Do you notice how many young people on the square don't have a mother? Courteney (Tiffany-died when ran over), Ben (Kathy-died in car accident), Lucy, Peter, (Cindy-died while giving birth) Rebecca (adopted mum) (died in car accident), Ruby (mother house fire) Deano/Carly (I think their mum is dead). It's really tragic!
Most of their fathers have brought them up single handedly. Well Ian has had wives all over the shop, but he's always been the one looking out for his kids. Grant has brought Courteney up, and now Ben is going through the trauma of losing his mum. It seems father's are very predominant in Walford families these days. There's the relationship between Jack and Honey as well, he's brought her up since she was a baby, and they have a very close bond.
And there's Stacey whose lost her dad, and her mum is in a mental hospital, so she's practically an orphan at the moment.
It seems they are trying to rebuild families by bringing in new characters, which is a good thing because I think people in the square need as much family as they can get.
