i heard on gmtv this morning that they recon 600,000 people will give up has a result to this ban
It didn't make me kick the habit when we got banned in Ireland. At nightclubs you now have the best fun if you smoke cause you have to go outside and you meet loads more people.
It has to be your own choice to kick the habit, not forced upon you. I quit when I wanted to 18 months ago, not during the 10 years my hubby was asking me to, because it was my choice.
When I went to New York you were unable to smoke in most places, but people still smoked on the streets.

i dont think this will make smokers quit !! i thinkthe places where you smoke like resteraunts and cafe's andaround children should be limited as others shouldn't have to inhale your smoke. but i agree with ems too, they'll quit when they want to quit and good on you ems for giving up :cheer:

NO it won't people will continually smoke, my mates smoke and no ban will stop them. Its the same with drinking if that was banned I would still continue.
People will still smoke,it is personal choice and banning it in clubs etc, will make no differance. The only thing it will be a nightmare for people like me that work in clubs,as it is going to be a nightmare keeping track of the ins and outs of people going outside to smoke, as at the moment most clubs have a no re adimission policy.

Over here they either stamp your hand or they give you a ticket with the clubs name on it so you can't get back in without either. Oh the stamp is ultraviolet to avoid cheating

[B]Making people smoke outside is going to be a nightmare in clubs, I know it works ok in other countries but I'm dreading it.
I currently smoke and yes I do want to give up but I don't understand why clubs/pubs etc can't just have separate areas or a seperate room.
If the government hate smoking that bad then why do they make fags illegal? its all down to money & the tax they get from fags

The ban won't stop people, but probably a lot of people now will stop smoking.

i think that if people want to smoke they will and a ban wont stop people from doing this.
Smokers will find another way of smoking. I'm glad though, I cannot stand smoking. Because of my asthama, it's hell going into a room where someone is smoking.

I used to smoke, but personally, I can't stand it in a pub where it's really smoky. I am quite glad they are introducing a blanket ban, as our friends run a pub that serves food, and they were worried about making the choice between food and smokers. To be honest, I can't see it having a negative effect on the pub/clu/catering trade in the long run (maybe it will initially) but people won't stop going out just becuase they can't smoke.
Also, to all the smokers, think of the money you'll save, as you won't be able to chain smoke on a night out! I gave up in 1990, when you could get 20 fags for less than 2 quid. I don't know how anyone can afford to smoke nowadays.
As far as the taxation argument goes, yes, the govt do get huge revenues from cigarettes, but I would say a huge proportion of that goes back into the NHS to treat people with smoking related illnesses and diseases, of which there are many. Smokers put a huge strain on the health service.
Apparently, the amount that smokers spend on cigarretes a year will add up to a 2 week holiday in Benidorm
yes i think it will - im so glad that england now has the same law as scotland - it would have caused outrage if it was different
