View Full Version : router
for about two weeks i have been trying to set up this horrible thing just so mum can get bb on her laptop upstairs. Ive spent most of the week on the phone to technical support at telewest but they cant help me cause my phone is upstairs and the computer is downstairs.
I've checked and double checked that im setting it up ok and all the cables are in the right place. its coming up on my computer that is connected to 100% but then i cant connect to the internet.
So basically who's coming round to set it up lol
oh and before anyone asks yes i have done the power cycle about ten million times and reset the router :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
was there a CD in the box which helps to set it up on the computer?
nope the only install cd that came with it was for the pic card

is it belkin by any chance?? as they never seem to work
nope linksys but we can connect to out neighbours belkin if we sit the laptop a certain way lol
My old one was a linksys and i had nothing but trouble with it lee - now i've got the one supplied by bt and it works brilliantly, no trouble at all - the linksys one wouldn't pick up 2 m away, let alone 50...
funny thing was telewest recommened linksys cause apparently its all set up for blueyonder and now they wont help me set it up
Thats wrong of them - i remember when i set up my linksys one, you literally had to be sat next to it to get a connection....as soon as i got this new one, its been fine and ste's connection works three floors up!

mine i belkin i think and it is rubbish it worked for a bit and wont work now so my dads got to try and redo it all again, but have you got an instruction sheet as they do it step by step on it
my belkin works fine... never any problems.
Have you got it sorted now? If you're still having problems with it I could tell you what I did to set my friends' up, and that was a bit of a pain.
nah not working yet - really doing my head in any advice would be welcomed
this is a stupid question but is your moms laptop wireless enabled and have you got a card inserted in the back of your pc that will pick up wireless signals?
I found when i had a pcmcia card to enable wireless on my laptop it didn't work, but as soon as I used a wireless dongle, it worked....:searchme: no idea why, but it seemed to solve the problem for me. Now our old laptop is connected with a dongle and so is Ste's computer too.
the laptop is wireless enabled and i dont need a card in the back of the computer apparently plus theres nowhere to put it - when im setting it up it says i needs a usb flash - we've got one of them and we tried what it told us to do by taking it for one to the other and loading the data but it made no difference
Well, First you need to run the router set up wizard on the computer that is connected to the internet. Be sure that the wireless network card software is installed properly on the laptop before proceeding. You should have one light on the card when this is done. Then put the router by the computer that is connected to the internet and remove your modem cable from the the computer that has the internet connection and plug it into the port on the back of the router where it says something along the lines of "Connection To Modem." Then you need a lead that was supplied with the router which is double ended. Plug one wnd of this into port 2 where it says "Connections to Computers," port one doesn't seem to work for some reason. Then plug the other end of this cable into the port of the computer from where you took out the cable that was coming from the modem. Then plug in the AC adaptor and turn the power on at the wall. This connection is pretty self explanitory. Then skip the connection diagrams on the router setup wizard and let any set ups and checks complete. It should then work. You may need to restart both the computer and the laptop before it does so.
thanks will give it a go tomorrow and let you know how i get on
Have you got it sorted yet, Luna?
