Do you notice how many young people on the square don't have a mother? Courteney (Tiffany-died when ran over), Ben (Kathy-died in car accident), Lucy, Peter, (Cindy-died while giving birth) Rebecca (adopted mum) (died in car accident), Ruby (mother house fire) Deano/Carly (I think their mum is dead). It's really tragic!

Most of their fathers have brought them up single handedly. Well Ian has had wives all over the shop, but he's always been the one looking out for his kids. Grant has brought Courteney up, and now Ben is going through the trauma of losing his mum. It seems father's are very predominant in Walford families these days. There's the relationship between Jack and Honey as well, he's brought her up since she was a baby, and they have a very close bond.

And there's Stacey whose lost her dad, and her mum is in a mental hospital, so she's practically an orphan at the moment.

It seems they are trying to rebuild families by bringing in new characters, which is a good thing because I think people in the square need as much family as they can get.

Thats a good thing though, its always women who bring up the kids on their own. So it's good that they show something that's not shouted about in real life, that is men bringing up their own children. :D

Yes I agree, it's a good thing to show that some males can be just as good at raising a family as women are. But we know that there wouldn't be so many single dads in one street in real life. Especially with children as young as they've got. Not that many women die in their 20's/30's/.

I have to say that for a Mitchell Grant has done an exceptionally brilliant job at raising Courteney on his own. For 8 years (I think) he's been without Tiffany, and most of those years he's been in a foreign country away from his family. Really excellent! Phil could do with learning a thing or two from his brother about being a good dad.

Ian also has had a very rough time, he's raised 4 children on his own over the years. Steven since he was a baby (before he move to New Zealand), Peter, Lucy and Bobby. I don't think he'd have any trouble raising Ben if it came to it.

Yeah their mum is Shirley she's still around :p

Maybe it's because they can create more drama killing off characters. Always a crowd puller.
