This does not come as a surprise to me i have been a huge er fan from series 1 but the last couple of years it has lost its sparkle and there is such a lot of quality new dramas from america shown on UK tv now that it may be best to go out on a high. I have not watch the new series as i watch prison break instead. I will miss ER but to be honest the show died when Dr greene and romano left

i still think it will be sad if it finishes. its not what it used to be but still good. they just needed to recruit some bigger names into the show i think.

All Good Things must come to an end, still sad tough, was a good drama in its heyday - but the quality did get worse as time went by, shame tough

Yeah I agree, it's time for the final curtain to come down. To be honest, since all the original characters left, it's gone slightly down hill.

I'm not surprised i think Grey's Anatomy and House have taken over as the top medical dramas now. It went downhill after all the departures. The have John Stamos in the new series i thought he would be a top draw for them.

I've just been reading that ER will be continuing into its 14th Season and if the ratings carry on rising like they have been, then it may continue even further. John Stamos originally signed for 2 seasons which will take him into the 14th.

I've never been able to get into Greys Anatomy - I haven't watched ER for years though, not since Carter "left" and Morris was put in charge I think....

Recent reports have commented that next season MIGHT be the last - if it is they are planning on bringing back many of the old goos characters for a really explosive send off.

Contrary to expectations Variety reported yesterday that ER producer John Wells is hoping to start negotiations soon with NBC about giving ER one more season to tie up loose ends!

Source Kristen on E

Unless you've been in deep hibernation, you've probably heard that the WGA strike officially went into effect early today, and some of our favorite TV scribes are picketing around town this very minute.

As I shared with you on Friday, this strike has many devastating effects for pretty much everyone connected to the television industry.

But interestingly enough, this could be a good thing for one show in particular: ER. At the show's 300th-episode soiree over the weekend, ER boss John Wells told reporters he's reopening talks with NBC about the possibility of a 15th season.

This news may come as a surprise to fans, cast and crew alike, who all had presumed the series would bow out at the end of this season. In fact, when I was on set in August, Maura Tierney plainly put it: "The show is scheduled to end this season."

So, why the seemingly sudden change of heart? Well, according to well-placed sources inside the show, ER's producers and writers are now concerned the strike could prevent them from wrapping up the series' storylines in a way that is satisfying for themselves and the show's fans. I'm told that only about 13 of the 22 scripts have been completed, and if the strike drags on, the storyline could be halted in a very awkward place.

"There is a small positive [to the strike]," says one ER insider. "It could force NBC to pick us up for another year, so we can end the story properly."

The series has also been holding its own in the ratings this season, despite some stiff competition, and the fan base still seems to be going strong. So, what do you think? Does ER deserve to come back for a jaw-dropping 15th season? And come to think of it, shouldn't Scrubs be afforded the same courtesy if it's also unable to complete its final season?

I, for one, desperately want to see what John Wells and Bill Lawrence have up their sleeves for these shows' final moments.

Question: Now that the strike is over, can you tell us what is going to happen to ER? — Katie
Ausiello: According to the trades, NBC is contractually obligated to produce more episodes this season, so it'll definitely return in April. And if Warner Bros. can shave enough $$$ off the budget for next season, there's a decent chance it'll be back for a 15th (!!!) season.

ER is to return for one final season, it has been confirmed.

The long-running medical drama will bow out in February 2009 after 15 years on the air. The last season will run to 19 episodes.

"ER is one of the greatest shows of all time and we can't wait to deliver to the audience the fantastic stories the series is known for," said Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment. "We will introduce new characters to the great ensemble."

As well as new characters, producers are rumoured (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/a91492/clooney-to-return-to-er.html) to be courting former stars to return for the final episodes.
