Airing Thursday, 23rd February 2006 at 14:05 on BBC One
Sarah arrives to work sullen, admitting that she is cheesed off with the thought of another birthday approaching, and any celebrations being taken over by her family. Greg offers to help, determined to lift Sarah's spirits, and rallies Jimmi's help in the process.
Peter's depression reaches an all time low, and he lashes out at their son, Josh. Jenny Kendrick leaves the family home with the children, asking him to get professional help, telling him that she will be at her Mother's for a while.
Jimmi and Sarah discuss her birthday, but when Jimmi takes the mickey out of Sarah still living at her parents, Sarah retaliates strongly. Jimmi is taken back to be reminded that he lived at home, then moved in with Amanda, and only now is living independently, so he is hardly a free spirit. Sarah feels bad for her harsh words.
Faith offloads to Julia about her problems with Rob's sullen teenage Son, Lex, again wishing that Rob came with less baggage. Julia is supportive but reminds Faith that Lex probably sees Faith as a potential threat and this is normal adolescent behaviour.
Following Jenny Kendrick's call, Mac is concerned when Peter Kendrick does not return his phone calls, but Julia reminds him that Peter does have his number.
Peter sits alone repeatedly listening to Mac’s voice message, unable to respond and deal with his depression.
Meanwhile, Alistair McLeod is an elderly gent living alone, who jogs daily and is an ex military man. His neighbour Deirdre Wells pesters Alistair, but she clearly cares, worried that he is over doing the exercise. But it is Alistair who anonymously calls for a Doctor to visit when Deirdre falls over, and then subsequently blanks her when she turns up with a thoughtful meal on his doorstep.
When Alistair collapses with a heart attack, it is Deirdre who rushes to his bed-side, but he will not see her. Elizabeth intervenes and persuades Alistair to see Deirdre when we learn that they are husband and wife, separated for years. Elizabeth realises that Alistair only wants Deirdre back now that he needs someone, and their reconciliation sickens her and she pities Deirdre.
