i gonna try explain the cube one:
the cubes could face different directions depending how you look at it
e.g. the cube could have the black square at the front, light blue on the left and dark blue on the right
or you could have the black square as the top of the cube, dark blue on the left and light blue on the right

hope that atleast makes a bit of sense!
