Countdown to Baby Cruise and 'M:i:III!'

April 10, 2006

The countdown to 'Mission: Impossible III' is on, and so is the wait for Tomkat's little kitten!

Just last week, mom-to-be KATIE HOLMES was spotted on a little shopping spree in Beverly Hills at Neiman Marcus -- but there was no word on whether she was buying blue or pink baby goodies! Holmes did look healthy and glowing as she politely smiled at photographers waiting to get some snapshots.

Last Thursday, the future Mrs. Cruise ventured out to a stationery and gift shop in West Hollywood, where she told a photographer she was "very well." When asked if any baby names had been chosen, the brown-maned beauty responded with a simple "yes."

Meanwhile, TOM CRUISE appeared on the German talk show "Wetten Dass..?" last week to promote 'Mission: Impossible III,' telling the audience he could be a dad at any time: "You have to understand it could happen at any moment now," he said.

Tom also talked to ET recently about the big screen production. "When I first started thinking of 'M:i:III,' I wanted to create a summer experience," says Tom. "I remember my summers by the movies. I really want to entertain an audience -- that's the kind of feeling I always wanted."

Armed with new cast members and "Alias" secret weapon J.J. ABRAMS (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1804476864&cf=gen) at the helm, this 'Mission' could prove to be the greatest of them all!

"I can't wait for that audience to sit on opening weekend and experience this film," says Tom.

Tom's enthusiasm on the set proved to be infectious, and while it may be old hat for returning 'Mission' member VING RHAMES (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800018957&cf=gen), "Elvis" and 'Match Point' star JONATHAN RHYS-MEYERS (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800019579&cf=gen) couldn't get over Tom's kid-in-a-candy store exuberance.

"He's still that same kid who's sitting down watching it with popcorn and ice cream," says Jonathan. "He still believes in the magic of [the movies]."

Director Abrams recognizes the fact that Tom's energy translates extremely well to the big screen, helping to create the illusion that the viewer is right by his side during the 'Mission.'

"He happens to do his own stunts, but he's a great actor," explains Abrams, "so when you see what his face looks like when he's running, when you see how he reacts to getting hit, he's the glue; he's the thing that makes the moment matter, because you feel like you are him, his performance is so good."
