I had fixed ones one the top row and my eldest is going to need them on his too.

I am glad that I had mine, as I had an eye tooth that was growing out of the top of my gum, and now they are all in line with each other :D

Ste has got to have braces because our old dentist messed up and decided to remove 8 molars all in one go for him. This has meant that there isn't enough room for them to grow back into, as there aren't any teeth there to use to buffer against. How angry am I about that!!! Though he also needs some reconstructive work eventually on his front teeth as he knocked half of both front ones off, and now has them temporarily capped till he's 16. He has his first appointment with the orthodontist next tuesday though, so we shall get an idea of what is going to happen then...

what kind of brace did you have to get rid?

I had a headgear one for night wear initially to move my teeth apart slightly and then the fixed "train tracks" on the top, to bring it down and in line with the others. Then had a plastic shield type thingy for nightwear to support them till the gums hardened again

how old were you when that was goin on? were you paranoid about having train tracks etc? i want to get mine all straight etc but i think id be paranoid and feel 'ugly' with braces on.no offence meant to anyone who wears braces.

I think is worse when you are younger than older.

i had one across the top, not across all the teeth just the eye teeth to pull them down.
my daughter is having some teeth out in a few weeks to make room in her mouth then possibly a bottom brace in about 6months

My sister is 50 she has braces on top and bottom, dentist said approximately 2 years before they come off..alot of older people are getting braces cos back then they were more concerned about their childerns teeth than their own, now with an empty nest and more money around they are getting their teeth corrected... i think braces stay on depending on what shape the teeth are in before they were put on.. some are just in for a short time, others longer,,Good luck :)

every other child in my daughters school has them and in my friends childs junior school some already have braces and some have had some teeth out ready for braces in the next couple of years. it doesnt have the stigma is used to have as so many have them anyway. also remember if you have braces you will have lovely straight teeth and not wonky ones when older!

i havent been told how long i have to have mine on for :(

thats cos the teeth dont always move how they expect them to so they dont want to say you only need to where them for a year then find out it will need to be longer!

exactly, if i had to wear braces i would, id rather have nice teeth for the rest of my life and have braces for a few years than have wonky teeth just cos i was too vain to have braces!
