Hey
I have to choose which subjects i want to take in about 2 weeks. Does anyone have any reccomendations because I really don't know what to take.
I have to take English, Maths, 1 Science ( chemistry, physics biology), 1 out of History, Modern Studies, Geography, R.M.E and a language. I'm going to take Biology, Frecnh, R.M.E but I have to choose 3 more things which is what im unsure about.
I can choose from Art, Craft and Design, Music, Admin, Computing, An extra science, Extra P.E, Home Economics, History/Geography/Modern Studies/R.M.E as an extra, An extra lanuguage and I think that is about it. I haven't had the complete list home yet so I'm not sure if I've got them all.
I would appreciate if you had any ideas :)

Is Geography any good? I'm thinking about choosing graphic communication (perspective drawing and design) but I'm not sure.

geography's ok and i dont think its that hard but in the sylabus theres a lot of things that dont really relate to geography like where should a studium be moved to?
the only thing about graphics is that they are really picky on the exam paper and if you make a really little mistake they knock loadsa marks off.
do geography, i really enjoy it. the syllabus can be a little boring at some times but the syllabus we study means that theres quite a bit of human geography. do you know which syllabus the geography is?
only take the subjects that you like because if you take a subject you don't like you don't feel motivated to work. if possible, take ICT as well becuase that will halp you after school. Languages are always useful aswell, so take at least one!

No I don't I have never heard of it. I'm going to do French because I have being do that for the past 4 years so I might as well keep it. I would really like to do Admin thats ICT but using Microsoft Word, Power Point et.c Where as computing is learning about the actual computer and writing about it.
We did initial options at christmas time which gave us a lot flexability.
I am taking:
English lit and lang.
Maths.
Science (We have to do the compulsory core Science and then choose one of either Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Additional applied Science and something else at a later date)
RE - We have to do that.
And then my options which were History, Geography, Business and Media.
If you get on fairly well with IT I would do that because it has a relevance with an increasing number of jobs and also a language if you don't detest them like I do, and if your school does a Business studies course I would do that because it is obviously a practical thing to do, and then one subject that you really enjoy. If you know what you want to do when your older however, take the subjects that will be most useful for that.

That's what put me off of taking ICT, and also because I can't learn with the teacher that I have at the moment.

im thinking about geography aswell
Im now doing geography A level I liked it so much. Then in september im doing a degree in geography, Ive looked at the list of courses you can do with geography A levle and there is just loads. The only part of the gcse sylabus i didnt exactly like was indusrty. But you guys may be lucky and not have to do that
i did geography and am now taking it for an A level. I also took Graphics which is really good if like Designing and doing coursework because the coursework is more than the actual exam.

if your into music its a good subject i think. im year 11 now so chose my subjects last year and music, art, graphics, foodtech, spanish were my choices and i think music and graphics are the best. it depends what you think your good at and enjoy!. music involves alot of compisisions, and solo performances and you right out what you done in the compisitions. and graphics is alot of designing. were making our own board game atm. but it depends on what you know your good at!. hope you decide :p
in our geography GCSE i studied tectonics, rivers, settlements, industry and managing resources and coasts. i have enjoyed it all, especially settlements and industry.

I chose Art as one of my options and ended up regretting it as I found it quite difficult.
you have to pick out what scinece you do? wow ive never heard of that before
We have to do one Core science which is compulsory and then choose another one as we will have 10 lessons of science.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
It was parents evenning last night and the pupils go aswell. I was recommended for Credit levels (which is highest) in nearly all the subjects. I was recomended to take some subjects aswell. I have to hand in my form today so here's what I chose.
We have to take english, maths, core p.e, core r.e, lifeskills. It was all in boxes. I chose biology at credit/general level, R.M.E at standard grade for my social subject. Administration for technological subject, Graphic Comunication for my creative subject and french as my modern language because I do that already. In the last box we got to choose anything we wanted but we might have to choose something else if their isn't enough people for that extra class so I put home economics in that box. My parents were really pleased with my report and parents evening so I'm really happy about that :D

Im thinking of doing Drama, Extra ICT, Buisness Studies and maybe Media Studies!!
I have to do English, Maths, Science, ICT and Religous Studies!!
Extra ICT? We have to do cross curricular ICT, but don't have any ICT lessons. Is that extra ICT on top of one compulsory ICT course?

Extra ICT? We have to do cross curricular ICT, but don't have any ICT lessons. Is that extra ICT on top of one compulsory ICT course?
Yep I think so.
I had to hand in my form in today, as it was the deadline!! I went along with Drama, Extra ICT, Buisness Studies and Media Studies. I put Geography as a reserve!! :D

Drama wasn't an option. I got drama in my first year of secondary but the teacher was always off, so we didn't get it much. I would have chose it, if it was a choice. I go to drama club though, so I suppose i'm not missing out on that much.

yeah can you not take the exam throught your drama club

No, it's just a fun thing. The lady that runs it does teacher drama but I don't think she does the education side of it.

we didnt get to do media for gcse either. i did business studies and i liked the fact that there was no cw for it (though you might be doing a different exam board). i didnt really enjoy the lessons that much, but i think that was partly due to the teacher and partly cos i was never very good at it in lessons and the hw, although i somehow managed a A* in the exam so it wasnt a complete waste of time! loads of people i know who took it really loved it though so i think it was just cos i had a moany teacher who didnt really help us much

When I do Buisness Studies next year there's 25% or 50% coursework in it, I find that a good thing because if you do bad in the exam you still get a sort-of-good GCSE in it :)

i like cw in some subjects but others i prefer exams, i think it depends on the subject really and how you like to work in it, if that makes sense

I wish I had that option, I do completely bad in exams most of the time which is why I dread the SATs so much and also because they determine the sets that you will be in next year at my school.
I got my option confirmation today, and am happy having got all of my first choices. Anyone else got their's back yet?
our year never got confirmations... you had to wait to get your timetable in september... but everyone hated out year...
