Yes, but then I don't travel by train often, and when I do I am never alone. I might have voted differnetly if I travelled alone at night for instance.

I feel safe as there are so many cameras watching customers movements these days, like any thing in life, you just make sure that when you are alone, you keep your wits about you. I don't feel safe on night buses however.

i voted no. i dont use them very often and if i do it is in the day. but i would not feel happy using the stations or trains in the evening on my own.

Apparent they spend £87 MILLION PER WEEK (source BBC) on the stations. I want to know where casue I can't see no improvement. Probably spent on hiring more middle managers.

On Crimewatch.. once in a while they say THE CAMERAS WERE NOT WORKING THAT DAY,, so I don't know if cameras are actually the answer to the customers saftey, and besides after the "deed" is done there isn't much one can do.. cos those cameras are not always CLEAR...

yes i do- apart from stockport station and birmingham new street, i've felt safe in all the railway stations- manchester piccadilly is made of glass so its light and airy and others are in the open air so it feels safer for me. i don;t like stockport becuase the underpass to the platforms is covered in and dark and i don;t like that and birmingham new street was all under cover and i didn't feel safe. in essence- i like places that are more open because they make me feel safer. i did my work experience at network rail and at manchester piccadilly station there is 360 degree vision from the cameras so i always know i'm safe there because of this.

i havent been to many stations, only about 3 and both have been really small so i feel safe at them but if i went to lsomewhere bigger like london then i dont think id feel that safe. the trains themselves i dont feel too safe on though.

i have to say that i feel safe on short distances but the time i went to birmingham and was coming back and the train was nearly empty i didn't feel safe, even though my family were with me

Stockport Station is really dark i dont like that. I had to walk round it to the bus station at night and it well freaked me out, and Birminghan New Street is just too big. I dont like Wolverhampton either. The larger ones are good though they make me feel safe apart from platform 13 at manchester Picadilly thats the one outside and its always cold and not very welcoming.

I agree about platforms 13 and 14 at piccadilly- it can be the heat of summer and its never welcoming and somehow its always cold!!

No. Where i live the stations are really small and are never attended. And normally tend to be unwell lit. Id feel happier if all of thi was fixed.

I dont exactly feel safe on the train, because i'm on the London underground system, so i always feel a bit...nervous, in case anything happens. I still go on trains though, i just keep my eyes open, and stay with a group of friends. I think about it this way, if you think about anything, you'll realise the risks doing it would involve, so you would end up not doing anything!

I went on the Newcastle Metro when i was visiting family last year. Seriously, its so much better then the underground. Its not so old feeling, so you feel more secure. Thats my opinion at least!!

unbelievably the other year stgockport station was done up to make it feel more secure etc- in my opinion although the front is nice, its worse inside. i agree about the underground Abi- it doesn't feel as secure and i think if i went to london now i would be scared.

I'd probably feel safe using the train in the day but I would never use it at night unless there were lots of people there. I hate the thought of being in a train carriage with a couple of people by myself.
Never travel alone at night even if it is crowded.

The stations in the outer zones are definately not safe at night. They need to work on making the underground less depressing!

what i saw when i was there, all stations were in that off white colour and the lighting wasn't that good. it is very depressing

i would always choose a train rather than a bus if i was travelling home at night i dont know why.
