have to get a balance between the humour and light heartedness people would want, with the reality of what happened before this, to put it into context. As well as peoples willingness to see great monsters and situations.

You think you can do a better job at getting all those things in? Go on then, post it in scripts, and we'll be the judge of that! Otherwise, dont critisise something which was a damn good attempt at getting what everyone wants!

I think it was pretty good. I liked the balance of humour and reality of Rose going, and i didn't mind Catherine Tate (Come on, its Christmas, who seriously wants an Oscar winning actress coming on and boring you half to death?! Catherine Tate was a good choice for the Christmas Special, i think)

And come on, how great was David Tennant?! Love him!

And while i'm on my Soapbox, i might as well add this. Rose is gone. Live with it. So dont judge Freema Ageyman on what she's gonna be like before you've watched a goddam episode of it! Everyone hated Billie Piper as a choice before she started, and now look whose eating their words (Points to whole of nation!)

I agree with you Abs - I enjoyed the episode, although, I do admit, Catherine Tate did my head in with all her shouting - slightly too much of it imo, but never the less it was a good balance.

It was good that Rose was mentioned, but people can't judge the new assistant before they've even seen her in an episode - that isn't fair on the Freema. Thats like saying that someones script is going to be a bag of pants before even reading it!
