Why should the taxpayer pay for your childcare??? I believe it should be more accessible for parents and have more places.

The family. I can understand that its expensive, and that not everyone can give up work to be a full time mum, but if you want someone to look after your child, then you should pay. No ones making you. you oculd always mke other arrangements. I just dont think its fair that money that should be spent on other areas of this country, is spent on something, that isn't a nessesity, if that makes sense.

i think there should be more places and that childcare should be a cheper. although what really annoys me is that they really really want to get mums back at work instead of at home all the time yet nurser places take up most of your wages, they should do something about that

Family should definately pay, otherwise it penalises those who dont have children.

Its bad enough our taxes go those who dont work!

I am a single parent before i had marley I worked constantly since I left school. I now work part-time although I do get tax credit. I think it is up to the families to support and provide for children. i could work full-time if I wished but I like to make time to help marley with her homework and spend quality time with her

I completely agree as parents who make the choice to go back to work should have to pay to insure their child is properly cared for but should not be ripped off to the point where working is not worth their while in a society like todays where people are being or should be encouraged to go back to work and not live off benefits I.E, Income Support they should be given an incentive to do so as anyone who would be better off not working will take this option!

before i had con i was a nursery nurse and was going to go bact to work as really didnt think i could afford to give up, but after working out the hours i wanted to do fitting in around daves then job as a evening security guard i worked out i would earn about £20 after tax and NI and paying childcare, hardly worth working so i became a stay at home mum. connor starts school in September so ill be job hunting as soon as he becomes full time, no way will i pay the nursery fees and i wouldnt if i have any others.

Debs, I am with you on that one. There's no way I could afford to work, and pay for my two children to go to nursery full time. When I worked out all the outgoings and income, it appeared that I infact would be £-50 in debt each month.

I must admit, I am finding it hard going to university full-time and contributing towards fees, which is no way near the full amount. I really don't know how people do it, unless they are on fantastic money.

As for the cost of childcare, it's just too much. Something needs to be done about it, and the government need to address this problem, rather then using tax credits to try and deal with the issues. Which might I add is a stupid system, as it appears lots of families have been overpaid, and now the government are asking for thousands of pounds back, which low income families simply can't afford. What annoys me most is that, if the goverment make an error, they expect you to pay back any oustanding money asap. However, if it's them that owe you the money, it takes weeks to get any of it back.

People on social welfare?? if they were on welfare then they should need childcare. There should be a sliding scale or at least cheaper childcare. People should pay the bulk of it

To be fair, regardless of whether some receives tax credits, they do still pay the bulk of it.

Oh and to add to it, tax payers pay for my children to go to nursery, as it is paid by my LEA. However, I am still expected to contribute, which is fair. But as my husband works and pays tax himself, I don't feel guilty in the slightest, especially as I know once I am qualified, I will be contributing to others in my situation, through the tax I am deducted out of my hard earned wage.
