I'm sure I heard a while ago that Ian Lavender who plays Derek was leaving the show. I heard he had been axed. But he featured a lot in Tuesday nights episode, I thought he was being phased out. Is this due to the new Executive Producer. Is he leaving anytime soon? Or have the decided to keep him in.
I do like his character, he doesn't have a huge part to play, the one storyline he did have was forgotten instantly, which was a shame (admitting he had children and an ex wife, despite being gay). However I think he plays a significant part in the Fowler family, although he's not related. Pauline & Derek have quite a sweet relationship, he's also a bit of a father figure to Martin. I feel the writers should make better use of him, he should be involved in the Rebecca storyline. It would be nice for him to be on Sonia and Martin's side as well as Jim and Dot (Pauline has Ian).
