Definatly not, I saw on GMTV a man who was struggling terribly to pay his energy bills and had to start taking money from his life saving :( My gas and electric are both supplied by british gas,so I am going to have to pay 25% increase on both,I too will be struggling as I become a widow in November, and now unless you have children under 16,you only get widows allowance for 52 weeks. A increase we all expect but that is a large increase that will harm alot of people

They said it was best to switch to a different one, but I don't think this will really help. The same man switched but he still struggled.

I definitely think they are unfair, its not fair on people to have to pay so much for energy. I think they need to be cheaper.

Wage inflation has not kept up, so the recent CPI figures are a complete lie.

Imagine a mortgae, heating bills, council tax, debt - all I can say is, get ready for doom and gloom

For an average person how much does the money come up to in a week paying all the bills?

they are definitely not fair. we are with british gas for gas and elecricity and we are now moving to a cheaper one. british gas rely on people staying with them and not bothering to move so find a cheaper supplier and change! we did it on the internet and it was really easy.

No they definitely aren't fair. We moved away from British Gas and went to another company for combined supply, our last quarter bill was nearly £300!!!! Needless to say that now the 12 months is up, I am on Which's website, switching again.

Part of the problem is how much we consume. My mum who is a pensioner and on one of these fixed tarriffs for pensioners (i.e. she can use how much she wants and still pays the same fixed amount per month ) will still be frugal with the gas and central heating.

One of my friends decided he was going to limit the amount he spent on gas and electriciy. So he went and bought a stove and now goes and collects his wood from the local builders/forest and stores it.

energywatch say that we should review our suppliers every year to find a better deal so you are probably doing the right thing. we usually swap our mortgage round every few years too.

No i don't think the energy prices are fair because not everyone can afford it.my mum gets the meter cards but you don't really get much out of it to heat the house it's costing £140 a month somtimes more

It depends what you use and how you use it. It could be far worse and they are asking to switch to other energy supplies as the consumition of energy is far out weighing the supply. It will run out.

By making it this expensive, it force people to a) use less or b) find alternative. so yes it is fair

i was so annoyed yesterday when we got a survey through the door from british gas. we were supposed to fill it in and they would tell us how to best reduce our gas usage! they take masses more money off us then want to show us how to use less!
