Cameron Diaz has apparently cheated death after a bird shattered the windscreen of her chauffeur-driven car.

The bird punched a hole in Diaz's silver Range Rover as she was driven along the A3 in Ripley, Surrey at 65mph. The chauffeur was able to keep the vehicle under control despite suffering from minor cuts, before stopping at a nearby garage.

"There is no doubt that he saved Cameron's life," a motorist at the garage told the Sunday Mirror. "Other drivers would have panicked and lost control but he remained very cool.

"All you had to do was look at the damage to the windscreen to realise there had been one hell of an impact. I thought someone had thrown a brick from a bridge or something. The driver said he had been travelling at around 65mph when he saw a bird flying across from a field at the side of the road.

"They both instinctively ducked, hoping that it would miss them, but it smashed straight into the windscreen on the driver's side. Cameron apparently screamed, 'Oh my God!' and was covered in broken glass. I think they both realised that they'd had a lucky escape, largely thanks to his driving skills."

Are US windscreens different to ours then?? Cos if you get hit by a bird here, your screen shatters but stays intact, because its laminated. This is a pic of my hubbys van after a pheasant hit him on the motorway, whilst he was going 75mph

As you can see, the screen stayed in tact, so, just wondering if US screens are different to ours :searchme:

Omg, that looks pretty bad, how hard must the pheasant hit the windscreen, I gather it did not survive.

Our business is fitting windscreens and vehicle glass and they have to be laminated for safety reasons, to prevent bird strikes going straight into your car etc. Thats why I was wondering if it was different in the US.

Oh Tang, nope the pheasant didnt survive lol
