K9 and Sarah Jane Smith are to star together in a Doctor Who spin-off, The Sun claims today.

The robotic pooch and Sarah Jane (Elizabeth Sladen), who are both set to make appearances in the show's second series, will apparently join forces for a new children's programme.

"It would have been a shame to put K9 back in his kennel, so we’ve come up with an idea for another drama," a source told the newspaper. "It’s early days but K9 and Elizabeth Sladen are inseparable characters.

“There are loads of things we can do with Doctor Who. It’s one of the most popular shows on TV and viewers can’t seem to get enough of it.”

A BBC spokeswoman said, "We are not confirming any developments at this moment."

I hated K9.

Stick to torchwood, I am really looking forward to that , and the real thing, David Tennant as Dr Who. Too many spin offs will weaken the brand.

Just for the nostalgia value I'd like to see K9

By all means, have them in the new series- i think it will be good to see how they all react to each other- but a whole series to themselves? Too far...

They already tried to do a spin off of them two- "K9 and Company" in the 1980's, but was dropped after one episode, so i think trying to do it again will just bore viewers.

We've already got Torchwood coming, so lets leave the spin-offs at that, i think.

They should give up on the idea before they get started. They'll be better off that way
