'Ashes To Ashes'
Airing Thursday, 9th February 2006 at 14:05 on BBC One
Faith does not answer her phone when Rob Keavey calls, annoyed after she saw him with an unknown woman when he cancelled the date earlier. Sarah is unaware of this, just knowing that Faith is in a bad mood for some reason.
Julia is livid that Mac has not yet decided whether to mentor a new Dr yet. Julia has to let the scheme know today.
When Rob phones the Mill later, Faith makes it clear to Sarah that she does not want to speak to him. Sarah is intrigued, but Faith is embarrassed and tells her to keep out of her business and storms off. When Rob phones again, Sarah tells him Faith does not want to speak to him, but suggests that he drops by to coincide with Faith’s lunch break.
On arrival Rob is shown unannounced to Faith’s room by Sarah. Faith tells Rob why she is upset; Rob cancelled on her and she then saw him with another woman. Faith learns that Rob has two children; the eldest daughter was who he saw at the last minute the other evening. Rob and Faith go out for a date.
Mac tells Julia that he will mentor a new Dr, but is angry that Julia has all ready accepted on his behalf, saying that Julia knew Mac would agree sooner or later. Mac arranges to meet his student, Peter Kendrick, tomorrow, and is actually pleased about the opportunity. Peter Kendrick bursts into tears after the call, we realise that he is a new Dr in need of guidance, and lots of help.
Meanwhile, Marie Crossly, who has asthma, was part of pop group with her sisters, Wilma and Yvonne, in the 70’s. Marie and Wilma attend Yvonne's funeral, which Mac was invited to but could not attend. Marie and Wilma argue about clearing Yvonne’s house and their shared memorabilia. Wilma is bitter about Marie’s decisions in the past that kept their group apart. Marie fakes an asthma attack to stop Wilma disposing of all of Yvonne’s items, including Yvonne’ ashes.
Wilma is waiting for a bone marrow biopsy, which comes back confirming leukaemia.
The grieving process is actually hard to deal with for both of them. Mac suggests that Wilma and Marie need each other now that Wilma has leukaemia, and should see a specialist immediately. The group has been offered remixes of their music for years, now they will accept the honour and opportunity.

Julia knows all too well that Mac is looking forward to meeting Dr Kendrick through the Mentor scheme later today. They meet at Dr Kendrick's Sutton Vale Surgery. The task ahead is all too evident to Mac immediately. The Surgery functions, just about, and Dr Kendrick is clearly at breaking point. Mac realises how the Mill relies on Julia's skills as a Practice Manager. Mac thanks Julia.
Julia begs Faith for a cholesterol test check up early. Faith is reluctant, but Julia persists, despite Faith's warning that within such a short time (one month), there will be little change. The results prove this, which disheartens Julia after her efforts.
Whilst doing the test Julia asks Julia about her romance with Rob; Faith admits to Julia that Rob did not tell her about his teenage kids, and although the romance is going well, Faith feels that kids make relationships complicated.
Sarah is surprised, and puts her foot in it immediately, when Elizabeth arrives back at the Mill after her time off. Elizabeth has returned to work unannounced, after spending an emotional period with her Mother, but Sarah is unaware of this. Elizabeth is curt and demeaning to a shocked Sarah; leaving her wondering why she bothers to try and be friendly.
Meanwhile, Betty Allen cares for her elderly Father Cedric since her Mother's death, to the anger of husband David, who feels that she is taken for granted. Betty asks Jimmi for something to help her sleep. Jimmi visits Cedric, and uncovers that Cedric physically abuses his daughter.
David has no idea of the abuse, and does not understand Betty's need to care for her Father. Betty is helped by not having to hide her abuse, and tells David that he needs to support her and not verbally abuse her himself. With respite care and the support of David, Betty wants to continue to care for Cedric, with her power and determination resolved.
