Kemp rules out 'EastEnders' return

Martin Kemp has assured fans that his EastEnders character will never rise from the dead.

The actor doesn't want Steve Owen to ever make a shock return to the Square in the style of Dirty Den Watts.

"You can't come back after dying in a car explosion," he told the Daily Record.

"I couldn't go back like that, although I understand why they did it with Den. When I started in EastEnders in 1998 I told myself I'd do three years, which is the optimum amount of time to spend on these shows and still be able to walk away with your dignity intact as far as I'm concerned.

"I loved being in EastEnders, it was one of the best jobs I ever did. But I think I stayed a bit too long."

No wonder he ruled it out. I can't decide what would be the most barbaric, Den returning for a second time or that? I did like the character though.

I liked the charector myself,i thought his comments were slightly rude,implying that soap stars lose their dgnity,personally i'd say a return from the dead is more dignified than the come down of siiting on a 3 peice suite for dfs

There used to be loads of good storylines when steve, mel, lisa and the di marcos were in eastenders. But they cant bring evryone back from the dead. I understand bring den back as it made way for the whole shannis storyline. But im suprised he needed to confirm it. You cant come back from the dead when your car has blown up!!

Steve will always be a fav of mine as will the actor Martin Kemp but Im glad to hear he won't return I mean come on it would never work, mind you could you imagine Phil Mitchell's face if he did return and walked into the vic. But I think it's sensible he wont be returning otherwise it would just get daft.

i think martin kemp has a point bringing another bad guy back from the dead would be really boring it would let the viewers think they had run out of storylines

when i first read the title i thought he can not come back as he is dead... but than they could make it so he was not in the car- would not mind having him back- but he can not be another character as it will take so getting used to

It's SCS not DFS i just wanted to clear that up (lol), not that I'm trying to be rude or anything but Martin Kemp was one of my favourite actors on the show.
