well wotever happens it wont keep me from eating my kfc:) haha:rotfl: Nor me - I love my bargain bucket too much!!

Anyway, I think it would be more difficult for a massive outbreak over here, like there has been in Turkey etc, as we don't tend to allow our children to play with dead chickens that could be infected etc. But I know there is a register of chickens being done too, so hopefully it will all help :searchme:

NOT SURE U GUYS KNOW THIS BUT MY HUSBAND IS WORKING WITH TH DEPARTMENT OF ARGICULTURE HERE IN HOLLAND, BACK WHEN THE FIRST BIRD FLU HIT THE BIRDS,, HE WAS IN CHARGE OF MAKING SURE THE BIRDS WERE DESTROYED .. HE SAID THEY HAVE ALREADY FOUND SEVERAL DEAD SWANS AND GEESE IN hOLLAND.. THE DEATH WAS NOT FLU RELATED,, IF U HAVE A NEIGHBOR WITH CHICKEN OR GEESE IN THEIR BACK YARDS,, MAKE SURE UR KIDS STAY AWAY FROM THEM ( THE LIVE ONES ARE CARRIERS TOO REMEMBER JUST LIKE HUMANS )
SO TAKE CARE EVERY ONE

I'm not botherd at the minute, becaues i dont think our society is the type that would mean a huge outbreak. As others have said, we dont exactly play with chickens all day, and its only a small minority that work closely with birds in this country. Of course it would be awfull if those people did die from it, but as it hasn't developed into a strand that can be passed from human to human, i dont think we're at much of a risk, so i dont think people should get really bothered about it.

One of my mates works at a doctors surgery, and they're getting at least 10 people a day ask for a jab against it. It hasn't even reached here properly, and people are going OTT.

And yes, there was a case of bird flu in Britain, at a quaranteen centre, in a parrot, as you said. But it wasn't the deadly strain that has been affecting other countries so much, so even that doesn't put us at much of a risk.

yes I am,
But there is nothing thay we can do to stop it so its not worth holting our lives for.

Tori
19-02-2006, 15:42
not really- we don't really play with chickens. i'd only be worried if it was here and humans had it and it could be passes from human to human

I live in Ireland so I am not worried about it reaching england. After the outbreak of foot and mouth, Ireland had it well contained and we only had 1 suspected case on the boarder of northern Ireland

In Holland effective today any chickens or fowl in gardens or in farm yards must be put INSIDE ( ie a coop or whatever) We have a pair of 18 yr old domestic geese in our back yard, the only way they can "bust" us with the water fowl in our back yard is for some one to blow the whistle on us, the first is a verbal warning, the 2nd is a written caution, the 3rd is 100 euros a day.. hubby says hes taking his chances, and if it gets to the 3rd he will just take his pet geese to a water fowl enclosure and release them to the wild, not sure how well they will do since they are throughly domesticated,, sighhhhhhhh.....People in Holland went into sheer panic when they found a few dead swans floating near the shore, but after testing those birds had died of "natural causes" ... gotta love the media that can cause a mass panic !!!

I am worried, but my mother said that it is very unlikely that people will get it now

Here is a thought though - when we had foot and mouth, the french refused to come over and carry on with the then 5 nations, hence how Italy came to play in the tournament. France wouldn't allow their players to travel over here, nor over there.

So seeing as they have had a confirmed bird flu case in a wild duck, should we now be saying to them, sorry guys, whats good for one is as good for the other, we aren't coming over to play any more 6 nations games there, and would prefer you not to come here, as we are not yet fully aware of how this is spread :searchme: Didn't know what everyone else thought about this, thats all.

Plus, I think I heard a very good suggestion on the radio yesterday, which was a professor saying that people with large flocks should feed them inside, under cover rather than outside, as this way migrating birds that may be carrying the virus, wouldn't see the feed on the ground, and mix with our birds, thereby infecting them - its an idea :searchme:

i always wondered how Italy came to Join. I think as they have got a confirmed case we should be trying to help them not refuseing to go near them. I think everyone needs to be careful.

This is exactly what the Department of Arigculture is suggesting in Holland, pretty hard to do when u have a huge chicken farm and gather them all up and feed them inside,, not an easy task,, but small flocks may be ok,, I know the zoos had to vaccinate all their birds ( can u imagine the chore capturing each one ??) to make sure they didn't come down with it.. whatever happens I hope the thing is nipped in the bud:searchme:

I reckon treat them, like they treated us over the foot and mouth - sorry, but they refused our beef and wouldn't help us get out of our situation and then with all the arguing about the eu funding side of things - if France helped us in the past, I would have no problem with it, but they haven't. Seeing so many farmers in my area lose their livelihoods because of the foot and mouth, and seeing so many countries still refuse to buy our beef after so long, and with the daftness of the French not wanting to send their players to a country as if we'd had a mass lepracy outbreak (or another highly contagious disease), sorry - but just the way i feel about it.
