Footballers wives actor Jay Rodan has been given the push by the show, following his decision not to carry out a nappy-wearing storyline with Joan Collins - according to the Mail on Sunday this week..
Joan Collins' character gossip magazine editor Eva de Wolffe has clashed with veteran wife Tanya Turner (Zoe Lucker) who attempts to steal Eva's toyboy Brazilian footballer Paulo Bardosa, played by Rodan.
The storylines disturbing twist came in last Thursday's episode when it was revealed that Eva was in fact the adoptive mother of her toyboy, and had exerted a sick sexual control over him. But the producers wanted to go a step further than that . . . .
Rodan was asked to wear nappies in one intimate scene with Joan, to hammer home the Oedipal relationship at the heart of the plot.
When he refused the writers asked him to do the same with Zoe, to make his character appear as if he could become highly excited (if you get my meaning) only for a mother figure in Eva.
He refused again, and friends say that he left when he was told he would be written out unless he complied.
A friend said: "He was signed up for 8 episodes on good pay. He was living in Los Angeles and decided to come to Britain for the role. But after four weeks he'd had enough. The ridiculous sexual games in nappies would have been massively embarassing and he would have been ridiculed by everyone he knew.
"He'd had loads of rows with people and was pretty glad to get back to LA. He's just had his second baby and is pretty happy over there."
Crew members on the set of FW say that Jay was a nightmare to deal with.
One insider said: "He acted unprofessionally and was an absolute diva. He had seen a script before he started and he knew what he was going to be doing. But then he started to kick up a fuss. It was the kind of thing that you'd expect from a big star and not some bit-part actor. If you take a part in Footballers Wives, you should know what you are letting yourself in for."
Joan did not warm to her co-star. In a diary published yesterday in the Mail on Sunday, she describes him as 'arrogant' and 'quite rude'.
A spokeswoman for the show and producer for Shed Productions said: "You'd expect Joan Collins to be the diva, not an unknown guest character."
Well Jay's obviously rubbed himself up the wrong way for that show, but I do see his point in not wanting to do the nappy scenes. It was bad enough when Eva made him nestle himself into her chest. :S Although it was shown post-watershed it was still rather unsightly, but that won't put me off continuing to watch the show. As the report said he's only in it for 4 episodes. So I guess the week after next will see him either killed off or just mysteriously disappearing off the screen (like Amber's baby did - pooof (just like that!)
