ITV1 Network Wednesday 15 February 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
When seven-year-old Amy Tennant is reported missing to PCs Reg Hollis and Honey Harman, a full scale search is initiated. Acting Sergeant Yvonne Hemmingway helps to organise the search asking all officers to scour the neighbourhood. As DI Neil Manson continues to struggle with his childcare situation, DS Sam Nixon takes control of CID and asks DC Terry Perkins and DS Ramani De Costa to check out the whereabouts of all local sex offenders and paedophiles.
DC Suzie Sim seizes the chance to enhance her CV and act as family liaison officer to Amy’s fraught parents, James and step-mum, Ruth. After much persuasion, Suzie is intrigued when a reluctant James finally gives her five minutes of his time for questioning.
As night falls, Terry and Ramani visit the last name on their list, David Leyton who hasn’t kept his curfew. When Amy’s hat is found near his house, he becomes number one suspect. However, Leyton’s alibi is soon corroborated and Terry and Ramani report back to confirm all known local sex offenders are cleared.
The following morning, James and Ruth agree to do a press conference and Suzie introduces the terrified looking parents to Met press officer, Mia Perry. But as James gives an emotional plea to the press, Sam informs Neil that he left work half an hour earlier than stated and therefore his actions are unaccounted for at that time – could he be responsible for his daughters’ disappearance?
Meanwhile, DS Phil Hunter struggles with the fact his relationship with wife Cindy is over. Will he fight to keep her in his life?
THE BILL is a talkbackTHAMES production and a direct commission by ITV. This episode was written by Chris Ould, directed by David Holroyd and produced by Lachlan MacKinnon.
